The first of 4 process breakdowns is up for the "Morning" set! It was a set I wanted to challenge myself with, working with 2 characters throughout, using a very specific lighting scheme as well as replicating an existing setting accurately. It was really tiring! But I learnt a lot too as well :)
As always, thank you for your kind support here on Patreon, and I hope you find this helpful! As always, all questions are welcome below in the comments.

Firstly, a big thank you for all your kind comments on the recent set! I just wanted to leave you guys with one last little treat before 2024 :)
I will be making a class with Coloso in Early 2024 called “Master Class: Cinematic Illustrations” It's basically a roughly 30 hour long course that gives me the chance to really do some in depth content for folks who want the nitty gritty of the process and everything that goes into it.
It will be different from the usual Patreon good...

I wanted to finish the set by the end of this year, and I just barely managed it! Lot's of really tough challenges in this one as always, with the natural lighting and wide scenes. Plenty to talk about in the process videos for this one :)
I want to hear what you think about this set too, so please do let me know!
Lastly, I hope everyone is having a good end of year break, and maybe it's time I took mine :) Next month will be a free month (or month off), so I can catch up...

Since these recent sets have been getting more and more expansive and detailed, I thought it would be right to keep you guys a little in the loop! I don't want to reveal too much to keep the surprise factor every time a new set appears, but I really wanted to show a couple of environments I'm working on for the upcoming set :)
These are all done without 3D tools or any direct reference, hence the slow pace; (I really need to find time to learn some basic 3D), but it's so reward...

A new set is in the works!
But in the meantime, I'd like to share some of the discarded compositions from the recent set :) It's almost inevitable that it takes a few tries to get things right, especially when working with an unfamiliar presentation style and mood, so these trial and error attempts are really just part of the process!
The first blooper was an especially difficult one to leave behind, but I needed a more dynamic shot introducing them to the arcade. Howe...

The final process video of the set! To round off the set, I wanted a piece that was a bit more action-oriented, and the arcade racing bikes felt like the perfect touch. Despite my initial confidence about the plan, it was still a substantial challenge getting the composition to come together naturally, especially with all these pesky colors to work with! Still, it was definitely a learning experience working with actually emoting characters versus the usual frown :) You can see some of my fat...

The third process video of the set is here! Arcade games on these big screens always turn out to be unexpectedly fun, especially when goofing with friends :)
There's just something about the atmosphere that I was intent on capturing here, and that had to be the hardest part. Combined with the close perspective, and I had gotten myself a pretty substantial challenge to work through. In the video I explain how compositions can evolve and change based on your needs, and how landscape...

The second process video for this month's set is here! Moving from scene to scene is always a bit of a unique challenge every time, requiring a good balance between an exciting and dynamic transition and maintaining a strong visual and thematic connection. In this video I talk about how I decided upon this particular composition, how to extract the right information from reference, as well as adapting on the fly to your precise needs and style.
As always, questions are very welcome belo...

The process videos are coming up for this month's set of artworks! It has been quite a challenging process drawing them, so there's plenty of difficulties and learning points to talk about in the upcoming videos, starting with this one!
From finding the best angles to create an establishing shot, to drawing heavy areas of detail and making signboards, I explain my thinking and reasoning as to why certain thing were done a particular way, and more. As always, I'll leave the video to you ...

Where do I even start! This has been the hardest set to attempt and put together, with the first piece alone taking so much effort and time. This time for real I wanted to draw the characters in a more casual mood (believe it or not I can count the number of times I've drawn an open mouth smile on one hand before this!), but I wanted to do it properly as well.
To add to this challenge, some really unfortunate things happened last week (luckily it was just resolved) that threw even more ...

Hey everyone, how have you been? It's been a really hectic start of the month (midway through November already!)
I've been fully working on the upcoming set and it's definitely going to be quite a step forward for me personally in terms of color use and mood - so it's been quite a bit to handle and figure out. Just dropping by to let you know I'm really looking forward to getting it done this month along with the explanation videos!
A tiny teaser thumbnail! :

Today's video is a light and simple (but important!) tutorial on when and how to start with a color draft on your illustrations. I've also combined in the process explanation of the latest piece to explain how the effects of a good color draft and extend onto the rest of the painting!

