Flip a Coin

...or 100 million of them. I'm not going to gripe about how pricey things are getting in-game. Norrath has been good to me over the years but I still take a deep breath whenever I click the buy button on the Broker and watch all those zillions of plat disappear.

A fertile in-game economy brings with it certain challenges, and I'm reminded of Scrooge McDuck's vault and his wheelbarrows overflowing with coins. Surely there are more efficient ways of handling all that dough.

A Tooltip Tip

No matter which size UI you're using, almost all of the odd bits and pieces like conversation bubbles, examine windows and signage, are scaled appropriately. But one important part of the UI that you can resize without help from DarqUI is complex tooltips. Those are the ones for spells, recipes, etc., that contain a colorful variety of text labels and icons -- not your typical simple text tooltip that only contains one label.

If you've never changed this setting, then i...

Heroics Work Here

Way back in July we first started talking about a groovy new way to do Heroic Opportunities, and the custom HO window designed by Clintsat has been well-received since it was published in November. (Here is more info and some pics of the HO window in case you missed it.) Since then, Darq Side m...

When Min/Maxing Goes Bad

Here's a new option for a DarqUI-modified component. If you've been in Discord you may have noticed that Darq Side member chief was having a devil of a time with his Mercenary window not long ago. Chief likes everything including his UI to be just so (we can thank his occupation for that!) The problem with his Mercenary window was that it seemed to randomly select a new spot on screen upon logging in... sometimes.

We tried several experiments but could ...

Blind Hog Finds Two Acorns in One Week

A couple of days ago I posted that borderless fullscreen window mode is now internal to the game, so for many players the controls found in the DarqUI utility and Notifier app would no longer be necessary. Any time we can reduce complexity it's a welcome change, and this is no exception.

Today Darq Side member Freddy alerted me to a related development that I had...

A Familiar Feature

We've been able to summon and switch preconfigured mounts (and appearance mounts if you're a patron) from the Icon Bar or with a hotkey for a while now. And in fact our current Tip of the Week demonstrates Remote Mount Presets.

Darq Side member Arderath mentioned in Discord that setting up buffs, gear, mount, familiar, etc., for tradeskilling versus adventuring was a bit less automatic than it could be, since the familiar preset still had to be cast from the Charac...

Make a Run for the Borderless!

Every now and then the stars line up just right and a blind hog finds an acorn. Take a look at the screenshot above. Recently a borderless fullscreen checkbox was added to the Options window. Thank you, Darkpaw Games!

If you have been using the DarqUI utility or notifier app to switch into fullscreen windowed mode, you can of course continue to do so, although for many players who prefer this setting the new internal option will mean one less thing to d...

Time and Time Again

Recently, Darq Side member Meisa was wondering aloud in Discord about where she could find Norrath time in numerical form. I've always been partial to the sun-and-moon clock for its imprecise, fantasy oriented representation of game time. You can mouse over that to see Norrath and Earth times on the tooltip, but Meisa was correct that we had no place to see the exact hour of the Norrathian day at a glance.

A new refinement to the Clock window is availab...

January Waypoints

We should start referring to age as Levels, so when you hit "Lvl 90" it sounds more badass than just getting old.

DarqUI 2K/4K: You Have Discovered...

Here are two of those often-seen components that have finally gotten the L/XL treatment. Achievement Completed and the Onscreen Message pop-up (You have discovered Antonica!) I've always gotten a kick out of the name Onscreen Message. Of course it's onscreen. The alternative would be...?

Help Has Arrived

With the release of Visions of Vetrovia this month, the game developers decided to remove the in-game browser, at least for now. You could argue that it's not much of a loss, since the browser client was so outdated and miserable that it was next to useless anyway.

But the game and DarqUI had both relied on the browser to render Help pages internally, and it did a reasonably good job with that. You may have noticed lately that opening the Help window no...

Never Say Never

All players who use DarqUI can choose bags and containers with disappearing titlebars, but Darq Side members have some extra nifty choices as seen in this video. Recently Rosyposy and I were discussing the bag window, and she mentioned that she preferred the titlebar-less bags from another author.

Rosy's issue was not that the DarqUI disappearing titlebars are a problem, but that she...

