So this week's song idea is a bit late... That's because I wasn't happy with the Aug 3 idea from last week and coming out of the session this week I still felt like the song idea was pretty weak. So I decided to spend some time revisiting progressive house in detail to refresh myself on the type of sound I want to go for in this genre. I spent way too much time on this idea for just a WIP idea (close to like 20 hours at this point haha), but it definitely shows and I'm really happy with the r...

First and foremost, thank you for your support here on Patreon!
This EP is a collection of 7 drum and bass songs that I've been working on over the last year (give or take). There are 7 total songs, including 5 new songs & 2 vocal songs. The standout song for me is "Introspect" because I wrote the vocal and originally sang it myself, but I felt it needed a better vocalist. I worked with Joel Winterflood and his voice really took my original vision to the next level!...

Earlier this year, I passed my original Patreon goal of $1,000/month and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for your support.
When I started with Patreon, I had no idea what would happen or if people would even be interested. Your support has given me the confidence to write better music, write more music, and take a some risks. Since January, I have been able to release 2 songs/month and many of those have been free to download. I’ve only be...

So this week's session did not go well... And to be honest, it's probably time I had a session or 2 like this because I was on a roll the last few months with some really good song ideas.
This month, I'm writing progressive house & the original idea I wrote during stream I don't particularly like. The melodies, chords, rhythms, and drums are pretty generic. If anything I'd save the lead synth group I made, but probably not much else.
At the end of the stream I got frus...

I'm super excited to finally announce a new 7-song EP that releases in 2 weeks titled "East of Switzerland"

This is a collection of drum and bass songs that I've been working off & on over the past year. Some songs have been posted here and some are brand new. Oh - and there's 2 new vocal songs with a couple of amazing vocalists (1 of which I wrote the...

For this one, I started out with a chord progression & melody that came naturally. When that happens - you just run with it. Over the next few hours I added some stripped down foley drums, other instrument layers, and a basic arrangement to get to this version.
During the initial session, I went back and forth on this idea. There's a lot to like here: some final fantasy influences, some old-school AN influences, and some Mount Olympus vibes. But a few times I felt like the idea was ...

Continuing on the chill side of things this week, I went in a bit of a trap direction. It sounds pretty cool though. Though this feels like something I've written before. But between myself and chat during stream we weren't able to find a song I've written in the past that sounded the same. So maybe it just sounds like it belongs with a style I've written before.
This is missing a lot of FX, variation, fills, and some sound design. Most of all, I think it's missing "something else" to c...

This week, I started off with some atmosphere samples to spark some inspiration. I began with the intention of writing some melodic dubstep, but during the session a more chill direction felt better. I added some drum layers, some basic sound design/layering, and some arrangement to finish off the idea.
I really like this week & last week's idea but they're definitely on the more chill sid...

This month we're writing some chill downtempo and melodic dubstep. In yesterday's session, I started out with a basic drum beat and chord progression. After that, I added in extra layers and a full (but basic) arrangement.
This song is very simple, but I think it works well. I don't think it needs much outside of FX, atmosphere, and automation. And I think I could do all of that in a few hours. Whether or not it sees a release is questionable, but I do think I'll spend another ses...

This is the last week for some chill progressive house. The last few songs I've written have been melodic house and this week I wanted to return to a specific style I haven't written in for some time. On stream, I started out writing a bunch of chord progressions. I chose the best one and then put together a very rough drum groove, sound design, and arrangement to end up at the version you hear above.
I thought this idea was decent when I finished my session yesterday but I didn't see m...

For the first time in a while, I finished something I wrote only a few weeks ago. It was a nice change of pace compared to working through a backlog of projects that I want to finish. Not much has changed from the original version aside from the quality - I felt that it was already a complete song and I just wanted to ride the wave of creativity until I finished it. I think it turned out pretty good!

