We’re making another resin weapon…

…And this time, it’s a sword! We’ve wanted to make a resin sword for a really long time, but we’ve been intimidated by a couple big things: 1) the thought of making a silicone mold of a sword, and 2) not having a pressure pot we could fit a sword into.

Well, we finally found a sword we could buy that could be disassembled and has a flat edge so we can sit it upright when mold making so that solves issue 1.

It’s (basically) finished!!!

We finally finished dipping the water marble keyboard! This ended up being a MUCH bigger project than expected due to the seemingly endless small scale tests (we did even more after the last post!) But we’re really happy with how our final dips turned out.

So if you want a little sneaky peeky preview, here’s how the final keyboard pieces look! You can see we have it broken down into the letter/number keys which were dipped as one chunk, the “accent” keys which were dipped as ano...

Usually when we do small scale tests, we get hands-on practice in a low pressure way, we test several variables, and end the small scale tests feeling like we’ve learned something and are somewhat more prepared to go full-scale.

That has not been the case for our water marble keyboard haha. We tested a BUNCH of variables to see how they affect the final result, and it’s honestly SO HARD to duplicate results that it makes us wonder are we actually learning things, or is 90% of it up ...

Evan found a “microwave kiln” that lets you MELT GLASS in your microwave. What?!? YES this is a thing. And it can melt glass to 1600 degrees F!

And yes, we tried it and it works!

We FINALLY got to add COLOR!!!!

It feels like so much was leading up to this moment!!!! Our *hope* going into it was that all the hard parts were over. That only proved to be partially true haha. We're starting a nostalgic project!

Did y’all ever do paint-by-numbers growing up? Well we got to thinking about them recently and had the thought “what if we could do a paint-by-numbers… with RESIN!?” We figured we could laser cut some clear acrylic to make individual “cells” that we could pour colored resin into, after making a design and a color guide. So of course for the design, we wanted to do a Joob. And I was inspired by my childhood love of Lisa Frank to do a Lisa Frank inspired Joob design!!!

ANOTHER Joobie project we’re squeezing in

Hey guys! We did a SECOND Joobie project, on the second channel! We tried making her some DIY cat treats. (We were careful about cat-safe ingredients and all that). We tried one baked treat, one blended treat, and what liquid treat, just to have a little variety.

WE DID IT and wow it’s been a MARATHON. Before I reveal the final keyboard (spoiler alert btw) let me just appreciate our new pressure pot friend for a second.

How projects spiral out of control (scope creep)

We were sooooo confident about how quickly we were moving through this project. Last time we checked in with y’all, we had completed all the keys except the white letter keys, meaning we were almost done. Then we thought maybe we’ll just *test* carve a few on the CNC and see how they look with letters and numbers engraved (something we weren’t going to do initially because it would take so long). The ghost hunting video is finally being edited!

I had to look it up, our last update on this project was in early December, shortly after we filmed it, and at the time I was like “yeah hopefully it’ll be edited by Q1 hahaha" Is it still Q1? I think it might be Q2 now…

We had so many existing 2nd channel videos on the docket for our editors so this one got put on the backburner for a little while, but I’m SO excited for it to go live. Mainly, I hope people like the video enough to justify doing this again at new locations!! Sp...
