So. Things happened pretty quickly after the post I made yesterday. After getting him home from canceled surgery, his overall health and behavior declined (and had been worrying in the days leading up to the surgery). Not wanting him to linger when he clearly wasn't himself and would only continue to fade, we spent one more night with him and then said goodbye today.

The surgeon meant to do Pretty Boy's amputation (who is exceedingly experienced and qualified, we were lucky to get her), did the final check before the procedure and determined that the cancer was both aggressive and had spread from his leg too far into his abdomen. At this point, she could take the leg and the cancer would come back in two weeks or less. We've been given a prognosis of one month, two maximum, and signs to look for when it's time.

His ultrasound came back with no internal tumors, which makes him a good candidate for amputation. We're waiting on the last of results to come back so they can have all the info they need before surgery, which should happen next week but definitely by the week after.
This is the better news we could receive, and we're doing our best to process it all. I'm taking an extra week of vacation to handle everything, but I'll be poking my head out to make a fundraising video for the surgery on...
