Some extra family health issues have cropped up that, frankly, have left me in a pretty rough mental space for the last 8 or 9 days now. As such, as much as I hate missing deadlines, I have to delay the next monthly patron sketch for August.
I hate missing these. I've only missed two (I think) in the past, one due to vacation, the other due to issues much like the current ones I'm facing. The circumstances were unforeseen, and in the last few days have hit criti...

The 'lonely gnome' returns, this time with a companion traveler, the pair having wandered from the road up a path to a nearby farm, hoping to find at least a safe fenced in area to sleep as a storm approaches.
The gnome reads notches and crude runes carved into the gatepost, left by other travelers to indicate whether this farmstead is safe to stay at, or if they're the kind to start firing crossbows at anything or anyone wandering onto their property at night.
Farmers don't tend ...

The great halls and churches held records of Vicorria's grandest achievements, from the incense soaked heralds of the Bannered Conquest, to the Wax halls of the arcane ley-lines that presaged the aberration-laced time of madness.
Held within the black slabbed walls that were foretold to stand for generations, the ancient grew more powerful, drew more to them until they stood upon a precipice of godhood.
Those walls did indeed stand for generations.
But the generations themse...

A preview sketch of the next painting on schedule.
I'll be a little quiet for the next little while (will still post, but might not be doing a lot of social media/etc). A family medical thing has come up, and there's some scrambling.

I was kindly allowed to share this image with folks here on Patreon by July's sketch recipient, and had a lot of fun just drawing a wolf again. Though I'm thinking of not calling these 'sketches' anymore when I realize that they're finished inks.
I was given much free reign with this one, outside of a setting and who was featured. I imagined this in the hotsprings in the Eastern Aegencald, further to its south where winters can be pretty cold, but where packs of various arct...

A map of a place called 'Steipel Cen Cargast' off of the western shores of Valhaadrune, near a river-spanning town called Crowsbury. I know maps aren't everyone's bag, but I figured I'd include them here for those interested since I do these for a game I'm running anyway.

I was given kind permission by July's sketch-patron to post the roughs of the sketch I'm currently working on. The first was more a rough idea that gave way to the second one, which will be inked and finalized.
I'm always quite happy to draw wolves in onsen-settings. Especially if it also allows me to draw pine-trees (because what obsessive doesn't love inking lots of little needles :D ).

Patreon has a new 'multiple images' thing now that I'm trying out. If it looks weird or crazy I'll go back to the old format.
Image was done as a warmup sketch this afternoon. The world feels pretty big when you are a gnome, first level, and a wizard alone on the road.
..And you don't have any shoes.

I wanted to post a heads up to patrons that I'll be slightly slow for the next couple of days, and that painting work will have to stop for some time. I just had my work-laptop have a pretty big failure, which means its likely going to have to do some travelling to whatever facility they send these things to get hardware replaced.
Its outside of warranty, which is a downer, and is going to cost a bit but I'm lucky enough to have an old backup desktop that I can use. I'll be ...

"No. You may not eat the thing you found behind the house."

Just a process post for now, the light-blocking/shading worked out fairly well I think. I like the whole cell-shaded animation feel it has, still, so I figured I'd post the process image before I get down to the long painting process.
I'm still writing things as well, while I haven't done any full pages of the comic I'm tempted to post the odd thumbnail of a page here and there. However it might mean things get 'spoiled' for the full page posting, so it might depend on the p...

A quick update to share the flat colour of the painting I'm working on. I don't know why, but I liked it enough to share. Maybe it just reminds me a little of the 'Over the Garden Wall' show in terms of palette.
Should have another sketch (This time with wolves) to share in the next few as well. Finally starting to see a bit of creativity hit my psyche again.
I did want to remind folks that I send out sketch notices for the $10 tier via the e-mail, and I only hav...

Perhaps a bit repetitive, but this time around the cleaned up inks before I start putting in colour.
I got rid of the railing on the stairs as I found it more distracting than anything.

