House of Hellish Harlots - Update Nov 30th

Just a quick update as I've mostly been away this Fri and Sat (although I will have most of Sunday to catch up).

This week I finished all the dialogue for The Portly Gentleman (aka NPC Money), implemented it and tested it.  The NPCs have been slightly awkward to implement because of my stubborn desire to make the dialogue natural and avoid the one-brainless-line problem common to RPGs, and The Portly Gentleman was no exception (although I think I'm getting the hang of what the gene...

Plans for next "House of Hellish Harlots" release

Last week I got the first big demo of "House of Hellish Harlots" out.  I hope you've been enjoying playing that.

After that I had a brief pause to get my head back together and also do mundane necessities such as file my taxes for the year. Now I'm back working on the next chunk of the game.  This is what I want to do for the next release:

Bug Fixes.
Some minor errors in the last release need to be fixed.  So far that's a mix-up with gift ids with Anna Boa and so...

New demo of "House of Hellish Harlots" (ver0.006) - It's Here!

Still fighting winter lurgy, but I've managed to get a new demo of "House of Hellish Harlots" ready.

The first release demonstrated a skeleton of the main game loop as proof-of-concept.  The second added the first harlot to give an indication of what the scenarios would be like.

This release has quite a bit of new content (but is also nowhere near the finished game).  I'll go over the additions here.

First is the addition of a pair of NPCs.

The Madam is alr...

House of Hellish Harlots - Update 9th Nov

Slower progress than I would have liked this week.  A few winter bugs floating around, so I've been under the weather.

The spider girl harlot, who I can now reveal is called Arana Solfugis, has been implemented and tested.  She's in and a lot of you will likely meet your ends in her vagina.

I had a slight held up with the lamia, Anna Boa, but her scene is now written and half typed up.  I should have her implemented and tested by the end of the weekend.

House of Hellish Harlots - Update 1st Nov '19

End of the week, also the start of a new month.  It's time for another update.

Most of this week was spent working on The Elegant Woman.  She's the "Gossip" NPC.  Her role is to impart hints and information on all the harlots (for a price).  While getting sexily Bad Ended by a gorgeous succubus is a fun part of the game, I didn't want it to be too unfair and just trial and error.  The Elegant Woman is there to give a few pointers for players that would like to w...

House of Hellish Harlots - Update 19.10.26

In keeping with my desire to keep to vaguely regular updates, here's where I am at the moment.  As I said last time, I want to release harlot scenarios in clumps rather than one-at-a-time to avoid them getting solved too quickly and ending up as "dead weight" in later versions.

As a reminder, this is what I want to get done for the next demo release:

- Player personality stats.
- Setting player mindset on entering the harlot's room functionality.
- NPC Madam.
- NPC G...

House of Hellish Harlots - Thoughts on Player Stats

Oddly, this is one aspect of the game I haven't nailed down yet.

Player stats in HoHH work differently than in the previous CYOA scenarios I've posted.  They can influence a harlot encounter, but the outcomes aren't stated directly to a player.  Because there will be so many hidden influences on a scenario, I felt having random stat check rolls in there would make it too difficult for the player to pick apart what stat, gift, or other thing was causing them to get their soul s...

House of Hellish Harlots - Working on Madam NPC and 2 scenarios

No demo release this week.  Normally I don't like doing updates without releases, but given my unfortunate habit of sometimes fading out of existence, I thought I'd try to put out more regular posts to keep people up to date of where I'm at, especially as I'm still fired up on this.  (I might hit icebergs later, but currently I'm very happy with how things appear to be slotting into place.)

Currently I'm in the middle of working on the Madam NPC and two scenarios.

The 1st Harlot - Sapoonismenos Nerei

Work on "House of Hellish Harlots" is still going quite well.  Last time I showed off a rough prototype of the main game loop.

Now it's time to introduce the first harlot - Sapoonismenos Nerei.

I created and added her scenario.  This should give you a better idea of where the sex stuff is slotting into this little sex game.

The raw text for her scenario came in at around 3K words.  This seems about right for an early(ish) encounter.  Not as complex as the...

