I bought a Nintendo 3ds off of a twenty year old kid in a gas station parking lot two days ago.
Look, you live your life how you want to and I'll live mine how I want to. Also, I hope that someone made it this far thinking that Mike was writing this.
Anyway, I bought the 3ds because I wanted to try A Link Between Worlds, a Zelda game I had always heard great things about but never knew anyone with the system to try it out on. (I guess my friends don't hang out with teens in gas st...

On the last episode we talked about some comics, well here they are!
The one with all the talking is the Chris Claremont panel, more information can be found on that here and the Claremont Coefficient (aka Kudzu Plot) is 2020-01-15 22:45:53 +0000 UTC

A shocking Very Special Episode! A first in the history of the podcast, possibly a first for any podcast!
The smelly, repugnant, filth-caked, farm-animal-of-a-girl Elora is discussed at length which leads to not one BUT two shocking bathroom tales from Mike and Conor! (Can you get that from Conan's podcast, I think not?!)
All the departments are here, and it's just possible that Mike is hitting his stride in Real or Fanfic.
Plus: We discuss the appearance in Shadow Moon of a...

Happy new year everyone! A new decade has dawned and we are still reading Shadow Moon. In this segment, to the author's credit, some stuff actually happens! Unfortunately what happens is that a nude otter-man crashes through the roof of a tavern and the sacred princess takes a dump.
Fortunately, we're able to gain more insight into the dynamic between our two authors via the magic of secret dark web recordings. We'll also discuss with asperity Clucas's new word fascination, "implacable"...

Here are my long awaited Top Ten Tekwar cards 51-100!

The art on these cards, for the most part, plas-sucks, but I truly enjoyed this homage to Mark Trail's Fists of Justice ( ™ Josh Fruhlinger)

Full proof that this podcast has broken my brain, I went to the beer store on Christmas Eve (During the DAY, I'm not like Mr. Welch on It's A Wonderful Life) and while looking for something tasty, discovered this Trucking Through Time themed beer. I did not buy it because a four pack was like over $18, but I did think of you all. Hope your Christmas was Merry and your New Year will be happy! We'll be back soon!

Mike and Conor have a pretty straightforward discussion about how Thorn née Willow formerly "the floor" kinda sorta transforms into The Demon / A Dragon / Some Stones / a Liquid Mass of His Own Melted Organs / Some Shards / A Mountain / a Swimmer / a Fish, etc., and in that state puffs air into the demon's daughter who may or may not be Elora, and then, as he has done several times before, looks around the castle, gets pulverized, crushed, bloody, turns into one searing mass of unbearable ag...

I'm only a few pages in to this week's reading and just a few questions spring to mind. E.g., can anyone tell me who in the name of Fillmore Crank* any of these people are?!?!
- Kieron Dineer
- Consort to the Veil Lord
- Queen Magister of the Realms Beyond
- Cherlindrea herself
- the Troubadour who’d spoken to him on the esplanade
- the burgher
*Bonus points if you can identify this person: it's pretty obscure and I only learned about...

It's been an abundance of riches in terms of insanely good art that would be impossible to comprehend for anyone who doesn't religiously listen to this podcast. This latest one is Lucas Antoniak's twist on Baby Yoda. They really miscalculated how popular BY would be so it's hard to find gifts of him anywhere, so why not get your loved ones Baby Chuckette the Inflatable Rig Cow!

I would like to apologize to Mike Nelson. Since my supposed mispronunciation of Magus were made public, jackals have descended on him and his family. Leaving the house for a cup of coffee has turned into a horrible ordeal. If only he could turn into a floor and be left in peace. Mike is a good man who deserves better. Sure, he pronounces "Karaoke" weird and most of us just let it slide, but that is n...

Conor, I regret if you were offended when in episode four I corrected your pronunciation of "Magus". Mistakes were made, and I am informed that in some instances and circumstances pronunciations exist which seem to align more with your idiosyncratic way of voicing it than mine.
I understand and am taking steps to learn. I now know that some people are more sensitive, have less control and self-esteem and can be damaged when others point out their obvious flaws.
Well, l...

