A Further Look at the JVC LCCS Monitor (Connextras)

A link to a thing!

https://youtu.be/BrwkGT5452E

December has gotten off to kind of a slow start, if I'm honest. I've been unable to make a lot of progress on much of anything due to various reasons I shall not bore you with, but in the meantime here is a second channel follow-up which also features a heavy dose of Epcot. So you know it's good!

Do Things December isn't necessarily the best name, I know, but ...

HONK!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adD5oC2asXI

This video is much silly. Lots honking. No effort!

Just to warn you, there's a loud noise near the 3:14 mark, though there is an on-screen warning as well.

And also, since my scheduling brain-parts have been fired up enough today to make any sense, CED part 4 is probably gonna be the video after the next. I figured I would...

Now before you think that this video is completely devoid of substance, well first of all let me tell you that you're mostly right. However! I tried to let myself go here and got pretty silly. I even made myself laugh a few times. Not if that isn't self-congratulatory I don't know what is!

I know it's a little early to be thinking about decorating for t...

It's VHS vs. Beta Again! And this time, it's about the cassettes

Happy No Effort November!

https://youtu.be/hWl9Wux7iVY

I have a little thing about Beta and VHS that I've had bouncing around in my brain for a while. And now, it's a video! I went a little overboard getting B-roll for this, so much for "no effort", but I can say that the script was very much a no-brainer. As in, my brain didn't work too hard. Just more Beta-bashing. I can't help it, it's fun!

November Nonsense

Hey hey, Happy Halloween! It's been snowing quite a lot here in Illinois. Got about 3.5 inches (in the ballpark of 10 cm) on the ground here at headquarters. This is the only time in my memory where we've had snow on Halloween! Usually the first snow is insignificant, and well into November. Not this year! Now, I certainly had my fair share of cold, rainy, or otherwise dreadful deliberately-asking-for-candy-from-strangers sessions as a kid, but the children of 2019 sure are having a terribly ...

CED Part Three

Here it is!

https://youtu.be/hpwLDQSadE4

There is SO much to tell in this story, and since this is mostly... a story, unfortunately there's not a whole lot of imagery in this one. Honestly, if you wanted to, you could almost consider this a podcast.  But, I tried to pepper in some relevant imagery, news coverage, or RCA promo footage where I could.

Since this is much more of a story and less of a demon...

A Quick Video about Displays (and featuring a weird one)

Well, October's gotten off to a slower start than I wanted but I was happy to have a bit of fun with this one!

https://youtu.be/iyaGDLBsmdY

It's definitely less researched than most of my projects. And a tad bit sillier. But hopefully entertaining!

CED Part 3 is almost certainly going to be the next project completed. I'm nearly finished with the book I've been reading on it and want to dedicate the remaind...

Yeah... I shot this a long time ago but due to me repeatedly forgetting to tell my computer to no go to sleep while it uploaded, ehh it just didn't happen until now. Yay!

This is long, rambly, and at times, the result of forgotten caffeination. Is it entertaining? Maybe. Is it informative? I guess. Is it polished? Ha! No.

This is SO COOL! And it's a fairly quick topic, for once!

I never knew that the CBS color wheel system was... kind of anyway actually put into production! Here's a look at JVC's LCCS video monitor.

The CED, Part 2

Hello hello hello and good morning to you,

Please enjoy Part 2 of the CED saga!

https://youtu.be/mSFwyM2L5h4

I normally have a thumbnail and the description done before I post this, but I wanted to rush the posting here on Patreon because I intend to make this public tomorrow. I usually like to have more time between release here and release to the planet-at-large, but I had a number of setbacks this week (...

The 2nd RCA VideoDisc Intro

I love this clip. So much. It exudes... such confidence.

This intro bumper replaced the original one roughly a year after the CED system was released, so most RCA-produced discs (well, they were all RCA-produced, but those which were *officially* RCA-produced what with their brand on there and all) from 1982 onward start with this delightful, and honestly surprisingly modern-looking intro.

I've uploaded this as a copyright test as it's a little long. Honestly, n...

We're bringing the magic home! WITH RCA!!!!

https://youtu.be/PnpX8d8zRIA

I teased this ages ago, and now I finally made it! And it will be a two-parter. This story is... weird. And we've only scratched the surface here. In part 2, I'll explore why RCA kept on developing this, and probably go deeper into the player since I didn't do much with this video.

This story gets weirder the more I learn about it, and...

I have spotted the "easter" typo and, well, I'm gonna let that stay. It amuses me.

Greetings and salutations.

OK, I messed up. Phew. Got that out of the way.

No really, the way I planned the month of August and the way the month of August actually happened just... disagreed. It's entirely my fault because I'm frankly bad at estimating how long things are going to take. Nevertheless, I'm annoyed with myself.

The clicky switches video was made very down-to-the-wire. I knew that in August I'd be doing some traveling with family and so I wanted to tackle some ...

2nd Channel Video-Discussing the death of the Chevy Volt Concept

I had these thoughts recently, and while I am fairly confident that bigger batteries are the right direction, I've also begun to wonder if perhaps an improved Volt would actually reduce emissions faster because we could conceivably build more of them sooner, and not have people worrying about range anxiety. It also provides an opportunity for people to learn the limits of EVs without ever being challenged by the limits of an EV, and there's a lot of value there.

It's long, rambly, and v...

TOSLINK part 2

Well, this sure is a... video. With a lot of... things in it.

Yeah, I'm more than a little nervous about this video because it is way more speculative than any I've ever made. And also there's a lot of silliness in the beginning. But! Hopefully it's fun enough to be worthwhile.

I still have to do all the YouTube stuff like captions, cards, and the end screen, so if you watch it within the next day or so those won't be there. I'll be adding this after I get a little break away from...

Let's look at TOSLINK!

When I came up with the idea for this video, I wanted it to be more about what I tease at the end (exploring why TOSLINK is pretty much the only time fiber optics got any traction in the consumer space) but, of course, there's just so much to talk about in the first place that I'll be addressing that next!

I figured I share something that I've been holding onto for a few years.

When I was working for Disney on my College Program in 2014, I took it upon myself to go to Epcot many times to film IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth with a little Nikon camera and a tripod. I wanted to record this because at that point, the show was already 15 years o...

https://youtu.be/ZC5Zr3NC2PY

I didn't mention in the original post that I rendered this at 1080p60 so that the analog smoothness is all there. And also that I done goofed and recorded the talking head and some of the B-roll at 24 frames per second because I was doing a test and forgot to switch it back. So hooray! That thumbnail's a little edgy. But it's not only true from an argumentative perspective, but also from a literal perspective, so it's kinda pun-like so I'm obviously very proud.

I'm fairly sure someone had asked me to make a video about this, but I can't for the life of me remember who or through what channel they reached out to me. And this is a good way to dip my toes into air conditioning, a topic I very much want to explore in greater detail.

You've convinced me to re-organize the video's concept. In fact, now that I think about it, my initial concept would have been quite a boring first video.

Firstly the next video will not be on Teletext. I've settled that in my mind. I'll be doing something completely different next, largely because the Teletext video has been quickly turning into a nightmare of misinterpreted expectations. You see, as I explained in the latest video update, I'm trying to make a video on something I understand technically,...
