Hey all!
Its already march. Feels like I blinked and suddenly February was gone. But I figured I'd do a brief update of things that I'm hoping to get done for this month.
First up, thank you all. I know I probably babble to much about this, but the help that I've got from Patreon, especially these last few months, has been pretty amazing. I'm hoping the resulting art has been worth it.
Going forward I have a few things that are in the midst of be...

Sending along a quick preview of the next page for Tides of Nautu'loa. Finally starting to get back on track with this after a few months away. So many re-writes took place that it's almost not the same story (though the characters are all intact).
No links this time. Since it's just a rough preview I'm posting as an 'inline' image here on Patreon.

"They would come to him, the people of Vrykstaad Hill, and adorn small lanterns to his mane, whispering in shaking, mournful tones the name of their departed, and the prayer of them finding their light so that they may be led to rest. The lanterns were the stars, the gateway, the beacon.

I had this image set as the background for my desktop for a while and something was driving me a bit crazy about it. The colours didn't feel as unified as I wanted them to be and it looked too much like a 'digital splash'.
I started fooling around a bit with the chroma of the image and added a few gradient masks to give the image a more unified colour pattern. I also wanted it to look less 'digital' in a sense, and have a bit of variance in the darks, so I fiddled with some of ...

I'll be trying to share more works in progress with folks in the coming weeks. I'm still working on the painting for this month, and will be notifying the next person in line for a sketch this month as well on the 15th.
The picture itself is just a rough concept I've been doing for 'things around Felwroth'. It will be cleaned up and probably given a basic colour treatment at some point in the future.
"The Colossus of the Lost Empire was an impressive golem created by ...

Another update!
This time around it's the tonal drawing for the upcoming Ghost Walk painting. This was mainly my attempts at figuring out general lighting. I'm trying to get used to applying more cast shadows in my work, such as with the tree in the foreground in this one falling across not only the main subject but a bit of the house as well.
The shading/hi-lites are still incredibly basic. I try not to get into detailed textures until later on in the process, ...

The image done as last month's sketch for which I was kindly given permission to post by Airakar! The character in question is Feshari (I hope I'm not butchering the name), a paladin and ex-slave.
I admittedly went full Elmore on this image. While I don't generally do elaborate backgrounds it's hard for me to want to stop once I'm dotting in trees and mountains. I wanted to give her a certain air of watching an impending storm rolling in while she's out in the wilds, like...

Final version of a commission that was long overdue. The ever so dark Kassidey.
This commission was a fairly challenging one. It features a character that is black and white in colour, inside of a temple/cathedral/church that features grey stonework, lit by mostly candle-light and reflective lights. Black and Whites are a fairly crazy combination when it comes to doing them in colour since one absorbs more light and the other reflects more. It's also not the easiest...

Just a short update this time around. I'll be notifying the next person on the list for their sketch this month today. I was thinking of taking on two sketches this month but with two comic pages being worked on, a separate commission (which you all get to preview!) and another painting to work on, I don't want to stretch myself out too thin. Once it stops being fun it starts getting hard to be really motivated and burnout sets in.
The art preview this time around is one ...

I'm never sure if folks want to see the really rough sketches of upcoming artwork, especially with how 'sketchy' my rough work tends to be. But I liked rough image enough to want to share it.
It features one of the Lorrnathi traditions known as the 'Ghosts Walk' that takes place in deep winter. One Reix (shapeshifter-esque Lorrnath) portrays the Pale King, one of the oldest of the Lorrnathi Gods, who was said to have walked from town to town where people would gather to speak t...

It was a weird start to the year, with Patreon having had a glitch appear after a code upgrade which threw a wrench into things for a few days. It looks like it's largely fixed now, so kudos for the fast turn-around.
That said, I'm hoping to wander into the new year with a little more focus than last. Most of 2015 was my poking around and figuring out what exactly I wanted to do with Patreon. While I got more art done in the last year - in great part due to Patreon - It w...

Cue sad-slide whistle sound.
On either the 31st of December or the first of this month it looks like Patreon had some sort of difficulty with it's servers. I don't know the particulars, but it seems that after this happened some problems cropped up when it comes to payments.
I realized a slew of payments didn't go through on my end, which I figured was just folks needing to pay Christmas Bills, and I'm not sweating too much. The big problem is that my own pledg...

I meant to have this up yesterday, but underestimated just how busy Christmas can be around here (So full of turkey.. can't breath..).
The final painted version of Cinderfrost (When she's the incarnate mother of the blood of dragons) and Mrs. Lianna M. Squeakerface of the tinyface kingdom (a title given to her by Cinders), both along the ghost walk, a time of year to bring rest to the spirits guided to her plane by the Pale King. It's not a time of mourning, but joy, for their ...