Off to a Big Start

One of ProfitUI's signature components is the Start Button mod which offers nine macro-like icons that perform one-click operations such as hiding pets, displaying the lockout timer window, and so on. By default the icons are displayed in a 3x3 layout, although the window can be resized to arrange them vertically or horizontally.

ProfitUI CE player Avenn suggested in Discord recently that the icons seem a bit small, and no doubt other players with highe...

Guild Got Big and Split!

Okay I'll admit it. That title is clickbait. But it's true, sort of. The Guild window got big, as in L and XL sizes have been added to the premium server. Would you believe there are 27 custom files involved in the Guild window? You can see a couple of the more obvious ones in the first pic above. Recruiting and guild point settings, rank renaming, editing the MOTD... there's quite a bit of UI surrounding the main window.

Scaling up the Guild window has been as...

ProfitUI Community Edition Utility v1.0.0.2

Please note: you do not have to be a patron in order to use ProfitUI Community Edition Utility. It is freely available to everyone who uses ProfitUI CE.

Hello ProfitUI CE players! It's been several years since your updater has seen any changes, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. With the Visions of Vetrovia game expansion and some recent internal improvements to EQ2MAP's database, it's the perfect time to offer you a new and improved ProfitUI_CE U...

DarqUI v3.1.3.0

Hello Darq Siders! A new version of the DarqUI utility is available on eq2interface.com, and it comes with some important internal changes as well as some nifty new features.

Updates

Both DarqUI and EQ2MAP use new methods to communicate with the update servers. Why? Efficiency and security. You can read more details about the 2021-11-28 03:18:36 +0000 UTC View Post

After the Pumpkin Pie

One of our Thanksgiving traditions is to go around the table(s) and talk about something from the past year that we're thankful for. I was almost the last one, so by the time we got to me we had heard all about kids, home, friends, Lego blocks, football, getting past this year's health issues, many good things. Most of the folks were not aware of our little community, so I had fun explaining my answer: Darq Siders!

It's always a great time to say thank you for your patr...

Pet Project

Here's one of those mini-improvements that I think pet classes will approve of. It's pretty straightforward: click-to-cure pet detriment placeholder icons. They're almost transparent and they don't appear all the time -- only during combat and when you mouse over the Pet window. Click the screenshot above to take a look.

So instead of that nebulous blank area under the pet controls your eye can predict exactly where those detriments will appear. Try it! User-friendliness +1. My baby con...

Maintained Maintenance

The DarqUI Maintained window is a little bit different from most of our other windows because it doesn't have Normal, Large and X-Large sizes to download separately. It's been designed to resize internally depending on the icon size that you set in Window Manager. I wish all the windows could work like that, but Maintained is one of a few special cases that can gracefully handle internal resizing.

Previously, we had three distinct font groups that would be displayed depending upon the i...

New Custom Window: Overseer

The Overseer (Minions) feature has gotten some refinements since it was introduced about two years ago, but a UI complaint that's never been addressed by the developers is the short mission viewer pane that only lets you see about four missions at a time. The custom DarqUI version is resizable in both directions so you can see a lot more missions at once.

Found It

Mercenary Search is indeed a thing, and the button to open it is in the Character window on the pop-out Mercenary Stats sidebar. Not exactly my favorite place to put it, but there is also a command, /merc_search, that will surface the window.

Even though Mercenary Search looks pretty rough right now, it does work and it appears to be a nice addition. Almost all of the mercs listed go by their first names only, and you get an extra button that will show a waypoint wisp i...

Casting About

Here's one of those mini-improvements that you might find useful. Like many of us, Darq Side member Forestchild is a former ProfitUI user and he was missing the ability to cancel a spellcast by clicking on the casting bar. He tried dropping the ProfitUI window into DarqUI, but making that work is like trying to solve a Chinese puzzle blindfolded. So the best solution was to purloin the feature. (*casts Stealth*)

Horsing Around

Here's a new premium-only improvement to a popular DarqUI feature: Appearance Mount Presets. Now you can optionally assign an Appearance mount to summon each time you use a Mount Preset. I've been champing at the bit for you to try it out, so get the download and let me know what you think!

Right out of the gate, setup should be reasonably intuitive since it works the same as setting up a standard preset. Appearance mounts go by ID number, starting with zero, just like standard mounts. ...