Prototype game loop of "House of Hellish Harlots"

"Enthusiasm time" has been... quite productive.

I liked the idea I had for "House of Hellish Harlots", but wasn't sure if I could sling it together in Twine.  It isn't just a typical branching story with the odd stats check, so I knew I needed to dig into objects, arrays, and various bits of 'proper' coding.  None of this is overly complex, but for someone like me who is more used to languages like C# and Java, Twine definitely has some quirks with how it handles objects and f...

End of September Update

As I said in a previous post, bit of a weird month.  At the start I thought I was doing a standalone CYOA scenario (to include in future "House of Hellish Harlots"), then it turned into working on some half-finished short stories (resulting in the 1st draft of one being completed), and finally I had a burst of inspiration on what the core gameplay loop for "House of Hellish Harlots" should be.

The last one has sent me deep into the guts of Twine and tossing various objects and arra...

More on that "House of Hellish Harlots" brainstorming

I mentioned it at the end of the last post, so here's a bit more on how the "House of Hellish Harlots" brainstorming is going.

The original idea has changed a few times.  I plotted out the intro thinking it would be the start to a gamebook along similar lines to Fighting Fantasy's "House of Hell".  When I implemented it in Twine I was thinking it would be the introduction to a framing device to hold the "Escape the [monster girl]" scenarios.

The ide...

Many-Eyed Hydra in other places, random Game Dev musings, and September progress

Before I launch into more fiction analysis and (hopefully good) writing tips, I thought I'd let people know I also do updates on my blog and twitter.  I'm sure most of you probably know this already, but I thought I'd throw this out just in case some of you didn't.

The blog: www.manyeyedhydra.com

I'm pretty iffy at the social media side of things, so I tend to be a little sporadic.  For a while I neglected the blog.  I'm trying to get a...

Dissecting a Succubus - "The Good, the Bad, and the Monstrous Beauty"

Time for another succubus dissection as I do the author's commentary thing for the last short story I put out – "The Good, The Bad, and the Monstrous Beauty".  Although in this case, it wasn't exactly a "short" story, in that it clocked in at over 11K words!  As always, there will be spoilers, so go and read the story first.  You should be able to pick it up in the previous post.

I broke a few rules (or rather, what I consider to be rules) writing this one, but I'll mov...

New Short Story - "The Good, the Bad, and the Monstrous Beauty"

And we got there!  Just before the end of the month.

Yep, still took a little longer than I'd like, but it's over freaking 11,000 words.  I really should learn to rein my succubi in.

*glances over at succubi*

N-n-no.  That's fine.  You can have your fun.

It's another self-contained succubus short story.  I know some people would rather I worked on series-type works like Succubus Summoning, but I'm still trying to write myself back into form...

Okay, yes, I got it wrong again.  I thought I was nearly done with "The Good, the Bad, and the Monstrous Beauty," but then I ended up with another succubus that really liked to play with her food.  I may have gotten carried away again.

I've just finished typing it up and it comes in at just over 11K words.  That's a little... uh... longer than I was planning.

Normally, I'd leave it on the side for a week and then come back later to edit it.  But I really want t...

New(ish) Story - "Let Sleeping Beauties Lie"

Still working on "The Good, the Bad, and the Monstrous Beauty".  As with most things these days, hit a slight block near the end of the story.  Only a temporary one, I'm far enough along with the story that I'll jump it over that last hurdle fairly soon.  Rather than be an idiot and bash my head fruitlessly against a wall, I switched projects onto something else to clear my head.

(Okay, there was some fruitless bashing of my head against a wall.  I'm still a bit of ...

Not the greatest month.

Sorry for looking like I might have gone AWOL.  Stuff came up and it turned out trying to bash some old H-space monster girl bestiary short stories into better shape was harder than it looked.  They're still not ready.  I'll start throwing them out as extras once I'm happy with them.

The current short story hit a similar problem of getting so far and then sticking.  I think I'm over the hump now and that will be ready fairly soon. &nbs...