A very rough picture of a picture I'd like to have done for tomorrow or Christmas(!). A little late after I've been trying to re-learn how to draw equine faces. It's been a weird month, with my forgetting some fundamental things about drawing characters. I'm unsure if this is the final rough, but I wanted to show off a Solstice Cinders with a holiday Squeakerface, doing their rounds, making jingle-stars for the winter sky.
Squeakerface got a shawl and a hat for the new year.. a...

I had a distinct lack of character concept images for the comic that started to become really obvious the more I worked on it. I've been rifling through some quick sketches of the various characters that will appeal so I can have a consistent look for them.
Nalahi is the daughter of the head priest of the Great Wave and Voice of the Whispers of Stones. A priestess herself, her outfit is generally the type of low-covering island ware with wave and sun motif. She's an acoly...

I figured that until I can get the tablet brightness issue resolved I figured I can at least send along the inks of one of the paintings I'm doing for the month. I wanted to try a more finished/detailed ink style than I usually do for colour pieces since usually the lines are theoretically removed in the final piece. It's been a while since I did a more black and white in my inks, though admittedly much of the shadowing is being left up to the tonal-greys I'm in the process of doing ...

I'm currently having incredibly lengthy problems with a new display I was given as an early xmas gift. The display itself is a Benq (and I warn people who rely on their screens to keep away from this brand, gorgeous displays but the software is abysmally bad.).

Heya folks, just a brief update. I didn't manage to get much showable sketchwork done to post today. I have a the next page for Tides in production as well as sketching out another painting as well.

I did want to mention that I'll be sending out the sketch offer to the next person on the $10 tier list as well. But wanted to let folks know how I go about choosing people to do a sketch piece. Essentially It's an (ever narrowing) list that ...

Final version of the previous inked version (nsfw - 'tasteful' nudity), just in time too! I'm finding that I have to re-learn some things about doing colour images again, and I'm trying out a new technique.
I should be back on schedule for now. I'll have a mix of comic pages, rough concept work and sketches, as well as the sketch for someone per month as usual. I was going to start taking on commissions in the next month before I realized it was December already. It...

This week's image is another from the upcoming Heroes of Morhost, which will be gracing the lead in to the bestiary of the book. This will be the last image of the project posted since the book will be in layout and then set up to be printed, and my work will be finished.
I'll actually miss working on these, and am a little sad that my part in it is coming to an end, but it also means that I can finally start working on some of my own projects again. I'll be taking a week or tw...

Hey all,
I'm a bit behind on getting posts out in the last while. A deadline is looming closer and closer and I'm pretty much full bore nose to the grindstone. I've also had a bit of a health issue while helping a relative with mobility issues with property upkeep, so it's been a little hectic and I've been running at about half capacity for the last couple of weeks (at least Halloween had good weather!).
That said, I have another image from the upcoming Heroes of Mor...

Heroes of Morhost - Adventures!
I wanted to show off a bit of the big project I was doing for the last several months for Author Paul Kidd of Kitsune Press. I was approached to do the cover and a portion of the interior illustration for a new tabletop RPG called 'Heroes of Morhost -fangs, fur, and fury'. One of the criteria is that it had a sort of 'old school realism' to it, based on 12th century Byzantine aesthetics and culture. I was pretty honored to get tapped to do so m...

A two-in-one post today.
Surprise Goat - This was a character that just sort of popped into my head one day. Very much like hearing a sudden "Hi!" out of the blue. She's fast become a curious little critter. A mix of animal mystical and high strung. I still don't have an official name for her yet.
The image is still in the roughing-out phase. I'm still tweaking and adding details, but I think this will be the 'big painted' image for this month, since I c...

Hey all!
Since I was a little late with last-week's post, I'll be a little early with this one! I managed to finish the fourth page for the Tides comic, and get a bit of sketchwork done as well towards the next couple of posts.
The rather large rpg project I'm working on will be ending in November, meaning that I'll finally be free (after a couple of weeks off to just complete some personal stuff) to take commissions. It also means I'm in a 'crunch' mode to get things...

Hey all,
A quick update of some comic page roughs this time around. Patreon took a few days to process payments so I had to push this preview back a day.
I should also have the sketch I did last month for one patron (with their kind permission for me to post) to show perhaps tomorrow, as well as an image showing a bit about the process I use to do colour work.
This reminds me, I still plan on doing a sketch for people on the $10 tier. Instead of picking rand...

Hey all!
Well, while I thought I would be delayed in posting today (Sunday) it looks as if I was able to get back in time to send along arty stuff!
I've decided to try a bit of illustrative work showing off little tidbits about the world of Felwroth. I'm planning on doing quite a few of these as a sort of 'journal of the world' as if told by a traveler of sorts. They'll feature everything from places of interest, to people of legend and even down to what the fashions ...
