Let me know if the geology info in the first few minutes was easy enough to understand or if it confused the hell out of you. Specifically the diagram I drew is a bit fucking goofy and I'm wondering if I should re-do it.
Thanks in advance.

The notorious "Bristol Mountains Buckwheat" that was first collected a decade ago but is still new to science and hasn't been named is featured in this expose of Desert Geology.

If the voice dubs sound like ass or are do-able on this one? Experimenting with different mics. I still have about 15 videos left of South Africa footage to edit and each one takes a few hours since I'm trying to put educational overlay images and diagrams in them, and then of course the over-dubs for species I didn't know the full ecological story on yetwhen I was in the field.
Much appreciated. Go Fuck Yourself, bye.

The legume family is fucking incredible and contains upwards of 20,000 species. It is as ubiquitous as the sunflower family and probably just as ecologically successful. I rarely post episodes of podcasts up but I was so excited about this one I figured it was worth it to send out a notification. For some reason I was also unaware that it is mostly only the Faboideae Subfamily of this family that associates with nitrogen-fixing root Bacteria. Caesalpinioids and Mimosoids don't.

Reposting this class I taught last year that gives a crash course in plant identification. If you want an even better version of this class (consisting of four separate classes) then Backcountry Press still sells them (they're not mine to give away, unfortunately).
If you're just getting interested in botany and want to know how botanists can see a plant they've never seen before and know what family it's in and what other plants it's closely related to, this video explains it

Here's a preliminary viewing of this massive bastard of a video I just finished. This thing sucked to edit, and I honestly should've cut a lot more than I did, but it felt criminal to leave any of this shit out.
In this episode we interview Russel Wagner, a skilled and meticulous plant breeder who specializes in the family Aizoaceae (aka Mesembryanthemaceae), the family of Lithops, Conophytums and Ice Plants.
Russel is a bounty of information and doesn't just grow these thing...

In this episode we return to Namaqualand, South Africa to further explore the cast of species that make this region such a remarkable place of endemism and evolutionary marvel...the kind of place that will land you on your ass with wonder and excitement at just how weird evolution and ecology can get.

This Friday November 12th at 8 am Pacific Time I'll be hosting an online coffee hour where I'll be available online to answer questions, recommend reading materials, and generally shoot the shit while I slowly get wired on strong and bitter coffee. If interested, you can join the zoom link below :

Hello All,
I still have about 100 GB of video from South Africa to edit and put together, among a dozen or so seemingly monumental bullshit tasks going on in life right now. It's a daunting amount of footage to edit and most of the videos would end up being an hour long each. I'm thinking of instead breaking the videos up into roughly 15 minute sections instead. Typically one video consists of an entire day's botanizing, with only one intro and outro per episode. So each 15 minute segment ...

Want to shoot the shit and talk about plants (or anything else)? I'll be planning a Patreon-only meet up/video chat to shoot the shit, answer questions, and give crash-course tutorials/plant advice/reading lists/self-education advice, etc sometime next week. Session will probably run an hour. Not sure how many people will attend but hopefully it will be under a hundred because otherwise it might be too much of a clusterfuck and it might be hard to answer questions.
If this is something...
