The flames of the temple burst into being amid great brass braziers to either side and the air took on a drone of sonorous, monotone chanting from acolytes in thick robes and shaven heads, glassy eyes staring at the great blue square atop the temple.
The chants came. "Pixels. Pixels. Pixels. Pixels." in unison. And the great pixel did not disappoint, glowing with a sudden flash, near violent winds whirling about it's structure until more and more pixels fil...

The final colours took a couple very long days, but days that I get to paint Cinders are very, very good days.
I was hoping to have had this done a couple days before the end of the month, but better late than never I guess!
I didn't want to overcomplicate this image. Its fairly personal, but definitely one that I felt that I wanted to share as well. Plus: she has leg-sockies on.
Leg sockies.
So bonus I guess!

Hey all,
I've been asked several times over the last few months about commissions, specifically if I'd be opening them up anytime soon.
I had originally planned on taking on commission work last fall, as I'm largely the most productive over that season heading into winter. I've had a bunch of different things come up that put a pause on that which I won't really get into.
Recently I've been dealing with 'the day job' more and more, and its actually started taking a tol...

As Dr. Mulligan dug further, he found more and more dots. Every inch seemed to contain more glittering dots. He calculated, later at the university, that there were as many as 300 dots per every inch of digging they did.
His team was quite celebratory, they have struck neigh. There was no going back now.

Finally had an afternoon to sit and finalize the inks/linework I'll be using in the painting. Its been a bit grey and snowing here again for the spring. At least there's a warm neigh out there.
And maybe some coffee.

An image that has been in my head a lot lately, and which will be painted up for April. A more simple image this time around, but fairly steeped in personal meaning.
Hoping to catch up again on notes in the coming week. Easter was a bit of a busy time here.
I should have the inked version done this week as well. Thanks to all of you for your patience and support.

This one is mostly just a buildings idea I did as a warm-up. Sometimes when I'm not sure what I want to draw I'll break out a perspective ruler and start layering up a building in some fantasy city. This time around it was a book-store/candle store.
I'm not entirely sure where this would be in the world. Its a Lorrnathi store (hence the faux old Fruthark language structure on the building signs, and the equinal woman on the 'billboard'). I've always wanted to giv...

More sketches. I missed a few days for personal reasons but managed to get a bit of anatomy study in (getting really rusty) as well as work out a few more Lorrnathi clan symbols.
Will be attempting to get the sketchwork for a painting underway in the next couple of days, and processes will be shared as always.

More sketches from today. It feels good to transfer all of these random sketches I have in various books to a more digital format.
I got to do a bit of research on islands culture today, hence the Qiuloan Tide-Priest. I'm trying out different body-weights and more 'toon' styles when it comes to doing these sketches and so far its working.
I nearly forgot about those horrid 'Apocryphials' that I'd drawn a long while back. I didn't post all the info on them since I...

This time around I found a couple older sketches in a notebook fleshing out some of the lore/world from the 'Tides' comic. I re-did them quickly as sketches this time around, shoring up and adding bits and pieces here and that.

I was encouraged to start sharing sketches on here despite my worries that my way of sketching things out is absurdly messy, in some cases I'll actually just make silhouettes of what I have in mind and 'carve away at it' until it looks roughly right.
In this case I took the more readable sketches I had done over the last little while and will be doing a semi-flood of them. Often I do these sorts of rough thumbnail-esque illustrations to try and jump-start my brain, out of the doze...

The final painting of Pumpkin Troubles. I'd meant to have had this done yesterday but the internet here has been incredibly wonky and a bit all over the place the last couple of days.
I'm thinking of doing a series of 'info pictures' on Cinders and her family. I realize that most people don't know a lot about her or any of her immediate family, even not realizing that she's married, has kids, and once petted a turkey.
Then again, I guess I haven't done much explaining ...

Cinders swears it would be far easier to have a cat 'help' her tie on her leg-guards than a millenias-old entity serving as her familiar inside of a pumpkin.
I subscribe to the belief in Tulpa (essentially, a creation can take on its own life) and this was an image Cinders introduced into the chamber-of-whistles that makes up my cranium that just had to be put down on paper..
..or digital paper... digiper?
Either way. Fluffy hooves.

Finally got this patron-sketch done! This is one of those encounters one doesn't mind coming across in some lonely wood. I'm sure she's friendly.
...At least I think she is.
It'll be a bit of a 'neigh heavy' month as I have an image of Cinders to post up here next at some point as well. I guess after the creative drought the imagery is starting to fill up the void between my ears again.

