The Monster Lair

Welcome to this vibrant all-purpose cave lair, home to your countryside monster of choice!

Be it a bandit camp furnished with our camping and furniture tokens, or a wild beast living in a natural cave, I think this will b...

Cave Tunnel Tiles

Ever since I began the dungeon tiles, people have been asking about natural cave tiles. Well, I'm happy to kick it off with this set!

They print out as one 8x8" tile per page (with more paper-efficient options in the *-Multi.pdf), and join seamlessly at all edges.

We're starting out woefully generic with these four simple different tunnel orientations, but rest assured that things will only get more interesting. Spread between a few tile and token sets, I hope to provide the pieces for y...

Let's Draw Caves

Wow, at long last I am making videos again! Thank you to everyone here for cracking that Patreon milestone.

You will probably immediately notice a change in style; this video is deliberately casual and slow-paced, and there has also been a drop in audio quality. See, I have put video-creation off for so long because of the setup and interruption involved with each one, and my inability to reach my usual standard while travelling.

My solution now is to just make do with what I have,...

Hello to June!

I had a lot of fun this May, even if my predominantly grim maps don't reflect it! Despite their dangerous appearance, I'm sure they make for fun encounters for the players controlling their imperiled characters.

But, it's June now, and I am back at my heavy-duty work station and excited to dive into projects new and old.

Due to popular request and my own excited curiosity, I will be kickin...

The Jagged Cave

Hello everyone! I've been applying my rock-drawing practise from the Rocky Descent and created this Jagged Cave battle map. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Worry not, it comes with your regular grid options in addition to the funky grid seen above. The diagonal grid is just to maximize on playable squares, since it follows the walls more closely.

So, now that those dwarven prospectors have b...

The Snowy Sanctum

An ancient platform abandoned long ago to the frozen wastes, its purpose lost to time.

It's been rather hot lately, and one of the ways I cope is by drawing cold-looking maps. This Snowy Sanctum is another "get the MacGuffin" map, where I imagine the players must battle their way to the top, collect the great xyz, and then make their escape back down.

What comes to your mind when you lo...

The Rocky Descent

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long hiatus. I was temporarily locked out of my Patreon account on PC, but everything is working well again.

So, once again, my maps releases are all going to be in the last stretch of the month! You can look forward to hearing from me very soon.

This particular map is a case study in rocky surfaces. I need plenty more practise, but I think this map would at least be a...

Finally, It's May!

I hope everyone had a fantastic April! It's been flat out for me, to be honest. I've hosted a bachelor party, been a best man at a good friend's wedding, moved house, and been planning a trip for next month.

Sadly I didn't hit my goal of four maps this month, but I hope that the extra-large Oakenspire Treetops and the free Pirate Assets make up for that!

I'm usually not one to wish time away, bu...

Those Pirate Assets I Promised!

A few weeks ago I asked you all to help me come up with ideas for a bachelor party pirate-themed one-shot I was running for my good mate Jeff. Well, it went exceptionally well! And, as promised, attached are the sketchy assets I threw together.

This is the level of completion my own (poor) players get, so please do not expect my 2-Minute Table Top level of detail! In fact, the majority of the game was...

The Skull Cave

A pool of blood trickles endlessly from an ancient skull. How perplexing!

As you can see, this is another isometric map! That said, if you are unfussy with perspective, the PDFs also include the regular square and hex option.

So, is it a dungeon entrance, site of a BBEG ritual, or something else? Let me know what comes to your mind!

Beach Dunes

I've been playing around with pens again, but the real fun was in painting this one!

It's a beach, obviously, but with a lot of space dedicated to bushy dunes, an excellent place for an ambush. Whether travelling along the shore or landing in a boat, your players best be prepared.

The Forest of Oakenspire

There's 21 hours to go on the Forest of Oakenspire Kickstarter!

I am the one responsible for one of their supplementary 2D battle maps. The one you see previewed above, it turns out! You can thank them for the concept for this exciting upcoming map. It will be released later this week.

I really like what these guys are making, and maybe y...

Pirates!

Hello there, I need your creative help!

