Beauties, I hope you are doing well. It took me a while again to create the Kickstarter page and I'm still not finished yet. I'm still thinking about the last "All-in-One" reward. I created this instead of the two brick reward since not really a lot people are interested to get two bricks. But I'm not 100% happy with it right now. So maybe I still change that reward completely.

🏆 FIRST COME FIRST SERVE REWARD

Beauties, I put a lot thoughts into the right extras for the limited "First Come First Serve" Kickstarter reward. I know a lot people are already happy with just a few extra stickers but that simply can't be the long-term goal. If you support one of my decks you should know that you also really get more for your money.

Design and printing errors

Just in case if you didn't know it yet - I'm a perfectionist. I don't get tired of mentioning it. :D I don't look at my deck designs just a few times before I send everything to the printing company. I spend days looking at files before they go out. But if you design 54 face cards, a back design, the tuck box plus extra ad-cards, then it happens that you'll find details in the final printed deck which weren't supposed to be like that.

Polyantha Court Cards

The court card faces from the Black Roses Lavender and Polyantha decks will look familiar if you already had the chance to check out the Blue Magic Edition. It's important for me to do a bit more customization on the courts. I think you deserve that when you spend your hard earned money for a deck of cards. Polyantha Playing Cards - one special detail

Black Roses Lavender Prototypes

The Black Roses Lavender MPC prototypes arrived today. Normally you get prototypes for a few reasons. First of all you wanna see how the finished deck looks like in your hands. So you can be 100% that everything is right. Then you may wanna use it to promote your deck.

Magnetic Brick Box Sample

Needless to say, what you can see on the photos is just a white sample box to calculate the exact size. But look at this beautiful thing. You get an idea of how the final box will look like.

I requested another sample since I'm not 100% happy with the size right now.
We are just talking about 2-3 mm (0.08 - 0.12 inches) which are too long on one side and too short on the other.

Magnetic Black Roses bricks

Beauties, I hesitated way too long if I should produce them or not. Simply because it's a very expensive thing to produce. But I always try to improve things and this is simply the next level. What you can see in the image is just a mock up but I contacted a company today who can produce magnetic brick boxes with an UV Black Roses logo on the top.

How to reconstruct a vintage court card

I just finished the last court card for the Dondorf Playing Cards and I wanted to share with you the process.

One question I get asked a lot is what programs I use. The only program you really need is a program where you can create vector files. Adobe Illustrator is probably the best solution since everyone is using it and you don't get in trouble with a printing company since they also use the same program.

Dondorf Playing Cards - a few more details

Lately I have to fight with a lot mood swings so the progress that I've made on the Dondorf deck in the last two, three days was important to get a little sense of achievement.

In all my previous decks the flaps are nearly blank. So it was pretty fun to use this space to design something. The "Poker 52 Cards" text is slightly curved. Dondorf x Black Roses

The current delays at USPCC completely mess up my schedule. I thought about a summer Kickstarter launch. Normally enough months left to finish the deck. But with a production time of four months, the deck should normally go into production now.

I try to finish the Dondorf x Black Roses deck with the biggest respect for the original design. So you can imagine how much time I put into every detail. The worst thing would be to rush anything. So the deck is done when it's done.

Polyantha Playing Cards Tuck Box

Beauties, this is how the second edition Polyantha tuck box looks like. The tuck will get Air-Cushion finish as well. I would be a dream if the inside of the tuck would look the same but that is certainly beyond any budget. Nevertheless, at least I'll ask for the price. Without all these crazy delays right now at USPCC, inside print would be a beautiful stretch goal in a Kickstarter campaign.

Queen of Spades / How to draw a court card

Gina is the Queen of Spades in all my regular Black Roses decks. She was one of the first persons I met on Instagram, seven or eight years ago. Our contact became less frequent as time passed but her card is a nice memory for me of how it all began.

The Polyantha V2 Marking System

The explanation may look complicated but really just on the first glance.
You can read the deck by looking at the first four roses on the bottom left.

Every rose stem has four leaves. The first rose tells you the suit.

Only one leaf is bigger than the other three and you read it from left to right.

If the first leaf is bigger it's a ♠️
If the second leaf is bigger it's a ♥️
If the third leaf is bigger it's a ♣️
If the fourth leaf is bigger it's a ♦...

Underrated?

Lately I have seen a lot of comments that my cards would be underrated. You would not say that if you never noticed the quality and potential.  So I am glad that people think that.

But underrated measured by what?

Are there other companies who are more successful? Yes, that is not even a question. But it does not really bother me. You need to keep in mind that I am a "one-man company". We have a name

Beauties, it took me a while but "Black Roses Lavender" has grown on me.

For one second I thought about using the German word "Lavendel". That would fit to the titles of the Immergrün and Altrosa edition.

But I also love ambiguity in pronunciation Lavender / Love Ender - whatever that means :D it's open for interpretation.

This year I think I overused the option to print gaff cards on the two extra "ad cards" in a custom USPCC deck.
