This episode of Retronauts Micro sets out to do two things: test the limits of our so-called "micro" format—which was never meant to go beyond 15 minutes—and assemble the Talking Simpsons crew to talk about yet another Simpsons game. Luckily, the subject matter is one of the two, or possibly three, good Simpsons games in existence, and quite possibly the best! Enjoy!

The latest Retronauts Radio is in, and as usual it's not quite the usual. If that makes any sense. I like to play fast and loose with the format of Radio episodes, just so long as it's ultimately about music, and this month's entry is no exception. Rather than simply go on about new classic game music releases, this week's show slows the pace a bit to provide some fundamental info on the process and logistics of actually listening to the tunes I've been analyzing — a sort of spiritual counterp...

Happy Memorial Day, those of you who happen to be celebrating that today. Cap off your holiday with — yes! — a new Retronauts. This one's a good one... I mean, they all are, but this one's about The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Which is really good.
Description: Jeremy and Bob wax rhapsodic with Henry Gilbert and Kat Bailey as they harmonize to sing the praises of the first portable Zelda: The iconoclastic and frequently surreal Link's Awakening.

Holy cow, this episode is late! Sorry about that, folks. Between international travel, prepping for a weekend of non-stop Retronauts recordings, and a clerical error on our scheduling tracking sheet, I totally missed the fact that this bad boy was due on Friday. On the plus side, it's a "Micro" episode that's 50 minutes long... so maybe that'll make up for the tardiness? Never mind that it would have been 50 minutes long even if I'd gotten it up on schedule. Eh heh. Well, anyway. Please enjoy.

Hey folks,
It's time for another Retronauts "HD remake!" This one comes to you roughly nine years after Retronauts' original Mario Kart episode, and thankfully, the Mario Kart series is in a much better place than it was in 2008 (for us, anyway). This one's a little longer than usual, so hopefully you'll enjoy everything we crammed into it!

My original run of Retronauts ended at episode 99, and the IGN-era incarnation experienced a jagged and awkward life. So, dinging three digits is a pretty significant milestone for me — and presumably for Bob, too, but I don't want to speak for him. But anyway, wow.
To mark the occasion, we've circled back to the Kickstarter campaign that relaunched Retronauts and brought in the final cohosting level backer for his long-overdue appearance: Daniel Hawks, who wanted to explore the history of t...

Hello, friends! I'm happy to announce that our live presentation from last month's Midwest Gaming Classic is now here for your enjoyment. It's pretty noisy, which seems to be par for the course with MGC, but the conversation should make up for the background babble. Kevin Bunch and Caitlin Oliver, two cool people who have held world high-score records in the Splatterhouse games, join me and Bob to discuss, well, Splatterhouse. We cover the entire series here! So please to enjoy...

Hello. Here's our latest. I'd stay and chat, but I've been working on this episode for the past 17 hours, and I am exhausted. Hopefully the results were worth the effort — please enjoy. Me, I'm gonna get some sleep.
Description: The latest Retronauts Radio features an extended look at the new soundtrack release of Hideo Kojima's legendary SEGA CD adventure Snatcher, the latest Brass de Bravo Final Fantasy album, Taito on TG16, and more!

Welcome to a new month of Retronauts! With our very first episode of Retronauts East, Ben and Benj and I delved into the history of Apple II gaming. Now, here's the logical follow-up: An in-depth study of games for monochrome Macintosh in the ’80s — basically, gaming up through System 6.
While the Mac didn't play host to a ton of games, the unique traits of the platform led to equally distinct software. From Dark Castle to Shufflepuck Cafe, the Mac had its own iconic visual ...

This week's episode is a project I've had in mind for years. Back in 2013, I started developing an independent bimonthly magazine called 2 Dimensions that was going to follow on the heels of my GameSpite Quarterly project and expand its coverage beyond video games to classic comics and cartoons as well. But a short time later I was kinda pushed into reluctantly taking the EIC role at USgamer — "reluctantly", in part, because those new duties put the kibosh on ambitio...

Before I vanish from the face of the earth to deal with holiday obligations, I wanted to drop this latest episode of Retronauts Micro. You can think of this as a sort of continuation of Monday's post: Same session, same lineup. But this is the real reason I invited Chris Sims to join us. He's coauthoring a comic book series (published by Dynamite Comics) about Atari's absolutely fascinating SwordQuest series for the Atari 2600. In addition to learning more about the games, this...

This is another of those tricky weekends full of disruptions as Bob and I present a live panel at Midwest Gaming Classic, and for once I decided to get a jump on things. Rather than posting this week's early access episode late with a wall of apologies, I've gone and posted it early. So it's early early access. Like, double early. Which makes sense, because this is Retronauts East, and east coast time is ahead of west coast...? Or something?
This time around, Ben Elgin takes a powder ...