My good friend is getting married in a few weeks and has asked me to throw him a casual one-shot for his bachelor party. We've settled on pirates as the theme, since the session is basically a complex drinking game, he is a big fan of One Piece, and it seems like a perfectly chaotic theme for one day of D&D.

The only thing that is set in stone is that the bachelor will be the invincible, and the other players his expendable first mates. My plan...

An April Update

March is done, and we're another four maps up. Despite the dense late-March release schedule, I'm rather proud of each one.

This month I have a forest-themed map lined up, a custom dungeon room tileset in the making, and I'd like to experiment with another 3D building, keeping the assembly simple but being more daring with the design, now that I've figured out the basics.

As always, I'd love to ...

The Wicked Woods

For my last map this month I wanted to draw something vibrant and lines-free, and these moody woods are the result. I must say, I adore getting to focus so much on color and form.

Not even the trees or fog dare tread on this soil, but is there a gardener, or is there some mystical significance to the stones? A wraith may await your players here, or an inter-planar rift, or perhaps just a friendly drui...

Dungeon Trap Tokens

Today your dungeons get a whole lot more interesting! There's fifty one tokens in this pack, ranging from annoying to deadly, ball bearings to spheres of annihilation.

The Papercraft House

Hi everyone. Here I am leaving everything to the latter half of the month again, sorry!

I'm pretty excited to show this one off. It functions a lot like our 2D set piece buildings, except it also features walls (inside and out) and a removable roof. The level of immersion is at an all-time high!

Most excitedly, this is really only a simple proof of concept. Now that I've figured out the ba...

TableTop Tokens, My Collab With Geek Tank Games

Hi everyone! This isn't a map post, but I hope that you still find it valuable.

For the past few months I have been involved with Michael Kane of Geek Tank Games in creating these poly-vinyl token packs. My part has been small - basically just allowing my art to be used - but I'm still excited to share the result.

This is my first collaboration on Kickstarter, and the first time my art will be distributed in a physical form. It's quite exciting, and I've learnt a lot from the process. View Post

A March Back Home

I just spent a refreshing month in Japan, and am home now and raring to put pencil to paper once again!

I went to Japan with the goal of hitting my map-making quota despite the exciting pace of travel, and I am proud to say that I managed it! In fact, I found it to be a wonderful source of variety, adventuring a bit, working a bit, sleeping a bit, and again the next day.

I burn out quickly...

The Tranquil Waterfall

I'm back home now, but here is another map inspired by my travels in Japan! It's a peaceful pool fed by a little waterfall.

I painted most of it during the 13 hours I spent yesterday on a plane, and used it as a case study in rocky terrain. I also stumbled across a very nice angular brush for foliage, which was a nice surprise!

That's it (in the nick of time) for this month. I'll plan to g...

Welcome to the Snowy Plaza, where townsfolk gather under the lamplight to watch travelling performers ply their trade on stage. But wait, what are those nefarious shapes approaching from the shadows across the canal? Probably something for the party to fight!

A Japanese Village

A small village inspired by my travels this month. It's only very small, and more of an overnight stop between two cities with an economy built around catering to travellers.

In my mind, it has an inn, a shrine to a mercantile god, a bell tower, and a bath house. The remaining houses are residential, though they could also be stables or storehouses.

Perhaps we can create something of a crowdsour...

The Dwarven Hermitage

At long last, this month's first map is here! This is the Dwarven Hermitage, my experiment in a heavier style of line art.

Whereas my Oasis map was an experiment in color, this is an experiment in lines. It's rather inspired by Darkest Dungeon, and the monochromatic images in older D&D editions. Let me know what you think!

Just a Small Update!

Hi everyone!

As I announced in my post at the start of the month, I am spending this month exploring Japan, enjoying myself and collecting sooo many reference images and ideas.

There will be maps this month, and soon! I am happily drawing in-between sightseeing, and soon will have one ready to share. I just thought I would let you all know that, since the month is already half gone and all.

It's such a pity we need to sleep, huh?

Anyway, some fun maps are coming up, so watch ...
