[Thursday] NOLA - Day Two

Our first night here was an odd one.

The Deradoorian performance brought in a  house full of drunk, smelly hipsters who took over every room in the house and essentially negating any possible privacy or sleep we might have wanted until late into the night.

Finally, after midnight, Lillian and I had the house to ourselves.  We spent another hour hanging out on the gorgeous porch talking about life before finally crashing out for a nic...

[Wednesday] NOLA - Day One, pt 2

Managed to sneak in an hour long nap then it was off to dinner at The Country Club down the street.  The weather is absolutely perfect at this time of night with the humidity offset by a nice evening breeze.

We ate on the porch of the establishment where we were joined by a furry little friend (seen above ) who treated himself to some of Lillian's shrimp.  As the sun set, the streets came alive with dozens ...

[Wednesday] NOLA - Day One

It's 7:30am and I'm running on 2 hours sleep.  Lillian Winters and I are about an hour into our five hour journey to New Orleans by way of Dallas.

We started off the adventure arguing with baggage attendants.  Apparently, the Airlines have been looking for new ways to gouge customers for more money.  To check out 5 bags cost $270, which was more than the plane ticket itself.  We originally only had 3 checked bags, but were told that our two carr...

[Tuesday] Travel Notice

Hey gang!

Starting today through mid-next week, I won't be making regular posts.  Instead, starting tomorrow, I'll be heading down to New Orleans for a week of shooting the lovely Lillian Winters for the sorta-sequel to Katie West Goes to Hollywood, tentatively titled Lillian Winters Does New Orleans.

If all goes as planned, I'll be updating Patreon throughout the week with journal entires and photos of our adventures.

[Monday] New Photo Set: Mika Lovely

Last week, Mika Lovely was in town and made a stop by the house for a quick afternoon shoot.

I wasn't sure what we'd be shooting, so when Mika showed up with a suitcase full of latex, I had to come up with a quick lighting scheme that would work with the shiny material.  Normally I don't shoot latex, its not really my flavor...so I had to hope that my lighting style would compliment the rubber.

This lighting style also incorporated the use of color...

[Monday] Photo Set: Fallen Constellations

You never know what you're going to get into when working with Nickie Jean.

Nickie recently partnered with Lucia Garcia to form the art and music project entitled Fallen Constellations.  She asked if I would come spend the day with them and shoot some photos at her house.

I brought my camera but no lights, assuming there would be plenty of sunlight to work with.

This was not the case, as her house sat mostly in shadow, w...

[Friday] Behind the Scenes: Combichrist, "Throat Full of Glass" Music Video

"We want naked girls and we wanna shoot each other in the end."

It's the summer of 2010 and I'm sitting in the dark of El Compadre on Sunset Blvd. with Combichrist's frontman, Andy LePlegua and the band's manager, Jason Fiber discussing details for their upcoming music video for "Throat Full of Glass".

Or really, i should say, that was pretty much the ONLY detail they insisted on.  The rest, I was told, would be up ...

[Wednesday] From the Archives: Dorian Dane's Rainy Day

As most of you know, California's been in a severe drought the past few years, which means we've had very little rain to play in.

Last winter, a brief storm made its way through Southern California and I had the bright idea to shoot some semi-nudes out in the storm.  I put out a model call on Facebook and Dorian Dane answered.  We agreed to meet the next day to shoot.

Only it didn't rain the next day.

Sure, it was overcast, but there was very ...

[Friday] Behind the Scenes: Michael Rosner & Angelica Kotliar

Sorry this is a couple days late.  Took me a minute to get this thing fully edited!

Last year, I worked with Michael "Roz" Rosner on a series of body-painting shoots.

Here's a little BTS video of our second shoot with Angelica Kotliar.

[Thursday] News Updates

Welcome to Week 6!

This week, longtime fan Colin Marshall joined our growing cult.  Welcome aboard, Collin!

Another slow week here, as the blazing summer heat makes me want to do a whole lot of nothing.  On Tuesday, Blood on the Dance Floor came to the studio for an album cover session.  BOTDF is a pretty regular client, usually coming in for photos every month or two.  While I'm thrilled to have the work, I find my...

[Monday] Photo Set: Maegan Machine

The day after getting back to the States after a stint in a circus in Dubai, Maegan Machine stopped by the house for an early afternoon shoot.

One of the challenges of these kinds of shoots is two-fold:  first, after living here for 3+ years, I've shot the hell out of this place; secondly, because I'm working with daylight, I'm limited as to where in the house I can shoot.

Still, sometimes being challenged to come up with new interesting shots when faced wit...

[Friday] Behind the Scenes: Awaken the Empire, "Rise+Fall/Cross My Heart"

I first met Damien Lawson, front man for alt-rock band Awaken the Empire, back in 2011 when he approached me to direct a no-budget music video for The Awakening, the title track off the band's inaugural EP.

A year later, in January 2012, Damien had some label backing and budget to do two more videos off their forthcoming first album.  Starting with the band's "Insomniacs" concept they had created for their fans, I built a storyline based around the "Insomniac...

[Wednesday] From the Archives: Rebecca Case

I first met Michael "Roz" Rosner back in the MySpace days.  He was a painter from up North and we shared a mutual respect for each other's work.

Years later, I ran into Roz during the production of Chamber of Echoes' "World of Silence" music video.  Roz was doing body painting now, creating these elaborate biomechanical patterns reminiscent of artist H.R. Giger.

[August Video] "Afternoon Dream"

So here it is, our first monthly video!

Originally, I was intending to premiere a different video, "Mort de Druantia", but composer Scott Doherty is still working on the score.  Hopefully that one will be ready for next month.

In the meantime, here's the beautiful Melissa Drew giving us a little naughty striptease on a warm afternoon in a Hollywood loft.

Enjoy!

[Friday] Behind the Scenes: HEX w/ Meghan Chadeayne

Last month I shot model and actress Meghan Chadeayne for my HEX series and the cover of an upcoming issue of Miroir Magazine.

Katelyn Elizabeth Oliver was on hand to film a bunch of BTS footage during the shoots, which you can now see at the link below.

This is the first time I've had BTS video shot on a shoot.  Let me know what you think.  If there's enough demand, I may make this a regular thing.

[Wednesday] From the Archives: "Carrion"

In 2011, producer David Bond approached me to do a one sheet for his upcoming horror anthology film, The Profane Exhibit.

"You can do whatever you, I just want something that's dark and fucked up and the best thing you've ever created", he would tell me.

I immediately thought of a human-sized display box showcasing some sort of "profane" image.  Some that would blend the horror with a twisted sensuality.

I enlisted the aid of production de...

Welcome to Week 4 of my Patreon Community!  You're still here, and I'm still kicking out the jams every day.  It's been a slow week, so let's dive right in.

VENICE, FINALLY

I've lived in Los Angeles now going on 14 years, but I've never visited the fabled Venice Beach part of town.  That all changed on Friday, when I headed down to shoot a beauty by the name of Ananda Joy (seen above).  Ananda just recently moved here from New York.  ...

I'm pretty sure I WAY overshot this shoot.

I don't know when the project first started, maybe late 2010?  My business partner pitched me the idea of "a kitchen counter scientist turns himself into a vampire".

"It's The Fly with vampires", he tells me.  Only his agent won't let him direct it because it's "too small".