Coming out of a hectic week I forgot to share this sketch! I was given kind permission to share this one by last month's sketch recipient, and was given a broad free range to draw it.
This is just the rough sketch so far with the inks being worked on now. Naturally I had to draw a lovely mare asking the kind viewer to tie her beads and feathers into her mane, with what will be a spring woods setting.
Spring can't get here quick enough.
As it's my birthday, I'm go...

An image I had started while still sick. Having not done much sketching over the last while has left me incredibly rusty so it was largely my trying to get my brain back into that art space.
A fairly simple picture of Berrand chatting up Cinders in a sort of alternate-timeline thing.

Hey all. I'm quite a bit behind on this month's posts.
A couple weeks back I was run down with another illness, in this case gallstones, that forced me to have to sit around for 8 days in a row and not lean to far forward.. or backward.. or to my right.
To say it started driving me crazy is an understatement. Especially when it came to trying to sleep.
That said, I've been recovering, albeit slowly, but have also been trying to catch up on the day-job duti...

I had a setback this month due largely to a couple of 'events' with my health.
Technically the first such event was back at the end of November last year when I had an anomaly in the sight of my right eye. What I now know as a 'Migraine aura' was a completely new and frankly terrifying thing to happen out of the blue. It took the shape of a lightning bolt creeping in from the periphery of my right eye, followed by a horizontal line wandering across the top of my sight-line, ...

I've had a (very slight) bit of time recently to actually sketch some things for an upcoming D&D game I have. I don't run games often, maybe about once a month (Though maybe that's actually a lot. It doesn't feel that way), and I usually end up using downloaded art or maps opposed to anything I draw myself. Artistic ocd means I don't really do many things quickly when it comes to art, and I can't spend a lot of time on game prep.
This image is a bit of a dual-purpo...

I'll have to call this one done for now. Its around the 20 to 22 hour mark for painting, probably about 28 hours from sketch to final.
It still makes me want to explore the gnomes and elves of the world. I've always liked the more fey/high-fantasy parts of the genre. Its probably why movies like Labyrinth or Legend are some of my favourites. While I don't have any more gnomes or commissions scheduled for this month it might be something I draw from time to time d...

I hadn't planned on posting the inks of this side-commission here, but had made enough revisions to it that I thought it warranted at least sharing. I shored up a lot of the things bothering me about the image.
The friend I'm drawing this for did like it, and was a tabletop gamer themselves years back. When I had mentioned in our conversations that the gnomes in the home-brew world I was nailing planks onto had a more 'feywild' aspect, with horns and tails, she loved the ide...

As a partial gift to a friend I was tasked with drawing a gnome from the Warcraft universe. I don't think I've drawn more than one image from that world, but I was pretty intrigued on trying something different.
Gnomes in Warcraft are ridiculously small. Their proportions tend to be about 2.5 heads tall, so it made trying to figure out how to draw this a bit of a challenge. I'm not used to drawing in vastly different scales like that, and hope that I got it about right...

I'm not entirely sure what possessed me to first get this image in my head just over a year ago. Its hovered around in there for quite a while and I've decided to finally try and sketch away at it.
I haven't done a 'scenery' piece in a while now. I don''t know how long its been since I did anything with a city/townscape in it. In this case its a place on the northern Agencald coast named Kivesk. Sort of a joint port town between javarran, human and dwarfish popul...

A huge, huge thanks to Airakar for being patient with me on this one. I got caught up in the holiday commitments/appointments/work treadmill over the last few weeks, and I should have had this done about 2 weeks ago.
I really, really liked working on pretty much every aspect of this. From being able to draw many spots to detailing out the broken barn/building in the background as the Sack-cloth monstrosity breaks out from its rather flimsy doors.
Did I mention spots?
So...

Just a bit of a preview of an image I'm inking for Airakar as a patron sketch that was for November. I'm a bit late in getting this done due to varied life commitments, so I thank them for both their patience and for allowing me to to share a version of the sketch here for folks!
The image features N'roya, a half-cheetah/half-succubus character who lives in a post apocalyptic setting that I found pretty fascinating. I've always liked the older decayed places of societies, memories ...

I managed to have an evening to sit again after a solid week of appointments on top of work itself to sit and clean up some of the nagging problems I had with this picture. Its likely the next one to be painted, as I'm very interested in trying to do a dual pattern coat (Beraclewan, the Lorrnathi guy, is a paint 'vanner' sort of style) and that bright orange/brown vulpine colour on Jahri (The little pointing critter!).
The main issues I had were largely just angle and some anatomical pro...
