Aug 16 - Mau5

This week was a condensed session that took an unexpected direction. I started off with some anthem progressive house in mind but ended up going in more of a Deadmau5-influenced direction. That said, I really like how this sounds and I can definitely see myself revisiting this.

Overall, it's very simple: A decent chord progression with a subtle melody on top, simplistic synths, drums, and a decent bass/pluck to carry the vibe throughout. I don't think I'd add much more, but this idea wi...

Aug 9 - I'll Be Here

This week, I returned to progressive house. I wanted to right something simple and uplifting. This song is short and to-the-point and written with a vocal in mind. There are a lot of things to add (like automation, sound design, fills, ambience, and more), but I think the essence of this one is pretty cool!

I like this one, but what do you think? - Do you enjoy these shorter songs (it is what most artists are releasing these days, after all)? Do like the uplifting and/or progres...

Aug 2 - Call Me Sometime

This week's session, I had no plan going in. A jazzy piano chord progression turned into downtempo lofi house with some deep house influences. As the idea progressed, I added in a lot familiar AN layers as well as a spoken word vocal sample. It's relatively simple, but I really like how this turned out and I can see myself finishing this one at some point.

What do you think? - Should I finish this one? Is this style cool and does it feel new or different? And do you like the voc...

July 27 - Missing You

I began yesterday's session with every intention of writing something "different" but inspiration took hold and this direction felt the most natural. I like this idea, but it does feel dated. Maybe that's okay?

There are still lots of rough edges to smooth out, but I'd like to return to this at some point. But given that I wrote & released a whole lot of similar music last year, I don't think I'll be returning to it soon.

What do you think? - Is this song cool? Does it...

New Release - The View From Here

Looking back, Mount Olympus is one of my songs I'm most proud of. It's relatively simple, but the underlying themes are very powerful. I've often thought of writing more like Mount Olympus and maybe releasing them together...

The View From Here is a collection of melodic dubstep songs focused on the underlying & adjacent themes I wrote about in Mount Olympus. Mount Elbert is probably the closest thing to a 'sequel' to Mount Olympus and the rest of the songs touch on some of...

July 19 - A Voice in the Distance

Yesterday's session had some ups and downs. I love the chord progression and overall vibe, but I spent ~2 hours trying everything to get the song to gel only to find out the bass was using the 3rd note of the chords instead of the route. As soon as I changed that, everything clicked into to place. I spent 5 hrs on this and I think it shows. It's a solid idea and I will definitely be returning to it.

But what do you think? Do you want me to finish this one? And do you want to see...

July 12 - A Time, Before

Continuing with some ideas in different genres and at different tempos, I really like this one. I started with a piano chord progression, slowed the tempo to around 100bpm, and chose a different drum beat. Similar to last week, I think this sounds new but still like me.

It's interesting and I think I'd like to finish this one. Not sure I'd release it, but what do you think? Do you like...

July 5 - Starside

This month, I'm moving on to the 2nd poll option - a genre I've never tried before. I started out with a piano chord progression and a ~90bpm vibe. I kept the melody simple, went with a 4-on-the-floor kick, and added a slap-house style bass. Adding in some modular vibes and extra layers I ended up with what you hear above.

It's pretty cool! I like this idea and I think it could be a good supporting song on an EP/Album that has a similar vibe tonally. I may return for a session at some p...

Vinyl's Ordered - What's Next?

The vinyl's are now in production!

I put together another mockup so you can get a better idea of what size the designs will be on a 7" vinyl. Production time for the vinyls is currently late-September/early October (hoping for sooner, but we'll see) and I'll be reaching out in August/September for address confirmations!

So what's next? - I want to get working on the Fall/Winter Merch run so I can get those items to you before the holidays. I have some ideas on wha...

June 27 - Retrofit

This week I'm continuing with the intense progressive house vibes. This idea has some ~2015 Big Room influences, but I wanted to include some orchestral drums in the build and a more current future bounce-style drop. Hence the name "Retrofit".

I think this is a pretty cool idea! The drop is interesting, though it needs a lot of cleaning up and some better sound design. And I think the pacing of the song works very well. I can see myself returning for another session on this one, but I'm...

June 21 - Solar Signal

This week I set out to write something with heavy inspiration from Aurora. Some orchestral influences combined with intense progressive house as well as a similarly structured melody. It's not amazing, but I think it turned out pretty decent.

This something that I would return to for another session, but I'm not sure if I'd finish it. But what do you think? - Do you like this idea? Is it too similar to Aurora? And do you want me to finish this one? Let me know in the comments View Post

June 14 - Incoming

I'm back at it this week and based on the recent poll, I set out to write something darker, more intense, and higher energy. I'm digging these darker vibes and I'm pretty happy with how this first idea turned out.

I only had time to write the intro, verse, and build during my session but I think it's a strong start. I really like the tone in the beginning and the cinematic vibes during the bui...

June/July Music Poll

Been a minute since we've done one of these. This time around I'm including both genre options and tone/emotion options. I'm giving myself a bit more flexibility and will have the option to write in either the top-voted genre or the top-voted tone/emotion.

Vote below on what kind of music I'll be writing for June & July!!

On a side note - I'm taking this week to try and finish up some projects so no WIP post this week. Have a great rest o...