A jam-packed episode made all the more thrilling because Mike's computer crashed twice while making it. Was it ensorcelled by a HardDriveHeron with CrashCharms? We may never know.
What else? Pretty straightforward, nothing really stands out -- Oh, wait: Willow becomes a floor. I think that's pretty self-explanatory.

Listener, and Patreon support Matt Nelson drew custom Llamacorns for all our books. Incredible work. I think the Tekwar one is my favorite, but I really enjoy how the two Cline ones capture the slackjawed idiocy of the author, main characters, and intended audience.

I'm starting to lose the plot where Willow's powers are concerned and could use a little help, please. Here's my list: are there more (or fewer)?

- InSight
- MindSpeak
- OutSight
- Glamours both major and minor
- Passive charms
- Spitting blood on rocks and singing to mountains
- Singing to rocks to make them glow
- Having visions of women from the past being murdered on stone stairs

As mentioned in Episode 61, listener and Patreon supporter Christian sent me a complete set of TekWorld cards. Here are my ten favorite cards from the first fifty in the set.

Here we have Jake Cardigan, who resembles William Shatner as drawn by Rob Liefeld's loser brother Bart Liefeld. Jake is ambiguously described with a RollerGator-y coyness as "almost fifty." Kudos to card writer (and back-h...

Can Mike get a soild D or D- in Real or Fanfic? How's Thorn's stand-up routine (the dark web knows)? Can Conor pronounce "magus" any better than "Ogden"? What's the theoretical limit for a book's chapter length? Also:
- Pop quizzes
- Mail from you listeners
- Dumb sentences
- Minor glamours are cast

Ah, Shadow Moon... That's a name we haven't heard in a long time... Well, a week at least!
Join us as we continue our deep dive into the Lucas/Claremont saga "Shadow Moon". This section begins with a bunch of Death Dogs getting impaled, decapitated, and having various organs thrown into raging infernos. We'll debate whether Thorn/Willow (Thillow?)'s ability to do any magic that is required of the situation cheapens the drama (it does.) And we'll do our best to imitate what a Daiki...

I'm only half-way through the Reading and am struck by the Seeming randomness of the Use of proper nouns and capitalization, e.g.
- Wood of the Maker
- Death Dogs (of course)
- Power
- Great Hunt
- Call
- Scar
- InSight
- OutSight
- Shapers
NO caps for
- witchlights
- kilk-natch
- calming pass
- the mountains (which are evidently sentient and IMO deserve it)
- mindspeak...

I mentioned the Fanfic that Janelle wrote in the newest ep, but neglected to mention this amazing STICKERS that she sent me. Truly incredible work. I believe she's working to get them available in her store, and as Discord emotes. Maybe once she figures out a production of them we will run a giveaway as well. Until then, gaze upon them in jealousy!!!!

Step into the WillowVerse for our first discussion of George Lucas & Chris Claremont's "SHADOW MOON"! Things get sexy right off the bat, and never let up (if you consider descriptions of hair that is one color but has streaks of another color in it to be sexy. We do.)
We'll meet some of our favorite characters and quickly say goodbye to them. We'll be beset upon by verbal jugular japery on the par of "He who smelt it dealt it." And we'll likely confuse Death Dogs for Devil Dogs at l...

We're recording tomorrow afternoon, send us your fanfic, dumb sentences, and any other thoughts you might have about the first 50 pages of Shadow Moon!
I don't have the stats to bear this out, but the first Fanfic round might be the hardest for the writers. It's hard to identify the author's style, as well as the tropes that might emerge. BUT it's also the blankest possible canvas to trick Mike into thinking something might have a chance of happening. So embrace the challenge!

But this is an actual caught-in-the-moment photo of me watching Willow.
(Stay tuned for my completely fair, unemotional take on the movie and please be assured it's madness to think that my view of that would ever influence my take on the book, Shadow Moon.) --MJN

Sorry it took so long to get this to everyone. We're gonna read the first fifty pages and see how that works for a chunk. No natural place to break it up, in our trade paperback version we're gonna read until the line "Oh joy, that we have so much in common."

It's quite a feat to so blatantly rip off LOTR before the first word of the book. Looking forward to Willow's encounter with The Smaugster (rapping dragon with attitude AND baditude) and his estranged relatives the Backville-Sagginses.