The last doodle that I posted wasn't supposed to turn into a full picture, but there was something about Cinders' smile that made me want to flesh it out more. She seemed happy, so the least I could do is let her finish her conversation with her lil' goat friend.
I'll be working on painting this one next. I kept bouncing between what I wanted to finish as a painting and have been indecisive to the point where I just wasn't having any fun with the last one I was trying.  ...

Just a little heads up that I'm finally up and able to do art stuff again. Ignore the really rough title-image, I just wanted something derpy/cheery to put there.
This cold wrecked me for a good three days, but I've finally had an actual full night of sleep. Outside of catching up with the 'day work' I want to delve back into this art thing as well.
I'm also writing out some panels for the start of the comic. Its not really something I can share here since I'd ra...

Hey all. Just a note confirming that I'll be letting the next person on the patron sketch list know they have a sketch coming in the next week.
I might be delayed in starting it though, as I've picked up a rather vicious cold that's causing some periods of freezing and really painful cramps in the joints of both knees, my wrists and knuckles. I haven't had a cold in well over a decade, if not two decades, but wow, when I do get sick its the biggest, angriest cold out there.<...

This time around its the full set of some of the concepts I'm roughing out for the citizens of Khivesk.
The small port city plays a pretty important role in the story of Cinders (as well as Berrand, Amathos and a bunch of others). Its a hub with a fairly ancient history dating back to before the exodus of some rather powerful beings known as the Indorai (or Indorillian). It also was founded jointly after the original inhabitants had fled from a long ruined city of Whi...

With some of the family stuff that came up about six weeks ago I was waylaid in getting the patron's sketch for May under way (April, sadly, had to be a missed month as time was in such short supply). However I did finally get to do some concepts and inks, as May's sketch was donated to have a character named Cadirr drawn (Laza on FA). I was also kindly given permission to post the final inks here as well as on FA.
I had to abstract a lot of the background, though every fibe...

I'm going to be doing a lot of concept sketches (in addition to the paintings, of course) trying to get in gear for the comic/graphic novel thing that follows Cinders' story.
While I know about each event that happens in their journey, I actually have never sat and sketched out parts of the world that they might see, including the people. They were all just vague concepts laying in heaps in my head.
For this first one I worked on the human guards of Khivesk as a starting poi...

After the last couple of weeks I found I needed to start doing small sketches again to get the cobwebs out of the machine so to speak. I was greatly rusty, and still feel that I am as the sketches were absurdly rough this time around.
I also needed something almost ridiculously happy/pleasant to draw as well. A way to 'chase all the haunted things' out of my creative mindset and reset a little. I wanted to try doing really expressive images, chose to do them in a more ...

Just wanted to post a short update on some things going on lately, and why I've been taking a while to get back to people.
My father tripped and had an injury about a week ago. He is, for the greater part, doing okay, and able to move around with some difficulty. However 'just a little bump and scratch' means something entirely different when you get to be his age, and are on medications including blood thinners.
I'm currently taking up a great deal of slack for him, s...

Just a little warmup comic, getting used to some of the tools I forgot existed like font managers and 'word baloons' in CSP.
Cinders had a little too much coffee that morning. Berrand, confused, still thinks she's the sunlight in his day.

I was doing some warm-up sketching (Which will be posted in short order once I can sit still again) that involved a goofy comic with Cinders and Berrand (which also will be posted soon). A thought hit me as I was drawing both of them, however.
I have so much story and material on the pair of them, yet I've actively avoided doing a graphic novel/paint series on their story.
There were a lot of reasons and justifications I'd make to myself for this. The fact that it woul...

I was supremely exhausted today, and ended up just wanting to draw slightly goofy things. I apologize for how rough this sketch turned out though. It was mainly just a vehicle to get some ideas on goblin-ish looks and culture out of my head. I haven't really worked much on this race that skitters around in the dark corners of the world. While they aren't all evil, you still might want to watch your wallet with them around.
Starting to get ramped up to draw more i...