May 31 - Sonar

This week I'm back to writing electronic music. I set out to write a simple house idea with minimal piano that didn't have any plucks in it. Too often, I rely on familiar things and I thought it would be fun to switch it up.

I like what I came up with. It's simple, but there's a lot of subtleties throughout. This might go nicely with a simple, ethereal vocal on top. It's definitely on my list to return to. What do you think? This one's a bit different... do you like it? And woul...

Last Call for Vinyl!

Just a quick reminder that TODAY is the last day to qualify for the vinyl as a Creative Crew!

Since it's already late today, I'm making the cutoff midnight tomorrow. In order to qualify you need to be creative crew by that time tomorrow.

I'll be sending out address confirmations to everyone next week.

Thanks as always and have a great night!

May 24 - From the Void and Beyond

I wanted a change of pace this week, so I wrote something cinematic. I wanted to write something depicting a battle of some sort, but it evolved into this. It's still missing some things, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I'm not sure how I would release cinematic music nowadays since it doesn't do very well under Approaching Nirvana. Despite that, I can see myself returning to finish this one at some point. But what do you think? Are you interested in cinematic stuff...

Merch Update - Vinyl Production & Timeline

First off - March 31 was the cutoff for ANimal tiers to qualify for the vinyls. The only way to qualify now is to be a part of the Creative Crew this month before I place the order. There are 5 slots left and the final cutoff for Creative Crew is May 31 - I’ll send one last reminder the last week of May.

Second - an update on lathe cut vs normal vinyl.
As I’ve been in contact with a few different vinyl companies before placing the order, I’ve f...

May 17 - Overthink

After writing a decent chord progression on stream yesterday, I tried 2 separate ideas - Old school AN House (Evolve style - like "Our Last Night") and DnB. I really like both ideas but I think the house one is a bit stronger.

Both ideas need a lot of work to really shine, but I think they have promise. Which direction is your favorite? - House or DnB? Is the "Our Last Night" style of house something you'd like to see more of? And lastly - what do you think of a "dual release"? ...

May 10 - Overcast

I wanted to write something different this week so I returned to a style I've written a lot of over the last few years - piano/progressive house. During the session I was  more granular than usual, experimenting with a few new things to get some drum layers and FX going. Overall, I think the idea came together nicely.

I do like this, but this style isn't at the top of my list to return to since I've just released an entire album like it (ie - Blocking the Sky Redux). The lead melod...

The Legend of Zelda - Great Fairy Fountain Remix

Time for a surprise remix! I wasn't originally planning anything this week, but I was listening to a Zelda playlist, this came on, and I thought it would make a really good chill remix!

Downloads are attached & I hope you all enjoy the music. Thanks as always for the support - have a great weekend!

May 3 - Tell Me Why

This week is another idea that I'm pretty excited about. Like last week, this came together pretty nicely. I am worried that it sounds a little too close to the last week's idea, but I would like to try and finish both.

I think the intro/verse in this song is a bit more atmospheric/cinematic and the drop is different enough that I think these 2 songs can stand on their own. Overall I feel...

Apr 26 - Phoenix

This week I'm continuing with some uplifting house. This idea is simple, but I really like it. The drop needs some love but it's already pretty good. And with some adjustments I think the verses and builds will really fill things out.

Writing ideas like this (and last week's idea) are a breath of fresh air. Don't get me wrong; I love writing chill, laidback, melodic stuff. But it's been a lot ...

Apr 19 - Tears of the Sky

This week I set out to write something uplifting and memorable. It's been awhile since I've written in this style so it felt like a good time to return to it. I started out with some basic chords and a melody in mind, put a rough drop together and arranged the idea into something resembling a song.

I think this turned out really well. It's missing a lot but I think it's strong even at this stage and I can see myself returning to it. What do you think? - Do you like this idea? Do...

New Release - I Don't Wanna Go

Time for another song! This song started out as "Nebulous" back in July of 2022. I really liked the chillstep/future chill vibe and I wanted to see it through to completion. In my final sessions, I added some vocal bits that really tied together the concept. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out and I hope you enjoy it! This song is available to Patrons today and releases for free for everyone t...

Apr 12 - Alleviate

This week's session was very structured compared to ideas over the last few months. I started out with a pretty specific goal in mind and the idea came together nicely. I spent the bulk of the session putting together drum layers and I'm very happy with how those came out.

I like this idea, but it's not my favorite. There are some really interesting ideas in here but I'm not sure I will return any time soon (I might repurpose the drums though). But what do you think? - Do you li...

April 5 - Mountain Starlight

This week I wanted to try a different vibe. One of the main things I don't switch up often is drums - I write mostly in 3 genres (house/trance, Dubstep/Future Bass, DnB) and the drums there follow a pretty standard pattern. So I started out writing a different type of beat, added some chords, and arranged from there.

I like how this sounds. It's different, and right now I need the change of pace. I hope to write some more different stuff in the coming weeks - so let me know what type of...

March 29 - Morse Code

This week I wanted to switch things up so set out to write something more intense. I started with drums, then bass, and finally a melody. This idea has a pretty strong foundation and I think it turned out pretty good!

I can definitely see myself returning to this idea in the future, but what do you think? Are the more intense and upbeat songs something you enjoy? And would you like to see more of this? Let me know in the comments!
