Sprint 004 Day 2

Getting ready for Sprint 004

Hey guys!  Thanks for all your encouraging messages on Friday.  I did mostly take the weekend off, and I really needed it.  The break made me realise that I need to work in a sustainable way – I'm no good to the project if I'm burned out.

Prototype's done!

I was planning to create a fully functional prototype, with every possible option and outcome simulated, but Hyneman and Tommygun convinced me that that'd be overkill.  So today I completely finished one branch from start to finish, and shared a working prototype of it with the others in the team.

Complexity

Hey guys!  Another solid day of prototype development.

This is taking longer than I anticipated to get right.  But then – what doesn't?

The weird thing is that it's always a surprise and a disappointment to me when I get to 7PM and realise that the task is going to roll into the next day.  You'd think I'd learn, but every morning I wake up filled with optimism and excitement because the task is nearly finished.

Moar work on the Sex Engine v2 prototype today!  Yesterday's rebalancing seem to be working well – I'm much happier with the pace of the scenes now.

One of the biggest changes to expect is a shift away from making lots of small decisions to making fewer big decisions in each sex scene.

Balancing pace & detail

I had a challenging day on the Sex Engine v2 prototype today.  I was feeling unhappy with the way the actual sex scenes were playing out; it felt like I was getting into too much detail, and the pace was falling flat after a certain point.

But increasing the pace risks skipping over important moments (like the little series of escalations that make the buildup towards sex with someone new so sexy).  And – worse – it can mean that the writer takes away control of ...

Mechanics

Sorry for not posting yesterday.  I worked right up until the moment I had to go out.

This weekend I made solid progress on the Sex Engine v2 prototype.  Right now I'm focusing on tweaking the sex scene mechanics, figuring out the exact ways that characters get turned on, initiate sex, achieve orgasm, etc.

I'm not trying to get the mechanics perfect, just create a working first iteration that we can improve upon based on feedback from the team and the community.

Working so hard...

Prototype half day

My meetings ran until early afternoon, but I still managed to get in a good few hours work on the prototype today.

Yesterday I was deep into the details.  Today I zoomed out to work on the overall structure of the prototype scene, and was able to firm up some parts of the design that weren't yet clearly defined, and make some improvements in my designs for the overall systems.

Prototype design

I had a great day working on the prototype for the new Sex Engine.

It's still a few days from completion (I haven't even shown the rest of the team, yet), but I'm so excited about the shape it's taking.  I feel like this is going to be a bigger change than many people are expecting.

Bug fix version & design day

Final pre-release polishing day

Long day!  I spent it working on a fix for a lingering aesthetic problem.  The new avatar body shapes have slightly different shoulders and jawlines, causing white gaps to appear on most of the haircuts:

Female Agent 1.6 poll results

Last week, 383 patrons from the Analyst tier and above voted on what they wanted to see in version 1.6 of Female Agent.

By a huge margin, an upgrade of the random NPC generator was chosen.  This is a critical task, because until we code in some differences (especially personality differences) between the NPCs, every guy the agent has a sex scene with will behave in exactly the same way.

Jewellery system implemented

Hey guys!  Today and yesterday I added some things to improve the dress up scenes:

Bikini tanlines complete

Holy cunt this was more of a pain in the ass than I expected it to be, but it's done!  That one agent who actually keeps her top on at the pool will now see bikini top tanlines, instead of an apologetic dev note.

Bikini tanlines day 1

Those who played the early access version may have noticed that the tanlines weren't fully implemented in that release – specifically, an agent who keeps her bikini top on in Dubai doesn't get the right tanlines.

I was hoping to get this fully implemented this morning, but I ran into technical problems to do with layers.  By late afternoon, I finally got it working and looking good  – and then, during testing, found that it conflicted with the new abs layer.

Frustration

Hey guys!  I did lots of work today...but somehow failed to complete any major tasks.  :-(

I made progress on three of the big tasks from the Should Have list – wet hair, messy hair, and nipple pokies - but none of them are quite finished.
