A Sneak Peek

https://vimeo.com/638368259/adfb043c19

Here’s a quick sneak peek into a full routine I’m posting for my higher tiers today. I’m so excited to be workshopping this costume and routine. It feels like Dirty Show Detroit is just around the corner now. I hope to see some of you there!

Today’s feels

I’m missing home today but so happy to be with family in Iowa for a few more days.

Today I renew my license and have lunch with Mama Colby. She promised me she would get together some of her old modeling pics. I can’t wait to show you.💗💗💗

Road Dog Diaries: peek at Nashville shop

Spent some time filming this week! Here's a couple of shots of the shop I got while goofing around. I hate sitting still! I'm always wandering, so here are the fruits of my restless labor.

Road Dog Diaries: Memphis in TN

More fun pics from my Nashville trip with my baby girl, Memphis.

My favorite part was spending time with my mini me who is now taller than me.

Have you ever been to Nashville? What’s your favorite part?

Road Dog Diaries: Witch Please

My daughter Memphis and I got to spend time together in Nashville during spooky season and it was everything I could have ever asked for. We wrapped early on filming so we were able to have a nice dinner together with the crew! We walked the dark spooky streets and ate some Nashville grub.

It was so fun to spend the evening with the crew too!

We both were so excited to walk by John Prines home where so many great songs from our past have been written.

Road Dog Diaries: Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes photos from our most recent filming at the Antique Archaeology in Nashville. It was a fairly fast turn around this time so everything was running triple time.

I didn’t have the time to properly record my road dog diaries but I’ll do my best to sum it up.

Yes, we are still filming.

It was great to give Mike hugs and be with my crew again IRL. So much of our lives revolves around technology so a real hug means a lot.

Mostly this trip was about hug...

A hearty “whatever”…

I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel it!!! Your collective corporate mouths wrote checks your ass’ couldn’t cash. Now folks are done. I’m one of the lucky ones who chose to rage it with my friends instead of pledging loyalty to a corporation. It worked out for me. It’s been a hustle and a frustration on my worst days but a blessing and source of light and hope on my good days.

Remember, if you’re going to help build someone else’s dream, be sure they’re invested in yours.

Creepin' It Real

I have always had a love for the odd, off-beat, creepy, scary, macabre, whatever you want to call it. Growing up in a religious cult that doesn't allow for the exploration of the ungodly parts of life, I always felt like there was something inherently wrong with me.

My momma loves to tell the story from when I was a little girl, sitting in church and one of the speakers asked all the children of the congregation what they want to be when they grow up. My hand shot straight in the air a...

vintage Hawaiian house dress

Sometimes I find that many of my favorite pieces are simple, inexpensive, cute little pieces I’ve picked up on the road. This vintage Hawaiian house dress I purchased in Clinton Iowa of all places. There are a multitude of incredible vintage shops in Clinton Iowa. I don’t even know where to begin because I would feel bad if I left anybody out considering I grew up there. If you decide to go to Clinton Iowa for a little day trip, all you have to do is drive through town and you will see al...

Road Dog Diaries

I don’t often post pics of my son because he really did not like fame when he was younger.

Miles always loved privacy and calm peaceful moments so fame was not an option for him, not ever something that interested him so I respected his request as a young man to not be in the limelight but now that he is older he isn’t bothered by that anymore. He just does his thing and lives his life.

Miles is now and has always been private but so funny! This kid is funny as hell! I remem...

A Black and White Halloween

Halloween is almost here! Here’s a little Halloween tale for you. This was not long after I moved to Chicago. The house I lived in at this time was something else to say the absolute least! Halloween morning, my niece Alaina and I were taking a walk through Palmer Square on our way to get a coffee, trying to get our steps in, being very Golden Girls. We ended up talking about the dreams we each had the night before, about a little girl in our home who wasn't related to us but needed our hel...

The Evolution of a Costume

This might be one of the most documented evolutions of any of my costumes, but it is certainly not the only one that has gone through this much change.

There are so many options to add to a costume to personalize it. I’m constantly finding new things to pin, sew, sequin, bedazzle, hem, repair. It takes SO much time and energy to get a costume to its completed state for stage but it’s so fun to see them grow. I’ll be debuting this costume be at Dirty Show Detroit in February. Will...

As promised, the full version of this number. I've never danced in this costume before. I'm basically workshopping the costume, trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. I'm feeling out the costume and props. This is what the very beginning of the process looks like. If all does not go well, sometimes it's the end of the process with that particular costume for a...

Young Sue Colby

The one on the left is my Momma, in the middle my aunt Sonia (Rest in power to my favorite auntie) the boy is my uncle Bobby (my favorite uncle always). And the baby is my hunt Tina (of course another family favorite💗).

My aunt Tina was a teenager when I was little so she was always the coolest! She would take me to her babysetting gigs and share her handbags with me. She is strong and sassy and has a beautiful daughter now. I love her so much.

What a loving group of family. ...

Old San Juan

I don’t get to travel to San Juan often, but when I do it’s always magical. There’s something so comforting about being in such a historic place. It’s like you can feel the spirits passing through the streets. I get the same feeling when I’m in New Orleans, too. With Samhain just around the corner, for those that believe in and practice magic in that way, it’s signifies the time when the liminal space thins between the realms of the living and dead. It’s often thought of as the ...

Embroidery

Embroidery gets so taken for granted. It’s one of those things I think many people don’t consciously think about. Anymore it’s usually done on a machine and takes no time at all. But prior to the 1950s, while embroidery machines did exist, a majority of embroidery was done by hand. Here’s a little article about the history of the embroidery machine.

I figured since Halloween is nearly upon us I would go back through give you some of my best Halloween adjacent costumes. It’s so funny to think about all of the costuming I own and how so much of it doesn’t really qualify as “Halloween costume”. What is that? What are the rules about Halloween costumes? Do you have to be dressed up as something or someone else for it to count?? Someone tell me the rules! Remember that I grew up JW so holidays are all new to me. Even after all these y...

“Hooked”

I wrestled myself out of bed at around 330 this morning, rattled around the house, came back to bed and cuddled with Jeremy for a bit, let the dogs out and spent the next hour preparing for our trip to La Parguera, the mangroves.

At about 7 AM, we hopped in the truck and started on our way. Of course we had to have a quick pitstop at McDonald’s for some coffee and a little breakfast. Nothing lik...

Like Momma Like Daughter

My momma, Susie. I’m not sure of her age in this picture but I think she said she was still a teenager. My Momma and Poppa got together when she was just 14. My dad was also a teenager. They fell deeply, madly in love and had many adventures before they settled down and had babies.

My Momma grew up in Davenport Iowa with her Mother Rosie and Step dad Dick. Young Susie always had a wild but loving spirit, or so I have been told. I find the same to be true of present day Sue Colby. View Post

I’ve arrived

At home safely in PR💗 thank you so much for your love and messages! Also, more to come on my adventures hanging out with my boy on the picket line, dentist stuff and my momma and intellectual property.

Also, I love you!

Yes you💗
