Carey tried her best to comfort him. As the loudspeaker advised the waiting passengers that it was time to board, she playfully elbowed Nicholas in the ribs.

“Are you ready to go home?” she asked. Nicholas nodded. “Well, let’s get the fuck out of here,” she replied.

During the games third and penultimate quarter, Anthony was in the Sir Edwin Smith grandstand when two young girls emerged from the crowd and bounded down the steps towards ground level. One was a preteen while the younger of the pair looked barely five-years-old. Anthony stepped aside to let them pass.

Case 161: The Yosemite Sightseer Murders (Part 2/2)

On Thursday July 22 1999, 50 FBI agents arrived in Foresta on the western edge of Yosemite National Park. The wintery conditions that had clouded the region months earlier had since dissipated, replaced by warmer weather and greener scenery. The area where the female human remains were found was relatively unknown to tourists. Its dense woodland and grassy meadows were split by a rushing stream. The granite summits of Yosemite Valley were visible in the distance.

Case 161: The Yosemite Sightseer Murders (Part 1/2)

In early 1998, three Finnish tourists were sound asleep at the Cedar Lodge hotel near California’s Yosemite National Park. The trio consisted of two young girls and an older woman who was acting as their guardian. At around 2AM, they woke to the sound of something rattling. It wasn’t particularly loud, but the hotel's remote setting, surrounded by acres of woodland, meant that even quiet noises could cut through the silence like a buzzsaw.

“I just want to say goodbye to you, and the kids, and let you know that what I am doing is the right thing. This is what I need at this point in my life, so don’t worry… When I come back, I will be a much better and happier person.”

Q&A October 2020

When recording this episode, we experienced technical difficulties and had to switch from USB to phone recording (around 12 minutes in).

There is a noticeable change in sound quality because of that.

Thank you for your understanding!

This month, true crime writer Vikki Petraitis joins us for the audio Q&A episode.

Happy to help and eager for the chance to earn a little extra money, Laura agree...