This week, I'm back at it with some more progressive house ideas. I wanted to start with a clean slate so I wrote some chords and put together a basic drum groove. A chill, laid back direction felt most natural but I didn't like the original chords I wrote, so I went back and wrote something new that I enjoyed a bit more. After some work on layers and a basic arrangement, I ended up with the version you hear above.
I have been really enjoying writing this style recently (melodic house, ...

The heat is rolling in here in Colorado and this song is the perfect vibe to cool off and relax as the summer kicks off! This was originally written last year when I tried a bunch of different styles. The final version combines some of my piano house style with some deep house influences. It's another one that gives me 2012 Approaching Nirvana vibes.

For the rest of June, I'm writing progressive house and this is the first one. I started out with some chord progressions, added some rhythm and wrote a top melody. From there I added drums, a bit of sound design, and a basic arrangement to get to the version you hear above. There are no FX yet so the pacing and energy is a little bit off, but the underlying idea is there.
I think this idea is decent and I could see myself returning to it, but I don't think it's very high on the list. <...

This month I decided to take the first stream and just write whatever came to me. Today's session was one of those sessions that just ... worked. I went a lot longer than my usual sessions and came up with a really good idea. After stream I spent an hour or so finalizing the arrangement and layering in some FX here and there. The result is what you hear above.
It's not often that things go this well and I'm still surprised at sessions like these. But I'm very happy with the results. Som...

This week I'm back with something more upbeat and summer-y. Though it's simple, I think this idea is pretty strong. The layers are very basic and it's a simple arrangement (at best), but I'm happy with how it came out! I can definitely see myself returning to this project once I finish up some other projects.
What do you think? - Is this a good enough idea to finish? And which idea from this month is your favorite? I think mine is May 11 - I've linked the other songs be...

This week, we're continuing with upbeat / summer-y / fun ideas... At least, that's what I was trying on stream, haha. Unfortunately nothing was sticking so I scrapped everything and just wrote a lot of quick ideas to see if I could come up with something interesting. This idea sounded pretty cool so I ran with it towards the end of the stream and put together a very rough sketch of what this song could be.
I don't think this idea is as strong as the last 2, but I do like it. It's got a ...

This week we're continuing with some upbeat/summer-y/fun ideas. Like last week's idea, I think this song has a lot of potential. I started out with some inspiration from an atmosphere sample, a basic drumbeat, and wrote chords and a melody. From there everything grew into what you hear in this version. I spent a little time after stream adding some FX and smoothing out some of the layers.
I am definitely going to return to this song. It gives me a lot of Avicii vibes and I'm really liki...

This month we're writing Happy / Upbeat / Summer-y songs and today's idea turned out really well. It came together very quickly and while it's still very rough around the edges the whole idea is laid out!
This feels very nostalgic and reminiscent of the stuff I was writing in 2012/2013. Honestly, this style is something I've purposefully stayed away from for awhile now in an effort not to sound "cheesy" haha. But with better production skills these days, I'm feeling a lot more satisfied...

This week mark's the last Big Room song for April and I think it's my favorite. This time around, I did all the percussion and sound design before writing a melody or any chords and it worked out really well because everything gels together very nicely in this idea. After that, I added in some basic FX and an arrangement to get to this version.
I'm really liking this and I'm planning on returning to it (and most likely finishing it), but what do you think? - Is this something you want m...

This week, I'm continuing with some Big Room. Yesterday, I wrote a few chords/melodies and after settling on this one I did some basic sound design and layering to create an intro & anthem part. Unfortunately, I only had time to write these sections, but I think it came out pretty good!
Listening back, I would arrange this song similarly to Cairo - cut the anthem part in half, move into a 16 or 24 bar build and then into the drop. The essence of the song idea is there; it woul...

This month we're writing some Big Room! It's been awhile since I've written something in this genre and I think this week's idea turned out pretty good! I started with drums, then wrote a melody and bassline, and put together a basic arrangement. Towards the end of the stream, I was able add some basic FX and build to give the idea some context.
I really like where this idea went, but I'm not sure it's super strong. I'll probably return to this at some point, but I don't know if I'll fi...
