Where is the Lazy Gecko?!

Good morning my sweet Patrons!

We are even further southwest after leaving from a wonderful week on the ball at Marathon. What a great little stop Marathon was, we got to make some wonderful new friends. Rhys has been making more kid friends than we’ve been making adult friends which is great!

After we left Marathon we headed for Looe Key Reef in hopes that we would be able to snorkel this wonderful, very alive reef. However, once we hooked onto the mooring ball it turned i...

We hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating the joy of Easter with all the ones you love! As for us, we are going to take Taco in to a cruisers brunch. We are hoping to meet some new cruisers and get Rhys playing with some kids his age :) Another big announc...

From No Name to Key Largo!

We are finally headed south to Key Largo! We left No Name Harbor around 11:00 this morning in hopes that the weather window we've been waiting for would allow us to take a nice smooth sail south. The winds have died down, causing us to motor sail for a good amount but we did get some sailing in. So we've continued to keep both sails up to gain that extra knot or two. It's definitely a good test on our engine which will only help us gain confidence since our recent breakdown. We're about half w...

Waiting on a weather window!

Here we sit...Waiting on a window to cross over to the Bahamas! It's not looking like we'll get one very soon so we plan to leave Miami tomorrow and head south along the outside of the Keys. The inside is just too shallow.

There are some great reefs and spots to explore that are only about 100 miles south, we plan to high tail it there and then when we get a window we'll leave from the Key Largo area. That will allow us to "ride" the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas instead of battle across it...

48. Sailing S/V Lazy Gecko - Stranded at sea!

Hello beautiful Patrons!

We're back up and running! With the boat and with the video series! Here we get stuck out at sea with no engine and basically no wind. Then we get to work on the Gecko!

The Vimeo version includes a break down of the housing assembly as well...Just in the event that you like that!

Thank you for supporting our adventure! We can't describe what it means to us! Enjoy!!

Happy St Pattys Day!

We hope you have some great plans today! Wear something green and hopefully drink something green as well!

We had an unexpected death in the family and shot home for a bit to say goodbye. We're back now and we depart the marina today! We have no plans to hit another marina for a month! Now, thats some time on a boat!

We might go "live" on facebook during our little push from the dock so watch for that notification. Todays plan? Leave the marina, see if there is some wind to sail with her...

Making water from the sea!

We've had this baby sitting here pickled (I'm not sure what that means other than Jeremiah says it lol)..Basically preserved I think! When we bought the Lazy Gecko, the membrane to our watermaker was at the factory, it had been professionally preserved. They wouldn't keep it there since we weren't the original buyers of the unit so we had it shipped to us.

Jeremiah installed it and taped it all off. Then we proceeded to use the watermakers original through hull for our AC unit that we had to i...

Check your messages folder!

I've sent the Vimeo codes for February Patrons! Woohoo! Please check your messages for them. Remember, if you have previous codes, they work. These are only for Patrons that haven't recieved a code yet!

Please message me if you feel that you should have received a code but didn't. It got a little confusing with the Vimeo issues we had this month.

Enjoy!

Thank you!

Hello wonderful Patrons! We wanted to take a moment to thank you for the support you've shown us during the month of February! What you do for us is just incredible, we are so appreciative! We got a chance to meet a few of you at the Miami Boat Show and boy that was such an honor. It was so neat to put a face to some of your names...Until the next time and maybe then it will be in an anchorage somewhere!

We are about out of here (Miami). The fuel issue is resolved, Rhys has a Dr appt lat...

We're looking good!

We got the fuel issue sorted out. The truth is our tank wasn't too bad but the fuel was. While at a marina (that we do not recommend for many reasons) in North Palm Beach we got fuel from a truck. There wasn't fuel at the marina, they had a marine fuel truck delivery service. Basically a fuel truck that comes around the docks. He was filling out a yacht and Jeremiah asked him if he'd fill us up. There it went! A tank full of growth floating in the bottom.

The only way to help that would ...

47. Sailing S/V Lazy Gecko - Offshore Sailing

Latest update on our fuel issue!

Hello Patrons!

Ok, here we are. The Racor primary filter is changed out with the new one. That was about $180 for the new unit. Then Jeremiah rebuilt the old with the rebuild kit ($30). So we have a nice new one and a spare which we enjoy having.

Jeremiah opened the fuel tank and this is what he saw. The tank walls look fine and the fuel appreared clear. Of course there's about 27 gallons in there so it's pretty deep,  we don't truly know the condition of the bottom but here's...

Will you be there?

Will you be at the Miami boat show this weekend?! We will!

We're in the area and will be hanging out at the sail side of the boat show on Friday and Saturday...With a possibility of Sunday as well.

If you see us come up and say hi! Make sure we know you're a Patron, you'll get a brass Lazy Gecko Sailing challenge coin!

We hope to see you there!

Update!

Ok troubleshooting brought us down to this. This is a Racor primary fuel filter. The filter itself isn't clogged, we believe it's the housing that is causing the problem. These have lots of little parts including a ball type of check valve that can get all gunked up. We've ordered a brand new one and will swap it out. Then we plan to rebuild this one (you can get a rebuild kit) and then have it as a spare. So we're on hold until the new part comes in the mail. You don't want to open a fuel ...

We're alive!

Ok ok, it wasn't that bad! Soon after leaving the inlet we found our old gal (Volvo Penta) wasn't running well. A few filter changes, priming sessions...She gave us all she had for the day.

So we sailed down the coast with our SOUTH, not EAST Mr Weatherman, winds. Meaning the wind was right on the bow, we tacked all the way down at about 2knts. That was until we lost our light winds and called our tow boat.

Then we just cruised on in, tied onto a bright red boat with flashing red l...

Update along our journey!

What an amazing time it's been! We're currently in a beautiful anchorage in south Florida waiting on a weather window to continue on! Today the seas are up to 5', we decided to wait for better seas and take some time for a repair.

We've been sailing offshore recently instead of using the ICW. Mainly because the further south you get in Florida, the more crowded it gets and the more bridges you have to deal with! The fixed bridges aren't really an issue, most are 65' high, the Lazy Gecko ...

Good morning Patrons!

We wanted to pause to say thank you for your support during the month of January! We had a great month! The kids came for the holidays, we got to spend some amazing time with them and then prep the Lazy Gecko to continue on with our journey.

We do communcate through message with most of you but to include those that don't email often. Thank you all so much! We're honored that you support us and we hope we put a smile on your face! Lets go sailing!!

Moving on up!

Remember when we made Rhys' baby room onboard? Well the time has come and it's now been converted into a toddler bed! Basically the cloth wall is no longer used. He's been great with it so far! We do use it when we're underway however. Just about a foot on the side so he doesn't slide out while we're getting that heeeeeeel on! Love you Patrons! You're so great to us! Brittany

45. Sailing S/V Lazy Gecko - 45!

Wow, can you believe it's been 45 episodes Patrons?! We absolutely would not have continued doing this for so long without you, so thank you! You enjoying our videos is what makes them so rewarding.

Here we go! Continuing down the coast of Florida! It's been an amazing adventure so far! This video has some awesome footage in it where we met up (by accident) with several other sailors, we all sailed down the ICW together. Awesome!! Vimeo viewers, there's one for you too!

So cool!

We've found some pretty sweet spots along our way down the ICW! A few scary ones too (good thing there's a salty US Marine onboard)! Now it's time to leave the tight walls of the ICW and go offshore! The bridges get too abundant and the currents get too crazy as you head further south than our current position. It's much easier and safer in our opinion to just hop offshore. We'll see you on the flip side!! Love, Us!