Ideas File - Summer Festivals

Seems like summer has finally arrived to the UK, as in it's hot and the pollen count is so high I feel like I have a miniature slime-drooling alien stuffed up each nostril.  The Glastonbury music festival was just last weekend and wasn't the traditional soggy mud bath.  I wasn't there.  Heavy metal is more my jam, so I was at the Download festival a couple of weeks earlier.  That was a soggy mud bath.  It did give me a couple of summer-y ideas (by UK standards, if the...

H-space Files: The Pauxillum Constupros

Here's a bit of background and worldbuilding on the Pauxillum Constupros, the 'goblins' of the "The Banquet of the Queen of the Goblins".  It's not the first time I've used them.  They cropped up in the orgy scene in an earlier short story, "Trent the Traitor", as goblins with little pointed dicks.  The purpose of that scene was to show H-space also has male sex monsters as well as the regular succubi and monster girls, even if I don't really write about them.

The Pauxill...

Dissecting a Succubus - "The Banquet of the Queen of the Goblins"

Time for some background notes on "The Banquet of the Queen of the Goblins".  I won't be going into quite as much detail this time!  Obviously, there will be spoilers, so you might want to read the story first – it can be found a couple of posts back.

(I should probably figure out how to put the stories in their own section so they're easy to find!)

This one was fairly straightforward.  It was another 'monster girl first' story.  I saw the Shiki-esque carnivo...

Dissecting a Succubus - "Joey Farrell Walks into an Obvious Booby Trap" (pt 3)

Ever have the feeling you've forgotten something…

Yup.  I was about to do a behind-scenes piece for "The Banquet of the Queen of the Goblins", when I remembered I hadn't finished doing the one for the story before that.  In my defence, I've been bunged up pretty badly for the past week or so with one of the various nasty flu bugs floating around.

Back to where we were.  I was writing a behind-scenes look at my previous short story – "Joey Farrell Walks into an O...

New Short Story - "The Banquet of the Queen of the Goblins"

And it's here.

Yup, a little (lot) later than planned.  I should probably not write so many words on these things, but it is fun to get carried away.

This is the carnivorous plant girl story I started a while back.  The monster girl was inspired by a monster girl in "Domination Quest - Kuro and the Naughty Monster Girls".  The story is mine.  It's another that makes use of the H-space setting (but no mysterious Stewart Peter Bate, so it's more in line with my o...

Update on Carnivorous Plant Girl story

Okay, not going to lie.  This ended up being a right royal pain to write up.  When I offered up protagonist naming rights back in, ugh, that far, I had the first draft mostly done.  Typing up the second draft is usually the straightforward part for me.  And then, for this one, it wasn't...

Not sure what went wrong.  I suspect my first draft was probably worse than I realised.  Then once it went beyond the time I thought I'd have it done in, really slow pro...

Introducing "The House of Hellish Harlots"

Firstly, apologies for another lengthy period of quietness.  I ran into a fairly severe productivity slump on the second draft of the carnivorous plant girl story and had to change things up for a while rather than plowing on at measly couple-of-hundred words a day (it is still being worked on - more on that in a follow-up post).

Of the side projects I busied myself with, the one that won the race to have something to show for it was this one.

Dissecting a Succubus - "Joey Farrell Walks Into An Obvious Booby Trap" (pt2)

And part 2 of the author's commentary on my recent boobie monster girl story, "Joey Farrell Walks Into An Obvious Booby Trap."  There will likely be spoilers, so make sure to read the story first.

First part was designing the monster.  The second part is how to fit characters and story around her.

Given what Oppa is, the idea I had was for her to be part of some form of trap.  While chasing after a warlock, the protagonist would inadvertently activate the trap and f...

Right, after a chaotic (very) couple of months at chez Hydra, I have finally typed up that boob monster girl story.  It's currently lying at 8,000 words.  What I normally do at this point is leave the story on the side for around a week while I carry on working on other stuff.  The reason for this is so that when I come to edit it, it's with fresh eyes and I stand a better chance at spotting the inevitable mistakes (this is a great tip for any writer who isn't able to obtain th...
