December Updates

Here are some feature updates, improvements and bug fixes that we've been working on for you during December.

Playing Favorites

Although I've only spent a modest amount of time on the housing side of EverQuest II, our favorite game has a substantial community of talented furnishing and decorating artists. And for good reason: by all accounts the EverQuest II player housing system is among the most robust and detailed in the large-scale MMO world. Check the Housing...

What's in a Nameplate?

A little over two years ago when we were still scaling up many of the basic UI parts, one component that was not cooperating was the overhead nameplate. There were two areas causing trouble: the ornate brackets around heroic and epic targets, and a lack of space between certain NPC names and their subtitles. Large and X-Large nameplates do exist, but this article explains why they ...

ProfitUI Community Edition: Theme Choices

If you're a ProfitUI CE player, you can't go wrong with the Classic ProfitUI skin. And the updater also offers two other low-key choices for alternate custom skins: Fossil and Storm. But what about those default themes -- Red and Blue?

ProfitUI CE player jiimbo recently reported a display glitch when trying to use the Default_Blue theme, which reminded me that I've been promising to mak...

December Waypoints: DarqUI v3.1.3.5

A new version of the DarqUI Utility is available at eq2interface.com.

If you are unsure about how to install or upgrade DarqUI, take a look at this video.

Important: The first thing you want to do after installing or upgrading your utility is check at the top of the Updates page for the black-and-white Patreon logo. If you don't s...

It's... Alive!

Okay, technically not yet. But I wanted to answer some questions about what you'll see today and through the weekend.

You may have noticed some DarqUI file updates filtering in over the past few days, and after the servers go down for the last time before Ballads of Zimara goes live (which should be right about now), files that affect default features will become available on the premium update server. ...

November Feature Pack

Here are some changes that have been worked into the premium UI recently. Reapp's ACT Statter and the DarqUI Stat Monitor, Quest Journal, Maintained window, Maintained Spell Monitor and DarqUI Help files have all been updated!

Challenging the "Stats" Quo

It's rare, but every now and then we have an opportunity to remove something from the UI, yet it gets better in the process. You'll recall back in the summer Darq Side member and ACT plugin creator Reapp View Post

Celestial Spellshards Cost *How Much?!*

Here's a new widget that's going to save you some time (but sadly no plat) at the crafting station.

Recently we had a daily tip that shows a quick way to reload a recipe after acquiring the raw materials needed to craft it. Often if your stock is running low you'll use the Broker to pick up the needed recipe components. But that's another search that adds extra steps to the process.

Darq Side member Ixoth suggested a way to skip some of those steps, and I think yo...

On the Clock

In the October newsletter we introduced some useful improvements to the premium Clock window, in the form of custom command lines that can be set up to repeat at intervals. Late in development we hit upon a method that makes timer countdowns very accurate, where previously the precision of very lon...

Ballads of Zimara Beta Update

Note: This post is for DarqUI Premium patrons who are using the 2K or 4K UI on the Beta server. A very special group indeed!

The Ballads of Zimara beta test is in full swing, and I hope you've had a chance to check things out over there. If you want to use DarqUI Premium in Beta, it's pretty easy to do -- our all-in-one video has two sections on Beta setup.

NPC Spell Monitor Tweak

I call it a tweak, but in fact it was a bug fix for the NPC Spell Monitor. It was just two lines of code, but it is enough of an improvement on how the component works that I wanted to show it to you. My other reason for this post is to encourage you to take a look at the Monitor if you have not already played around with it.

The NPC Spell Monitor is one of those components where you can choose h...

DarqUI 2K/4K: Group 32

Good citizens of Norrath and right noble champions of the Darq Side! The day will come to pass when the 2K/4K Project shall reacheth its journey's end. The Scribes of Scaling will silence their keyboards and cease imbibing icy tankards of Red Bull.

Brave warriors, veterans and recruits alike will no longer squinteth mere inches from the screen. And the Grand Compendium of Enlargement will thenceforth cast its crowning mark upon the hallowed chronicles of Norrathian legend.

New Theme: Lazereth

Back in August, Darq Side member Annoying (@Lazereth on Discord) messaged me with some refinements to the Storm color theme that worked better with the overall look and feel. Storm, if you have not checked it out, is a very flat, very minimalist UI theme or "skin" that can be applied to DarqUI from the Themes page of the utility.

While we were discussing the fixes, I mentioned that Storm was actually developed as a clean set of base graphics files to ma...

Broker Presets Update

As new expansions roll in, so do new harvestable resource tiers, status relics and various other tradeable bits and pieces useful to Norrathian daily life. Both DarqUI and ProfitUI CE have controls to check the Broker window quickly for these necessities, but the UI components have to be updated manually to include any new item categories.

Many thanks to Darq Side member Dr. Pepper for taking the reins and updating Market Presets for both UIs to get them current. Well d...

Composite Icon Fixes

Recently in Discord we discussed an apparently new way that the game designers are repurposing existing spell icon assets: instead of a typical image with a colored background, certain icons have begun appearing with two overlapping images. ACT Statter by Reapp

If you've been playing EverQuest II for a while, you've surely come into contact with Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT). Combat performance, even for casual solo players, is measured and compared every day using this app. Other combat-oriented functions such as the ability to set conditional alerts and review encounters in a VCR-style time lapse make ACT an essential supplement for our favorite game.

Mercenary Training Reminder

Here's how to use the new Mercenary QoL feature that was mentioned in the July Waypoints newsletter. The idea is to set up a simple tooltip reminder whenever you start training any mercenary. The reminder will stay persistent until you refresh it, or until you start training a different mercenary.

When it's all set up, the reminder icon looks like this:
