[Ranger] Item - Terraformers

I know Tasha's Ranger options are much better for the Ranger nowadays but I'm only allowed to work with the SRD, plus I figured it might be nice to make the original ranger more fun and interesting. More choices, maybe.

This set of thick boots warm to rangers who cherish their fundamental connection to druidic magic and the environment around them. Each step and footprint offers a brief glimpse of the terrain they last manifested, and leaves behind a similar lingering scen...

[Ranger] Item - Ambuscade Stone

Any ranger kit will have some sort of trap, but it was strangely difficult to design a nonmagical trap since any snare trap could theoretically accommodate any mechanical use. It was also hard to design this magical stone from an artistic standpoint too since at the end of the day it was just a stone ... it needed to be inconspicuous but somehow imply druidic form through its use. I took inspiration from druidic stones, which are interesting old rock formations.

As for its use, it's des...

[Ranger] Ammunition - Arrow of Tracing

I've already designed a few arrows in the Aripockily's Quiver compendium, so I'm not doing too many more. This one is a nice arrow for trailing your prey, whether you shoot it into the side of an escaping creature or fire it into the back of a leaving wagon.

---

This arrow whistles quietly in flight and leaves behind a colorful trail. Rangers are said to carry a number of such arrows, each enchanted with a different color to track their quarry across even the densest wildernes...

[Ranger] Weapon - Reignbow

This weapon came together first from the name pun, followed by the idea of seven arrows representing the colors. It's inspired by Nylea's bow (with its four arrows of seasons). From there, the idea for each arrow representing one of seven ranger conclaves came together, now representing the weapons/items elsewhere in the collection.

This weapon was crafted by master bowyers of the Elder Guardians, made for a time before the world cosmology was fully explored. Each of the s...

October Theme Poll + December Update

Thank you everyone who joined since the last month! I'm so grateful for the support especially as my busy months are coming to a head in October/November. The past couple months have been extremely rewarding, finally able to put all these ideas down on paper.

This month's theme is one of my favorites since the beginning because Ranger is my favorite class. I've come up with three new subclasses, but I wish I had more time to design the rest of the ideas I had, from the giants to the ooz...

[Ranger] Weapon Pair - Furnal Claws

I wanted to design something for the two-weapon-fighter rangers or strength-based rangers. There's so many DEX rangers but Strength can be really fun too! These weapons encourage attacks as much as possible thanks to a passive bonus to damage per hit as well as extra damage on the extra hit.

The rangers of the Fiendish Mask conclave sometimes take more than the infernal magic of the fiends with which they consort. Such weapons are horrific fusions of blade and flesh, formi...

[Ranger] Item - Veil of the Hollow

Everything Ranger can't be all bows! This one is for the rangers who deal with places of the dead, and includes an interesting addition to probably the least-used feature Primeval Awareness. It also allows rangers to reaction-cast death ward with 3rd-level spells - very helpful for surviving in battle.

[Ranger] Weapon - Shadow Trace

This weapon was initiated from an image I had of a trident passing through rays of sun spearing through a cave, appearing and disappearing as it passes between darkness and light. I think this one is workable in a real game - one advantage per turn if your characters are absolute gamers and much less if the enemies are smart. You could consider a trident is a suboptimal damage choice compared to others for the ranger.

Shadows drip from this weapon like thick heavy...

[Ranger] Weapon - Daybreak

I really like floating things in a design and I couldn't miss this opportunity. Because this is a bow of a celestial ranger, you can even see the tiny diamonds shapes that indicates the Aureliate gods. In designing weapon properties, I wanted to give Rangers a similar damage versatility as Paladin's smites, so this works. The difference here is that the spell slot is expended before an attack that may miss, but damage is higher.

[Ranger] Weapon - Equilibrium

Next up is the Cogwork Marshals, explorers of the lawful planes. This bow is actually a shieldbow, a unique weapon type I'm experimenting with (I played Runescape πŸ˜…). This weapon functions much like a longbow; it grants a +1 bonus to AC in exchange for a 5-fold reduction to range, making it chiefly a closer-range tankier ranger option.

I'm a little unsure about Equivalent Exchange, but in my mind it really equals to negating advantage with a few caveats - a little harder to capitaliz...

[Ranger] Weapon - Stormcall

New month! I have to say I was a lil surprised the Ranger book made a comeback but boy am I excited. More bows, a couple arrows, and more for the class that needs the most love. Though this month is ranger-focused, I did my best to make some of them branch out to other appropriate classes. These first couple items will theme around several conclaves of rangers, starting with the Storm Speakers, culminating with a superbow.

This item was supposed to come out Monday, but it's actually a p...

[Divine] NPC - Divine Champion (of the Aureliate)

If you need an Aureliate god antagonist, here they are. At minimum, this champion will work for any god and will be a moderately strong encounter, but things get very interesting once you bring in the legendary actions. The legendary actions are designed to reflavor this champion to a scion of their god - the first one grants it a combat-long buff for their god, and the others improve their combat prowess. Each one has movement and attack legendary actions, which will stack with thei...

[Compendium] - Divine Favors

I had initially only planned for 20 or so pages in this compendium but somehow it grew to 33! Again this number is always intended to go down to 20 for a more stable work-life balance. I just couldn't resist for this one since there are ten gods (one for each damage type), and each one needed an artifact and at least one page of info.

Anyways, this is super fun to flesh out and I had a fun time writing a bit of irony into each god. For example, Vordin the God of Storms/Destiny/Freedom i...

Fun fact - Palarok actually shows up in Unearthed Gems in an item called Palarok's Tears, which is a volcanic mineral. As such, Palarok is now the god of fire and creation - but instead of the typical hammer imagery, I wanted it feel more like crafting things from clay - with hands.

I love black and gold combos. The black iron material makes it seem powerful and equally ominous. The destroy condition is fun too - recalls the tryst established in the Winter Crown compendium betw...
