end of 2023 post!

hello, it's the end of 2023 so this is a summary of everything game-devvy i did this year...!

it was a busy year for me since i quit my job at the end of march to be a fully indie dev starting april. i was able to make this decision largely because of having your patreon support here, so thank you!! i'm still figuring things out to try to find a good balance for myself but i think i'm doing ok so far (: 

now, to list things up chronologically...

new game: snack machine change

my last game of 2023 is out! (my second & likely last game to be made in unity...!)

snack machine change is a 10-minute story about a boy who is waiting at the hospital for his sister's check-up to be finished.

this game has actually been done for a while since i made it for a short game collection that hasn't come out yet... but i've decided to release it ahead of the short game collection release because the game was made in unity & i want to stop using unity by 2024. 

so here is snack machine change! 

download codes have been sent out & i plan on releasing the full game later this week.

edit: THE CRASHES HAVE BEEN FIXED (i think!) i managed to update the app by reverting to apk instead of app bundle because google play's app bundle check process is broken right now (:

december update!

it's the end of the year! 2023 has been a lot & i am glad it is coming to an end, to be honest.

for this month, my plans...

  • releas a new game! this is not exactly true - or well, it is new, but this game was made quite a while back. it's going to be my second but also probably final unity game. i'll post more about it when it's ready to be released, but it's this game which i posted about last year in June  2023-12-06 04:05:14 +0000 UTC View Post

(i still feel very strong imposter syndrome about calling myself a dev but stuff like this encourages me & makes me feel a bit more like it's ok for me to keep making games, as does your support here ♥)

this month's postcard was actually originally supposed to be a game that i wanted to make with mouse psd, but i couldn't figure out a good way to implement the mechanics i wanted... (the idea was that i wanted to have the date progress as you moved dialogue boxes off the screen, but there was no good place to put all the dialogue i wanted)

douZINE#3 is out now!!!!!!

as per the title!!!

issue 3 includes 5 games as usual but also 1 long interview with zep of Lexaloffle Games, a kichijoji-based game designer who created PICO-8 and has an event/coworking space called Pico Pico Cafe!

Marron's Day steam page is out!!!!!!!!!

as per title!!!!! i have been dealing with steam trying to make capsule images for like the past forever and it has been miserable but it is finally out!! the page is up! look at the cute capsule art i made for it in all the weird very specific sizes that steam requires that can't really be reused on any other site because the sizes are too specific and useless!

for ludum dare 54 i made an underwater train-catching game with friends!! you can play it right in your browser (though if you have performance issues i recommend downloading!)

this time i worked on story and art and i'm very happy with how it turned out. it's just really fun to play. see how far you can get in endless mode!!

it's september now! it's still really hot out but i'm trying to persevere through the awful weather 💦

here are my plans for this month:

  • marron game!!!!!!!! since i was working on pet shop update a lot last month i didn't get much done on this... i'm still working to port it to gb studio 3.0 and it's VERY SLOW & TEDIOUS work! this is going to be my main focus again for now
  • trying to release some more games on gog! right now i only have A YEAR OF SPRINGS on gog...
