Base coat = done

Hey friends, so today I didn't do that much in terms of modelling, instead I've been already editing the video and making some video thumbnails.

Basically I only added the repainted stars and added some different OD tones on the stowage.

Stars were first airbrushed using a photoetched stencil from Lion Roar (one of those things you buy and use like once or twice) and then veeeeeery carefully sprayed the diffused outline. This had to be done without any stencil and it was pro...

Almost there

Hey friends, so today I finished the OD distressing... played around with the same tones like yesterday, just in a more controlled manner, pretty much like a typical post-shading, but with some texture.

Not gonna lie, I seriously wanted to leave the concrete "unpainted" ๐Ÿ˜ But decided against it... first of all it wouldn't make sense, second photos show that it was overpainted, and third there's another project I'd like to do which had unpainted concrete all over it (hint hint, ...

Distressing!

Hey friends, finally back at the workbench!

I did a couple of initial distressing layers... it took way longer than on the T-90 ๐Ÿ˜These are the first 2 layers - the lightest one at the bottom, and then the "medium" one on top.

Now you might notice that the turret roof is a little softer. I made a few goofs there so I fixed them with a very light coat of the first light layer, which I then chipped like usual... and that's kind of the effect I'll be doing tomorrow on t...

Video will be done tonight!

Hey friends! Sorry for a bit of a delay, the Sherman video will be 20 minutes long and I'm still editing it - but it will be done tonight. I had a little family visit over the weekend so that's mainly why it got delayed.

I'll be back again with another update - this time with some paints - tomorrow!

Hope you had a great weekend and also welcome all new Patrons - I'll be refunding those of you who joined a day or two before the beginning of this month, because Patreon c...

Finally!

Things worked out perfectly today! The Tamiya jerry can set arrived just in time.

I also printed some stuff, and modelled some stuff - 30. cal ammo cans and some generic wooden boxes. The 30. cal ammo boxes didn't print very well, so I kept them kinda out of sight.

Tarps are made out of paper, with the aid of VMS paper shaper. That thing is like a magic potion, it softens the paper so it can be folded in any way without creating any sharp "breaks". It also acts as glue...

HD pics

Hey friends, I was editing a video today, so here are at least some big pics of the cast texture on the turret.

I'll probably do some 3D modelling tonight so the first thing in the morning will be to hit export and print ๐Ÿ˜

Final details?

Alright, I think this will do...

The tool straps are quite simplified, and PE would be definitely better, but I guess it's better than nothing, and it's also one of those details that's pretty simple to do.

The wire handles on the engine deck were so hard to do ๐Ÿ˜ฑ removing the plastic ones required a lot of precision, too much for my taste and I originally wanted to leave them as they were... so I left them for the very end.

Anyway, apart from that I just added...

Late update!

Oh my, I'm running a bit late... this is progress from yesterday ๐Ÿ˜Š + some reference pictures which I used as "loose inspiration", just to show that yeah, this was an actual thing ๐Ÿ˜‰

I textured the concrete with Tamiya putty, this is probably the most textured texture I've done so far ๐Ÿคฃ I kept the sides smoother though, because I think these were cast using wooden planks or pieces of sheet metal.

Also glued every detail in place, added some welds, drilled out the drai...

CHONKMASTER 9000

There he is! Sherman got a little chonky today.

It's frankly surprising how long the entire process took! I remember trying to build this same subject many years ago from a Hobby Boss Easy 8 and I just slapped a ton of epoxy putty on the hull, carved it into shape with a hobby blade and called it a day after like 2 hours. Needless to say, I never finished it.

Because of that, I have very little amount of Magic Sculpt left and therefore I had to take a more sparing approach, so I b...

Busy weekend

It was busy indeed!

Yesterday I was finally able to meet some of my extended family as the lockdown has been finally lifted in Slovakia, but I also managed to texture the turret and also film a video about it... there's more than just putty over there ๐Ÿ˜ Not sure if I'll make it into separate video, but I'd like to. I had a slight headache in the evening so I just went to bed, so that's why I didn't post an update. I'm sorry for that.

Today it was pouring the entire ...

It's taking shape!

Good late evening friends, and welcome new patrons!

Here's some progress from today, got the running gear assembled (it'll remain glued to the model) and I assembled the main parts. Also did some texturing, for example I realized that the molded-on weld beads are actually fairly nice, they just need a bit of texturing, so I won't be replacing them with new ones - but I'll be definitely adding all the missing ones, that's for sure. Also, the size of the tank is just perfect! <...

