Its sad when March takes me by surprise. For whatever reason I still thought there were a couple days left in February.
March is a bit bitter-sweet for me. I'm bidding farewell to a job that wasn't too bad considering what it entailed, and am back on the hunt for another. In one way this actually frees up a little bit of time, at least temporarily, the down side is that I need to force myself to leave the house/studio space now that I won't have somewhere to be. And the...

For last month's Patron sketch I was asked to draw an intriguing character from a D&D game we are in (Played by Joff). He's a professor as well as a spellcaster of quite high regard (He's also quite high level if I remember correctly).
I was tasked with capturing the air of 'Learned man' with just a touch of 'Don't bother me with trivial things' and was given several references to use. I went back in D&D history to look over some of the art of the past so I could cap...

Will be sending out the next Patron sketch query today. I apologise again for the week's delay.
For those that asked, my father is doing better. He's older, so it takes him time to recover. He's not 100% but he's getting there, and my scramble to take care of stuff for him should be over (for now at least).
I should also have some sketchwork from last month's Patron to share soon as well as some sketchwork for another painting planned down the line. I know a lot o...

Tylviika is in the colder regions of the Aegencald (A southern type of 'south pole' continent on the world). Despite frigid temperatures, Khavijas people have settled there for ages.
Sort of imagined a pair of family members returning home after a long trek.

Hey all,
A family health issue has come up rather suddenly today. The Patron sketch for this month will be announced a week later than normal, and started at the beginning of next month.
I'm going to be taking care of more things on top of working a job and the painting, and it means I have less and less time. I'm going to try my best to keep things on track as much as I can. This wasn't something that could have been forseen, unfortunately.
Cheers,

I'm lucky enough to have a couple D&D games I participate in. In one I get to be a player (something I haven't done effectively in ages), the other is a game that I run. While I don't know if the game I run is terribly good, I do like drawing out some of the NPC's and characters in the storyline.
This is three of the party, effectively just half of the 'trouble' they get into. The three are lurking around behind the chemists in the massive metropolis of Auchenovar. ...

Wanted to post a brief update since it's been a little while since the last painting was posted.
I had an 'update' on Windows 10 that seemed to set off a chain reaction of bizarre behavior on my work machine. I had everything from my framerates dropping to a slide-show when working in Sketchup (A simplified 3D building program), to my tablet's drivers getting forced out and replaced with what I could only imagine was a 'good idea' from Microsoft.
It got bad enough at one point that...

"Hallo Mr. Emberwick.
You are looking very flamey today.
I brought you a gift!
I know you like oranges
And you like incense.
So I brought orange valewood incense!
I would have brought a pie.
But I think you and yours would have burned it.
But thank you for keeping the path bright.
Even when its cold.
Even when its quiet.
You are remembered. Always"

Finished up the flats for the eventual painted image. I wanted to capture that lonely 'grey' that overcast winter days can get. Colours get fairly de-saturated and there aren't as strong of contrasts which is weirdly challenging to get flat colours right on. Everything has to be de-saturated save the lights (which will be brought up and made brighter on the final painting).
This will give a bit better of an impression of what's happening as well. While there is still so...

The cleaned up and inked version of Cinders making her rounds giving out gifts to some of the elementals that help light the path through the Aegencald and her domain.
I ended up adding in her transportation as well. A covered sleigh pulled by Sherdaylyn the Reixos mare (shifter people). Sher has mittens on, and a hat, of course. I figured adding these elements in made the image feel less lonesome than just a long road that Cinders might have been walking along. (and it's an ...

A (slightly late) sketch for a patron from last month. The holidays pretty much wrecked my schedule, so many social calls and visits and the nightmare of retail-work just pushed all projects back.
I've only ever inked pine trees once before (I think it was for the Morhost book) and they seemed to fit the theme of this picture. A sort of 'mountain' or hill setting. I'm surprised by the amount of times I get to draw rifles and various fire-arms in patron sketches, given what I ...

Just a preview of the sketch I'm going to be turning into a painting. Along the very long, very isolated roadway through the Aegencalds leading towards Lathea-Halvii in the Lorrnathi lands, little lanterns sometimes house whisps of elemental fire.
Cinders makes sure they are remembered, and brings along a bit of incense and Walnamwood for their homes.
Happy Christmas folks, and if you don't celebrate, have a peaceful weekend!

Hard to believe Christmas is nearly here. The month has flown by, and was a blur of overwork at the job and trying to set up the lighting without blowing the house up (given my luck through the year, it was a possibility!).
I'm hoping to have the sketch for the painting up soon, and the painting done soon after that. I fumbled around with a theme I wanted to go with, finally just going with something a bit wintery. I probably won't have the final high-res done in time for Chr...

I had chance to do one last illustration for the Lucanii Drift book by Paul Kidd that will be released fairly soon from what I've heard.
I was tasked with a quick commission to draw a pair of crewment looking out upon 'some kind of snow monster'. Thus I went full ham on this one and drew from Giger as well as Dead Space.
It might not have eyes, but at least it has a spine-tongue with teeth.

I was a bit delayed getting to this sketch. Lots of 'holiday activity' and some general nonsense meant drawing was right out.
This time around its a sketch of a pair of characters in a friend's D&D game. Alv (human) and Sarrah (half-dwarf) Miller. Alv is a bit more sketchy since I quickly had to redo a bunch of stuff on him, but its good enough to get the general idea across. I'll definitely be inking/finishing this one at some point.
I've picked the sketch to...

Hard to believe it's already December! It felt like it was just last week that I was all giddy that the leaves were turning. Now there's a light dusting of snow over everything, which I admit is charming (until I shovel it) and gives everything a 'Swiss Alps' feeling.
The path for December will likely feature a lot of fantasy styled artwork. I've been lucky enough to get to play in a game of D&D lately and I've been wanting to draw a lot of adventurer types and general fa...

Just a note for the new folks at the $10 tier (and up): Every month I pick a name from the list and will do a digital sketch for that person. Its not a raffle system (though I do pick randomly). If you are on that tier, even just once, you will get a sketch down the line (I can only do one per month since I work another job and do a bit of paid illustration as well). After a few days of almost non-stop work, I've managed to not only get the previously lost image done in flat colours, but even got the basic lighting blocked away on it. I'm technically now slightly ahead of where I was. Hopefully I'll be able to get this finished within a reasonable time frame. Barring any other wierd sudden problems it'll definitely be done within the month.
..But after two days awake, I think its time to faceplant. I think the above image is now bur...

Hey again, all.
Just wanted to give an update of the plan going forward. Due to the file being bafflingly corrupted (It was near completion) I'll essentially have to go back from around the linework stage now (hopefully I still have that tucked away on the backup drive).
My plan is that I will absolutely have at *least* the painting done in full. I plan on working a 'dusk till dawn' schedule. Probably in the range of 12 hours an up every single day to catch up, an...

Hey folks,
Sadly the artwork I had been working on somehow got corrupted. I literally have no clue what happened, as it was on a brand new drive and nothing else has been corrupted that I've checked. It just will not open with Clip Studio anymore.
To that end I will need to, quite literally, redo several weeks worth of work on the image in question. I apologize for this, if, by the end of the month, anyone wants a refund I will gladly do so. This was entirely out ...

I know there's a lot of stress going on for my friends in the U.S. right now, so have a tiny dragon dancing with a pumpkin!
This was last month's sketch, randomly picked for Bahumot. I was given a choice of a lot of interesting character types and designs, but I went with the kobold since it sort of fit a fall theme (in my head, at least) and the bitty dragon-folk could use some love since they tend to be treated as fodder in most fantasy universes.
Given that she's a bard who uses...