It's that time again: Time for another episode of Retronauts Radio. This time I'm joined by Jack Menhorn from Boss Key Studios; he brings to this discussion of classic video game music the insight of someone who actually works with video game music for a living! And there's lots of great stuff to explore this month, with new soundtrack releases for Castlevania III, Contra III, Shovel Knight, Galaxy Force II, and Thunder Blade. Some really great stuff ...

I know a few people have been looking forward to this episode for a while, so I hope it lives up to expectations. As a follow-up to our previous Castlevania episodes over the past few years, this one sees us looking at the series' portable legacy from 2001-2008 — six games for Game Boy Advance and DS, five of them overseen by Koji Igarashi. And who better to join us this time around than fellow Igavania fanatic Shane Bettenhausen? I ask ya.
Hopefully this will make the wait for ...

As is now routine, here's the proper cover art for Micro 57. I've added it to the Micro episode upload as well, but I don't know if that will properly, automatically update for you, so here is a double-post. Since this week's episode is a Bob-produced show and he prefers to use Nick Daniel's (always excellent) art for his covers, I'm hoping that'll give me a chance to catch up on the art process and start cranking out these covers alongside each episode's Patreon release. We'll see!

Start your weekend right with ME. Jeremy Parish. My voice, in your ear, for THIRTY MINUTES.
Oh, sorry, that sounded more like a threat than enticement, huh? But, in all seriousness, it's a new episode of Retronauts Micro. And it's a different take on the format than usual.
I mean, yeah, like most of my Micros, it's me monologuing for a long time. So: An acquired taste. This time, though, I didn't simply pluck a random topic out of the ether. Instead, I decided to try producin...

Hi everyone, it's your weekly early access experience. This week is another Retronauts East, and while this new setup situation isn't completely sorted out just yet, we're getting closer to parity with Retronauts West. The conversation and the sound quality are a lot sturdier this time around than last, and I've ordered the last new equipment we'll need to bring everything up to code for next time.
This East installment once again sees Ben E. and Benj E. (yes, it's confusing to me, too) join i...

To add to your collection! Since, alas, PodcastOne overwrites our custom episode art with its generic promo graphic.
We know there are a lot of issues with our move to PodcastOne, including the pay wall they added to older episodes despite assurances that it was strictly "an option." We're doing our best to get these problems resolved. We apologize that what should have been a great step forward for the future of Retronauts has been so frustrating for you. We're unhappy about these...

One of the odd quirks of our new hosting service is that it seems to overwrite our custom episode-specific artwork with the general show art. While they're looking into a workaround, I'll be posting our artwork here, I guess, so you can manually add it to your show (if that's your jam). Not ideal, but hopefully it's another temporary glitch.
Anyway, this is the proper cover for the Final Fantasy IV episode. Everyone is so spiky in this game... — Jeremy

Hi everyone, your latest upcoming episode is here! It's fresh out of the podcast oven, too — Bob and I just recorded this yesterday. Since we were both together in the studio this weekend, I thought it might be fun to have him sit in on a Retronauts Radio. If I'm not mistaken, this might be the first time the two of us have ever recorded a full episode with just the two of us sitting in.
Anyway, it's a different take on Retronauts Radio, both in terms of hosting and in terms of coverag...

Hello! Happy March! Etc.
Now that we've crossed our goal to bringing back Retronauts Micro (which admittedly doesn't look to be the case at the moment thanks to Patreon's first-of-the-month hiccups, but we'll get there again shortly), I'm launching March by initiating our dual-podcast protocol. Retronauts will continue to run on a weekly basis as it has been doing the past couple of months, but also you'll be able to enjoy Micro episodes by myself and Bob every other week. This is all...

Good day to you, and welcome to another fine week of existence. Well, I can't guarantee the entire week will be fine, but you can at least stack the deck in your odds by kicking things off with a new episode of Retronauts.
We've gone back to the Final Fantasy IV well as part of our Final Fantasy deep-dive series. Yeah, we tackled this topic back in the 1UP days, but we've declared a mulligan on anything that happened before our Kickstarter. Plus, last time around, we didn't h...

Thanks to you and your collosal generosity and support, we cleared our funding goal to bring back biweekly Retronauts Micro episodes earlier this month. I just wanted to say (1) thank you! And (2) I'm hard at work on the first new Micro. My hope is that it will debut on March 1 to kick off the new month. Since Micros will run in addition to the weekly full episodes, we need to space them a few days apart. Wednesdays seem like a pretty good amount of space from the standard Monday releas...

We've talked about it, now we've made it happen. As part of the show's expansion to full-length weekly episodes, the Retronauts family is now joined by "Retronauts East," wherein I summon various and sundry fans of classic gaming based on the east coast (specifically in Raleigh NC) to gather together and discuss various topics. This week, Ben Elgin and Benj Edwards join me for a conversation about the Apple II computer.
I admit up front that the episode's a little rough. The recording equipmen...
