Feet and Feathers!

Did you know that famous burlesque fan dancer Sally Rand once counted every single feather on an ostrich feather Fan? One would think that one stave equals one feather, no no no no no no no… on one Burlesque fan there are usually 12 Staves of feathers. On one stave there are THOUSANDS of tiny feathers! Do you know how many feathers were on Sally Rands fans?

Unbothered

We hear this term a lot lately, unbothered… What does that mean? In my world, to be unbothered is to be set free from the expectations put on you but others. To move forward with my life with strength and determination and confidence regardless of what’s happening within the industry or within the social circle. We all learn and grow at our own pace. Don’t rush it! When we rush our work we end up with is sloppy work. Take your time to grow. It’s a beautiful thing to look around and be...

If you are into costuming, burlesque, Burlesque history, striptease history, anything of the like please give her a follow! You can find Christina Manuge here on Patreon.

On another note. I am really working on the quality of my content. Please let me know how this video holds up. How is the video resolution? Is it clear? Is it...

Working with a panel skirt

I always love it when my costumes are my props. I love to be able to create luxurious moments with just a sheet of fabric. I noticed that a lot of new burlesque performers (myself included years ago) have difficulty with their hands. Meaning you’re not exactly sure what to do with your hands and your arms. What I love about a panel skirt is that you don’t have to worry about that. Your hands stay busy and look elegant if you hold the skirt as if you are pinching it between your thumb and ...

How to recover from a uh oh moment in practice

I absolutely adore the pasties that Christina Manuge made for me, and these vintage Burlesque bottoms from Tiff Little Fingers absolutely slay on stage! I’m over the moon about this costume.

As you watch this video you will see that I have an uh oh moment when I drop my fan to the floor and it cracks. The entire LED element was destroyed. I watched it break and I wanted to cry and run away and maybe hate scream... The reason I did not do that is because I am trying to make it a rule t...

Song 2 with my new costume

I absolutely love this costume as it comes apart. Magic reveals and the over-the-top aesthetic just grab me by the heart. 💚

I love it when I put on a costume I have made and I feel at home in it.

I’m loving how well this panel skirt flows in the breeze. Normally I work with a smaller panel skirt. Go big or go home! This one’s better than any panel skirt I’ve ever used, and I have accumulated some beautiful ones!

I’m feeling like a proud mama😇

New costume!!!!

I really wanted to mimic my environment with this costume. I wanted it to feel like the rain forest. This costume is actually made out of remnants. Multiple dresses and costumes that I pulled apart and Frank’n’stitched together to create this beauty. I found a lovely headdress that I liked but when I got it in the mail it didn’t match the costume. Also... Sadly both of my burlesque LED feather fans for this costume broke. So I took one of the fans and detached all of the feathers and ve...

Breathe.

Do you ever notice that when you’re doing something that’s difficult or exciting or nerve-racking... like Paddleboarding or getting on a flight, driving a car for the first time, going on a date, etc, you forget to breathe? I’ve noticed this with myself. And it almost creates a false sense of panic. I have finally learned how to work through that. I breathe! I breathe… I breathe and slowly hold my breath for three seconds and breathe out for three seconds, hold my breath for three sec...

Just dance.

Right now is a great opportunity to take a moment while you have it. Just dance… Just move with the music and allow yourself to feel the beat. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Don’t edit yourself. Just dance. Put on music that moves your soul and Move your body, move it in weird ways , And fun ways, and beautiful ways, maybe I’m not so beautiful ways, just dance. Usually when I’m dancing I’m stretching at the same time. I used dance as a way to lubricate my joints and keep my body m...

Shadow dance

What you are looking at right now is a basic shadow dance. There are many ways to do a shadow dance, this is one of mine. The point of a shadow dance is to create the illusion of nudity without giving up the ghost. To highlight the curves of your form without having to bare everything through your entire routine. Shadow dances can be modest or a bit more sultry, it just depends on the performer. There is really no one way that’s right. I suggest purchasing or finding a sheer fabric that cat...

Road Dog stretch session

My time on the road is always full of adventures and exciting experiences. Sometimes it’s overwhelming even though I love it. Those are the times when I need to find a beautiful spot and just stretch. To feel the ground under my feet and the wind in my hair is truly a refresher. Here is a series of stretches I use daily. Sometimes in my hotel room, sometimes on set, sometimes on the beach, in the forest or wherever. If i can refresh before the stress reaches an acute stage I can often times...

I broke the family line, Yikes!

The key to making a beautiful photo is always lighting. Always!...

Harness your inner Witch.

She is waiting for you... Make contact with the 5 elements every day in some meaningful way. Lead with love, even when it's difficult... Especially when it's difficult. Stay grounded, know your power and the root of it. Have faith in your choices and do not be afraid to admit when you are wrong, then relearn. There is no shame in being wrong, only in denying it. Be brave. You will find her. She is waiting for you.

Shine Bright

Be impactful with costume choices. How does it fit? Do you FEEL beautiful and powerful in your costuming? How does your costuming fit your body? Is it unique? Is it fully functional with some sort of magic reveal? If no. Rethink your costuming. Our presence on stage is a gift to our audience who pays money to support us and see us. Give yourself and your audience the best version of you. If not, you will regret it later. Hold yourself with pride, you deserve it.

Take it Slowwwwww....

I remember being a baby burlesquer and being terrified of my own stillness. I was so afraid that moving more slowly would somehow  cast a spotlight on all of my flaws and cracks. I was terrified to be vulnerable. Then one day I forced myself to dance without moving my feet. Just plant myself in one spot and be. It was AWKWARD AF! It remained awkward for a while until I mastered it. I realized that it isn't perfection they want to see, its the flaws, the cracks. It validates them. It can ...