It's been a while since these two have been drawn in the same piece!
I had quite a lot of fun putting this one together. My characters are usually pretty stoic looking so more relaxed expressions are definitely not in my exact wheelhouse. Mix in some difficult lighting and I've got a puzzle on my hands :)
Still, I think it's important that I at least do some exploration like this once in a while. Sometimes it's good to freshen things up a little!

The final process walkthrough for the set!
I didn't quite mention it in the video itself, but the fight between getting the composition to work in it's own right versus fitting it perfectly (in terms of lighting and mood) with the previous frame was quite a lot of pain.
It also didn't help that I'm not too experienced at drawing full exposed details like those of the fridge, which meant another area of the piece that I essentially went in blind on. All in all though, I'm happy with ...

Part 3 of the process walkthrough is up!
Close-ups can present a challenge all on their own, especially when it comes to framing them within a larger context. How and what to show in the environment is one of those things that you can easily just get it over and done with, but to do it well really takes a lot of thinking!

UPDATE: Thank you all for you amazing support, the limited anniversary edition has sold out, (but the regular version is still up for sale as always)!
Just dropping in quickly between working on the process videos (and the next set!) to let you guys know the Anniversary Edition of the World of Guweiz artbook is available for a limited time (it's only 100 copies or so). It has a couple of perks, but not as much as the original Kickstarter backer edition.

New work at last!
This one was a really interesting set to attempt! Once again, following the theme of this short series, I wanted to draw scenes that are filled with details. Figuring out how they all should come together was a lot of effort however - from finding the right spots to put certain things, and whether they all work together.
I'm certain I'll have a blast explaining all these in this month's process video :)
Thank you for all your kind support as always, and ...

How has everyone been? It's great to be back drawing again! It takes a bit to restart the factory but I'm well on the way and very eager to share more works with everyone as always :) Please look forward to seeing some new works very soon in early October!
I've definitely missed a lot of your messages, questions and discord addition requests over the last month, so please do feel free to use the comments under this post to remind me, I will try my best to get to everyone ASAP!

Hi everyone, how are you doing? I hope you've all been taking care of yourselves!
Due to some circumstances out of my control, I won't be around for 2+ weeks in September sadly - however, I'll still be drawing and working on new pieces whenever I can. As such, things may be a little more quiet. While I really appreciate everyone's support, I feel the the right thing to do is to offer a free month for existing Patrons in September. This includes of course, annua...

The process for the final "After Work 2" piece is here!
This one overwhelmed me quite a few times during the process of creating it - even with helpful references and a lot of planning, it can feel very daunting attempting to "fill in" such a dense scene! I'm glad I gave it my best attempt though, and I hope you will find this video helpful :)
Thank you so much for your kind support as always. Also, feel free to let me know of any questions you have down below!

The next process is up! This one was definitely presented a different type of challenge compared to the three before - The difficulty was not in drawing the scene itself, but really deciding on what exactly to put where to make the hideout look exactly like how I see it mentally. It took quite a bit of trial and error, and I learnt a lot more about composition too!
As a bonus, new "secret" resource turns out to be very helpful in specific poses like this!

This one is a full environmental piece that took me a while to start getting to proper grips with! Normally as a (mostly) character drawing guy, the complete lack of a character in composition does force one to think quite hard on how to arrange things.
For once, I'm quite happy with the results honestly!
As always, thank you so much for all your kind support, and let me know of any questions you have below :)

The first process video is up! Very fortunately, I was able to record the process breakdown and discussion much earlier this month.
I've got 5 videos lined up this time round, 1 for each piece in the recent set. I hope this format could be a viable one as it allows things to come out earlier in the month and in more digestible chunks rather than a huge block of 2 hours. The thumbnail artwork will also be a lot more "accurate" to the content as it will be the exact subject of the video t...

This set was ROUGH (in a good way)! It was a lot tougher and I've never recalled facing as many moments in a single set wondering if I could get to to all come together. Strangely, it has really brought a sense of life and motivation back for me after the past couple months of slump, almost like I found something worth drawing again!
Planning out this particular scene, I wanted to make sure to challenge myself to not run away from any detail - rather than planning scenes around drawin...
