Weekend Watching

It’s getting cold and dark here in the Northern Hemisphere—any Southern Hemisphere folks around to brag about the coming summer? What is tickling your fancy this week? I’m catching up on Curtain Call and then finishing Tharn Type 2 Before beginning my very anticipated re-watch of CLOY.

They Can’t All Be Winners

What is a drama you watched in 2022 where you feel like …”I wish I had those hours back”. Share the drama that didn’t delight you.

Mine is a tie between Cafe Minamdang and The Sound of Magic.

Favorite Drama of the Year

Can you call your favorite drama of 2022? I was pretty sure I was going with Our Blues, but then All of Us Dead snuck in and ate my brain—so it gets my 2022 crown. You?

I AM UPSET

Okay so something happened on Twitter and bear with me because I'm fragile over this. Someone said... I can't even type this... someone said THAT LEE DONG WOOK CAN'T EMOTE.

*deep breath, Megan*

Please soothe my feelings by posting your favorite Lee Dong Wook scene. Or Lee Dong Wook anything. Just let's share some LDW love.

Weekend Watch

Who is watching what? I have to catch up with Love is For Suckers but I am candidly going to be bathing in RM content for his new solo album Indigo. His tiny desk concert looks amazing. Also - soccer of course! Way to go to South Korean team today! Who are ya’ll cheering for or sad to see go?

What won’t you miss

I reread my conversation with Megan last night and it made me laugh. She had high fever yesterday and was like “don’t worry I can still podcast.”

I truly wasn’t sure if it was delirium talking.

But she was all “No, this something I won’t miss unless I’m actively dying.”

So that’s how much Megan loves us and you.

What is something that you will show up for as long as you aren’t bleeding out or hooked to life support?

Baby Bin-Jin!

Congratulations to Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin on the birth of their son! Maybe it’s because CLOY was my(Amy) first drama, or maybe it’s just because I love when a couple is magnetic on screen and then I find out the chemistry was REAL, but it makes me sooooo happy that they are a couple. Anyone else feel the same? Are there other Kdrama celeb couples that make you all warm and fuzzy to know they get an HEA on and off screen?

Wawa

We interrupt our regularly schedule content to bring you Amy in Florida channeling some Megan/Pennsylvania energy. If you've listened to multiple episodes of the pod, then you've likely heard mention of the PA staples, Wawa and Sheetz. The way that Megan has described them, I've always thought, "Okay, it's like a gas station mini mart." But apparently Wawa is SOOO much more. Enjoy. We did. ;)

My Elevator is Going Down

I got up at 5am to watch South Korea vs Ghana in the World Cup. So let me say it was a fun match, very exciting. Let me also say both teams were not…ahem…unattractive. Truly the eye candy in these games is globally wonderful.

But, the stand out player today, Cho Gue-Sung, come on! Does he have to look this fine AND be twenty-four? My elevator has gone down again and I need it to stop. I don’t want to see what’s on the lower floors for my own morals and sanity.

Too much Turkey brain…I’m late to post!

What is everyone watching? I’m caught up on Curtsin Call. I’m honestly not sure where it’s going - or if the love situation is going where I want it - but I’m really enjoying. Kang Ha Neul is perfectly cast in this. I have to catch up on Love is For Suckers and otherwise I’m in the market for recs! There are a lot of good choices so I’m all ears…

A Moment of Gratitude

Here in the US we are gearing up to celebrate Thanksgiving—a holiday that celebrates family and giving and also is rooted in a troubling legacy. No matter if you celebrate or don’t or don’t live in this country…I think gratitude is something we can all benefit from practicing regularly.

I know Megan, Amy and I are deeply grateful for all of you and it is constantly energizing and humbling to connect with everyone on the power of shared joy.

So I’m not letting anyone go w...

Expectation vs Reality

Someone raised this question on Instagram and it was a good one…what is a drama title (English translation is fine here) that didn’t really express what the drama is about in any way shape or form.

Weekend Watching

What is everyone watching? I finished Little Women the night before we recorded this week lol. Then I finished Love is In the Air which is a smoking hot, seriously sweet Thai BL that I can’t rec enough. I’m back to Love is for Suckers and debating what else— considering Curtain Call. Has anyone started it—thoughts?

HELLO

(This is Megan) I am so sorry I haven't posted yet this week. I went to a writing conference in Houston last week and got home Sunday, and my brain is exploding with stuff. I also had to cram Little Women since we were recording Tuesday. So all that to say I'm here now! My brain is working again.

Speaking of Little Women, we mentioned on the pod that it is a bit of a makjang, which is a type of show that's basically over the top with premises that are unbelievable. For the record,...

Happy (belated) Birthday to Lauren!

Hi everyone! Amy here. Apologies for my tardiness, and I swear I'm going to get better at this now that I have the Google Form sending me notifications...

But we would like to wish a very, very, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to LAUREN, whose bday was on the 3rd. In honor of Song Joong Ki's cameo in Little Women (blink, and you'll miss it...), here he is to wish you the happiest of birthdays. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAUREN!

Also, if you'd like your birthday added to the birthday calenda...

No Pod Wednesday

For the first time since we launched Afternoona Delight in February 2021….we aren’t putting out a podcast tomorrow. As Korea is in national mourning over the Itaewon disaster, it didn’t feel right to put our planned show to air. We are respecting the mourning period and will resume regularly scheduled content next week.

We continue to send love to all those impacted by this terrible tragedy.

Whose Line Is It

I know that for most of us we are watching Kdrama with subtitles…but what is a line or conversation in a drama that has stayed with you?

I have a lot but one is from Misaeng which is one of my favorite dramas, spoken by character Han Seok-ryul (one of my favorite actors Byun Yo Han):

What do you think the life is? You think it’s a big queston? It’s simple. A collection of your choices is your life. The choices you make in each moment makes up the quality of yo...

Happy Halloween

What is your favorite spooky movie (Korean or not)?

Fun fact: My son and I are extras in the Jordan Peele horror movie US. You can see us flying a kite on the beach when the two families are meeting up for ocean time outside the boardwalk lol.

Unburden Yourself

We all have big feels about dramas. Good or bad...don't keep it inside. Pop it in the thread. It's good for your health :)

Pro tip:

If you need to do a spoiler about a show...put the name of the drama and SPOILER in all caps so ppl know to skip if needed.

How Many Have you Watched?

Love when I see appreciation for K-Drama in Western media. This Marie Claire article is great, especially for those just getting into K-drama and looking for something new. They even have the dramas categorized by genre. I (Amy) have seen 27 of the 63 supposedly bingeable dramas. I say supposedly because of the 27 I've seen, not all make my bingeable list, and that's okay. We like what we like. How many have you seen? What would you add to the list?
