1.9-Preview1

It is time for the first preview release of version 1.9. The main change in this release is a rework of how Lateral Force is calculated for a more raw/direct feel. Let me know what you think of it!

A note about the AC FFB gain slider and clipping
Based on my testing, the FFB/clipping meter in AC cannot be relied upon when using this script, as it appears calibrated specifically for the default FFB system. Even if I bypass the AC FFB gain slider entirely within the sc...

1.8-Preview3

1.8p3 is now available. Finally got around to fixing the flat spot haptic when changing tires or restarting the session. In addition, flat spots should now only accumulate when wheel locking over tarmac or kerb surfaces. Let me know if find any other issues with it!

1.8-Preview2

First pass at a flat spot haptic effect for 1.8p2.

This is a simulated effect currently as I have not found actual physics data on this from the game, not yet anyway. The effect's intensity, threshold and decay rate are adjustable from the Content Manager UI. Flat spots will decay/heal over time, based on the vehicle speed.

One limitation currently is that the effect is not aware of tire changes to reset the flat spot "counter". I am exploring options to address this.

Time to move on from 1.7. The public version will be posted on Overtake shortly. Here is what is new in 1.8p1 to start:

  • Added: Stationary Friction setting
(Adds steering wheel resistance at low speed. The effect fades from 100% strength at 0kph to 0% at 20kph.)

  • Added: Smoothing settings for SAT, lateral and longitudinal force
(Individually configurable smoothing settings for each of the main core forces. SAT for...

Small update to expand on the engine vibration haptic effect. There is now an Engine vibration mode drop-down menu that lets you change the RPM response curve from the default V-shaped curve to a flat response. In addition, an Idle-only mode has also been added which activates the effect only when the car is idling.

An Engine vibration idle boost slider has also been added. Previously, the effect already applied a 4x intensity multipli...

1.7-Preview2

Quick p2 update. Based on feedback received, I have re-enabled the overslip and oversteer force reduction multipliers on Lateral Forces. Overslip at the front wheels and oversteer will now further lighten the wheel. Both settings are now also tweakable through the Content Manager UI in a new Advanced Settings section. I have also slightly reduced the base intensity of the ABS haptic effect.

1.7-Preview1

It is finally time to move on to 1.7. As before, the public version of 1.6 will be released to Overtake shortly.

With the core FFB now mostly sorted out, the focus for 1.7 will be to provide additional options shape the FFB to your preference and to improve compatibility with lower powered wheelbases.

To start things off, here is what is new for 1.7-Preview1:

1.6-Preview4

Going in another direction in this update. I turned down SAT and Side force slightly to reduce weight and harshness which in turn allowed for a reduction in damping for a less lazy wheel in general. I believe this combination still provides enough self-centering, but you be the judge.

The damping system has been expanded for finer controls, but as the FFB is fairly smooth in general currently, I suggest giving 0% Damping a try as well to see how that feels for you.

Gyro force has ...

Version 1.6-Preview3

It is time for p3. For this update, I continued my quest to improve the oversteer behavior, and this has led to a fairly significant rebalancing of the various core forces. As always, everything is experimental, and your feedback is critical to ensure changes are positive.

Force Feedback Strength Changes

  • Increased default side force (25 → 30)

  • Increased internal SAT force multiplier (0.002 → 0.0028)

Version 1.6-Preview2

New update for you all to try. I am experimenting with some changes to try to make the FFB more responsive during oversteer and easier to recover. Is it better? Worse? Let me know!

  • Changed: Disabled rear slip reduction multiplier for side force and SAT
(Some lightening of the wheel during oversteer occurs naturally from the physics of the game, especially with the addition of SAT. Removing the additional multiplier should hopefully allow the wheel to reac...

Version 1.6-Preview1

Hello everyone,

Version 1.5 will be made available on OverTake shortly, which means you now get to try 1.6-Preview1. In this update, I’m experimenting with a new SAT and Gyro implementation, which I find really helps to “ground” the car — if that makes sense.

I’ve also started experimenting with a Minimum FFB setting to improve compatibility with gear- and belt-driven wheel bases. Realistically, though, this likely won’t make the list ...

Released: 1.5-Preview2

Thanks to everyone who’s recently joined — I really appreciate the support!
1.5-Preview2 is attached below. I expect this to be the final update before the public release, after which we’ll shift to the first preview release of version 1.6.

As mentioned previously, this update focuses on refining and building upon the changes introduced in 1.5. One highlight is the new “Spring” slider, which lets you directly control the in...

What’s Coming in v1.5-Preview2

Hello everyone,

Just a quick high-level sneak peek at what I’m exploring for v1.5-Preview2. This update will focus on refining and building upon the changes introduced in 1.5. If all goes well, I expect to release it to supporters later this week or over the weekend.

(Note: Not a full changelog and subject to change)

Version 1.5-Preview1

Hello everyone,

A big thank you for supporting me and this project. See below for the changes introduced in version 1.5. This is a significant update to the script’s core force feedback system, and your feedback will be crucial in making sure everything feels just right before the public release.

Combined, these changes aim to deliver a more cohesive, natural experience, especially when driving at the limit. You should find it easier to feel what the car is doing and make correc...

What is Alternative FFB: Extended?

A full Force Feedback replacement mod for Assetto Corsa. This script is built on the excellent foundation of "Alternative FFB" by Dmitrii A., originally introduced with CSP 0.2.8. I have significantly extended it with new haptic effects and targeted improvements to the core force feedback. With your support and feedback, my goal is to evolve this into the definitive way to experience Assetto Corsa through your hands.

Preview updates will be made available on Patreon for...