Let the new project begin!

So, after exporting the diorama video twice, adding credits to tomorrow's video and uploading two vids on Youtube, I also started building the Sherman, and compared to Revell, it's pure heaven ๐Ÿคค

After Tamiya gave up on those metal lower hulls for "realistic weight", they still refuse to swallow their own pride and so they supply these newer 1/48 tanks with metal weights (they're rods in this kit, but the Abrams for example has rectangular slabs), and although I think the concept is p...

Yes! Done!

Well my dear friends, this easy, simple, quick, fun, hilarious project has come to an end!

I'll most likely spend the next 2 days editing the video, so I'll only post some HD pics in the meantime.

One thing I'd like to say is that making this base made me kinda pumped... so how about a base for the Sherman Easy 8? A muddy country road in Germany? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

It was a busy weekend, but we're almost there!

Good late evening friends!

Sorry for not updating you yesterday, I did some work, but I almost fell asleep on the workbench so I went right to bed afterwards ๐Ÿ˜†If the weather wasn't so nice I would probably do more work, but you know, yer ol' uncle has to take a day off from time to time!

But that stuff aside, I pretty much painted the entire base and got it ready for weathering. Well, weathering in this case means just some Aqualine dust and some of those orange-ish darke...

We're ready for some paints!

Hey friends!

I think the base is ready for painting. Looking back at the previous post, it has changed a lot! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

As you can see I worked on every section - the road, the hill, and the lower corner.

The road was very "grainy" after fixing that 0.25mm gravel yesterday, so I gave it another coat of very diluted textured earth, which created a very nice compacted ground look (even though my goal was loose sand, but whatever ๐Ÿ˜†). Textured earth was also used to bu...

BASE!

Hey friends!

So today, a base was born ๐ŸคฃIt's still in the initial stages though and there's a lot more to add.

I started by cutting a block of styrofoam on a circular saw, then I made the rough shape of the terrain with a knife, and then covered it with an initial layer of texture (Ammo diorama mud paste). While it was drying I brushed Mr. Surfacer 500 in two layers on the sides to remove the foam texture. I think one more layer would be good, but I somehow like th...

This just arrived

Hey friends!

Some new tools arrived today ๐Ÿ˜Š

I've seen these scribing chisels in Gunpla videos and they seem very handy. The one major downside of Tamiya scriber is that the deeper you go, the wider the groove becomes. These should make nice, even grooves no matter how deep you go. Their quality might be questionable, but only time will tell.

I'll try them out on the Sherman Easy 8!

Also, the video is almost done, I'll finish it today and tomorrow we're b...

And we're done

Hello friends!

First of all, I'm sorry for being offline yesterday. Had a pretty busy day, slept only about 4 hours, then went to buy another bike and then of course went for a ride, resulting in me dropping dead in my bed very early.

So of course I wanted to compensate that lazy Sunday and spent the entire day at the workbench today... and as a result, I think the T-90 is finished. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I find it pretty hard to work non-stop during these final stages because I feel like the...

How about THAT

Aqualine dust doing its job ๐Ÿ˜Now the tank is properly dirty!

Well, at least the hull. The thing is, today we had a birthday party so I only managed to work on the model in the evening. I was properly tired towards the end of the session so I decided to leave the turret for tomorrow. I might use some dust colored oil paint as well, because Aqualine isn't the easiest thing to control on satin and complex surfaces!

On the other hand, I think the model won't need any ex...

How about that

Time to get back to using real earth ๐Ÿ˜Š But this time for a slightly different effect. Sure, there's the usual dust and dirt build-up, but also rubble! If you paint each clump with acrylic colors, it pretty much looks like broken pieces of cinderblocks, concrete or bricks. I've used this method once on a 1/35th scale T-62 and it didn't look that good when compared to a T-72 I did later where I used actual gravel, broken pieces of plaster and cast bricks. But in 72nd scale... I believe it wo...

ooooohhhhh

Now this was a lot of work! But we're now ready for earth effects!

So the most obvious part - I still suck at painting stowage ๐Ÿ˜… Sandbags are pretty bad, but it's honestly all I've got at the moment. They were painted with oils, but they'll be definitely weathered as the rest of the tank so I hope I'll make them look a bit better.

The dust shroud around the gun mantlet went better, because it's more wrinkled, again painted with oils and I actually kept it in the tank's co...
