March Updates!

Hey all!

Its already march.  Feels like I blinked and suddenly February was gone.  But I figured I'd do a brief update of things that I'm hoping to get done for this month.

First up, thank you all.  I know I probably babble to much about this, but the help that I've got from Patreon, especially these last few months, has been pretty amazing.  I'm hoping the resulting art has been worth it.

Preview of the page 5 of Tides

Sending along a quick preview of the next page for Tides of Nautu'loa.  Finally starting to get back on track with this after a few months away.  So many re-writes took place that it's almost not the same story (though the characters are all intact).

The Crab Hunter - Revisited

I had this image set as the background for my desktop for a while and something was driving me a bit crazy about it.  The colours didn't feel as unified as I wanted them to be and it looked too much like a 'digital splash'.

I started fooling around a bit with the chroma of the image and added a few gradient masks to give the image a more unified colour pattern.  I also wanted it to look less 'digital' in a sense, and have a bit of variance in the darks, so I fiddled with some of ...

I'll be trying to share more works in progress with folks in the coming weeks.  I'm still working on the painting for this month, and will be notifying the next person in line for a sketch this month as well on the 15th.

Image Preview - February 6

Another update!

This time around it's the tonal drawing for the upcoming Ghost Walk painting.  This was mainly my attempts at figuring out general lighting.  I'm trying to get used to applying more cast shadows in my work, such as with the tree in the foreground in this one falling across not only the main subject but a bit of the house as well.

The shading/hi-lites are still incredibly basic.  I try not to get into detailed textures until later on in the process, ...

Final version of a commission that was long overdue.  The ever so dark Kassidey.

This commission was a fairly challenging one.  It features a character that is black and white in colour, inside of a temple/cathedral/church that features grey stonework, lit by mostly candle-light and reflective lights.  Black and Whites are a fairly crazy combination when it comes to doing them in colour since one absorbs more light and the other reflects more.  It's also not the easiest...

Just a short update this time around.  I'll be notifying the next person on the list for their sketch this month today.  I was thinking of taking on two sketches this month but with two comic pages being worked on, a separate commission (which you all get to preview!) and another painting to work on, I don't want to stretch myself out too thin.  Once it stops being fun it starts getting hard to be really motivated and burnout sets in.

Into the New Year

It was a weird start to the year, with Patreon having had a glitch appear after a code upgrade which threw a wrench into things for a few days.  It looks like it's largely fixed now, so kudos for the fast turn-around.

A very rough picture of a picture I'd like to have done for tomorrow or Christmas(!). Character Concept - Nalahi

Computer Problem delays

I'm currently having incredibly lengthy problems with a new display I was given as an early xmas gift.  The display itself is a Benq (and I warn people who rely on their screens to keep away from this brand, gorgeous displays but the software is abysmally bad.).

Hey all,
