Studio Setup 3.0

A little collection of animations I've been doing recently to try different ways to add life to otherwise static scenes/animations.
Let me know what parts you want me to break down in separate videos :-)

So I did not actually record all of this video since I was just adding models from the model bank which is nothing groundbreaking. During the non-recorded time, nothing was made to the lighting or tonemapping.
Still, if you think there’s something I didn’t explain well enough, please give me a shout!
Probably the most boring and pointless video of all times, but I've been asked not to cut the boring things out so I won't. You'd probably want to scroll past most parts of this video :-)
New videos are rendering ATM!

This is the result after today's recording. This is an Animatic, so it's the very first test, the cheezy music ain't gonna be there, and I instantly realized some timing and animation issues. The fire will be replaced etc. Lot of more work to do.
The recording comes up tomorrow!

Recording right now: I'm breaking this commercial scene down for you and continuing to work on the project. Animating a fire in a fireplace, animating camera dollys, doing animatics and making final animation.
See a short test animation of the fire here:

Please note that it's very roughly edited so there might be RT loadings etc that is not cut out, just scrub through those. :-)

Hey.
The video of this image is coming up in a few minutes. In the package below you will find the post production file. I did the post in Affinity so if you don't have affinity you won't be able to open it, but for you I took a print screen of the layer setup so you can still get a feel for what's going on.

Hey guys! Just want to inform you that, since I'm in the middle of a tender right now, it'll take a couple more days until the next update. This tender is due October 9.
After that I have at least 3 videos coming:
1. Quick interior from scratch (recorded already)
2. The woolrich fabric
3. Deep dive in our Connecter database and how we've set it up.
+ Sharing some scanned textures.
... After that, continuing the other stuff that is not fini...

... for a thing I'm working on. Won't say much about it now, but I'll keep you guys updated through this little journey of mine while I keep quite about it elsewhere.
Tomorrow I'm meeting up with an art director friend with who I will do some storyboarding and planning.
Got a few questions about this sofa and throw on Facebook, so might as well record the setting up of the shaders and hair.
Actually super simple!

Since I got a question about this scene setup, I made a quickie about it! No ground breaking news in it tho :-)

One thing I want you to take with you from this video, is how the details we often neglect makes a big difference for the image.
The details that are so boring to do, but when you do them you realize how fast it went, so fast there's no reason NOT to do them.

Again sorry for the bad sound. I had forgotten how shitty it is to record here in my concrete studio.
Sorry for the wait guys. I figured I could do a few of these videos now when I have limited access to a computer. This video itself isn't very informative but I thought I could cover a few of these topics, like my thoughts on client relations, marketing yourself etc. Not the answers to anything really, just my views of what I think works.
I will also hopefully get better at doing this type of videos as this is not something I usually do :-)

Too often I see people getting totally cought up on real world physical properties in surfaces and materials, referring to scientific texts, diagrams, numbers, curves and what not, believing that if you can learn this by heart, you’ll become a better 3D artist.
You probably won’t, because 3D is not the real world. Yes most renderers have PBR materials and more and more models are being made with scanned properties, but 3D is d...
So let’s get back to topic. Why doesn’t your images look as realistic as you want it to?
I want to start with the lighting. Let’s first realize that lighting is a simple concept. Light is made up of light rays bouncing around; everytime it hits a surface, it changes in color and intensity. All this is math, pure simple math, and there’s no subjective way of looking at it. It is what it is, following the...
Yes, finally someone speaks out. The big mystery of how to render fantastic, photo realistic images is revealed.
Well, not really…
We’re getting questions on facebook basically every day about how we do this, how we do that, and as I stumbled upon a very funny thread in the Corona forums a while ago, I felt it could be appropriate to write a little article on the subject.
Please understand, that this whole article is philosophical and highly subjectively writt...
Part three. Next part we'll start prepairing assets for the exterior. Not really sure what we'll do but we'll figure it out along the way.
I'll be away from home during the summer but will still be able to make videos. I'll also write some articles and stuff to upload on Patreon so I'll keep you busy :-)
So my microphone mount broke down (as everything else in my life right now) and I had to tape it onto a cardboard box. Resulted in me not being able to use my microphone windshield, so I'm sorry for the bad puffing sound the first 3-4 minutes but it got better after a while.
Will make sure to sort that out til the next ones :-)
Quickly making an accurate floorplan could be really useful if you're going to remodel a clients' space or renovating your own home.

New video, not related to any video series.
In this video I shoot a sample of wood planks, color correcting it using the ColorChecker Passport, and making a completely seamless wood texture and normal map.
I use a randomize UVW script which you can download on the link below, navigate to "scripts". Please not that if you're using FStorm, it now has a "random offset" in the bitmap node, however it cannot flip the texture which is why I still use my script.
Hi guys!
First of all, I've now added a new tier to Patreon making it possible to subscripe for all 2018 content.
Here's a video, it's not a tutorial, but rather an intro to a tutorial of how I made the "Welcome to my place" video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFzt-3sRExI).
I thought there isn't much to teach regarding using a hammer and nails, but in the next video I'll go through the ...
