The earth is spinning off the last tarry plaque of 2021, hopefully dissipating it into the embrace of space to never be remembered again. My end of the year will be spent hiding under a blanket with an ice-cream bucket on my head with the word "WAR DOME" written across it in glitter-pen.
Today I wanted to try out some new updates that Clip Studio released recently. If I were a normal artist I'd be going out of my mind that CSP has a liquify tool, which I do think is neat, bu...

The last 'painting' of the year. And it's been a hell of a year for.. basically everyone.
I went a little more illustrative with this one. It was supposed to be an 'early fall' picture though as autumn became nearly 6 weeks of hospital visits and a month of various specialist/doctor visits after that, there was no way I was getting this done during that time.
So a later autumn picture it is. And she's still incredibly proud of her little shop.
As an aside, ...

I've been making an effort to go through old art folders. I've wanted to start organizing things a little better, but I also have a lot of art and characters that have been largely consigned to the bit-rot folder inside my skull, often forever lost to the void that is the failed neurological meatball that is my brain.
This image is one such find. It was in a folder labeled 'comic2' and apparently I had planned on some kind of mini black-and-white comic featuring the gnomish ...

Amidst the sheer chaos that October threw my way I was given the chance to draw a character with possibly one of the best names for a goat. Popcorn, walking over the bridge out of town to watch nature rain it's last leaves of the season.
A calm picture for hopefully calmer days ahead. It was s joy to draw.

I've been poking away at this picture's colours for a while now, and managed to get the inkwash done this morning over coffee.
The signs are all still temporary, and not everything was detailed out yet, but I've got the basic colours down.
I've got such a massive backlog of things to ink and colour after I finish the patron illustration for this month. I'm definitely far, far ahead on sketches I can pick from to say the least.

I had chance to find some old writing I did back when I ran ttrpg games and found some of it to be kind of amusing to read over, some of it to be utterly confusing, and some of it to at least toss a slight sense of worldbuilding that I had forgotten about.
I've pretty much sworn off of doing ttrpg stuff ever again. Some reasons are personal, others are attributed to the below post that kind of proves that I honestly just could not shut up when it came to exposition. There's ...

I was going through a reference folder that was mostly trees and fences for a Patron sketch I'm doing and had a folder that wasn't named in there. Just 'new folder'. I figured I must have made a sub-folder for something else and either just forgot to label it or never used it.
I was going to just send it to the trash, and checked it to make sure there wasn't anything in it. This picture, along with a couple reference images of old stone walls was inside.

I've been doing all sorts of warm-up sketches over the last week and a bit. These are always unstructured, and loose, and often just random things to keep the pen moving.
I had to include Hyrahyttia the Kobold, a character I had forgotten about, and who just had to have a sketch of her own. She's the world's most helpful kobold, though very few people take her up on the offer. She's got a big heart at least.
Don't forget to stock up on sponges for Halloween. &nbs...

Its a bit hard to believe October is nearly over now. This year the fall has been a bit of a blur for the same reasons its been fairly stressful.
Today marks a month since my father had to head to the hospital. He's out now, and is doing far better than he was even just a week ago.
I guess the month just feels like it's a little more grey since we won't be doing Halloween this year. At least not in the traditional sense. The plagued have spiked the vi...

I'm sorry posts have been a bit slow for the first part of the month. We're still in this transition period regarding my father's health. There's just this string of complications going on with him, and he's still in the hospital as entire teams (plural) try to assess how he's doing, and I've been going back and forth to visit him.
It could be another couple weeks of trying to figure things out. Whether he can come back home with medical assistance (probably the best s...

What was the old saying? "When it rains, container ships filled with thumbtacks and dynamite will fall on your house."
..Or it might have been something about 'pouring'.
However its been a fairly chaotic four days. I had to push back work again after my father had a medical episode at his dialysis clinic on Saturday, and ended up having to be brought to the ER again.

A really rough sketch of an idea I had of the 'trio' (gnome, lorrnath and khettu) arriving back at their home-town.
I like the idea that the three have homes in or near a township. I personally started to get a bit bored of the 'wandering explorers who have no home, and live out of motels despite having power and heaps of money.' that sometimes becomes a permanent theme with fantasy parties.
Its not a _bad_ theme, mind you. Its just one that I've seen so many ti...

I was incredibly late finishing this illustration for July's list-patron due to the wild-hospital-ride (tm) at the end of that month and beginning of August. However they were supremely understanding, and very gracious in giving me the time to finish this image properly.
I was given a bit of an open canvas to work with for this character, and I loved the suggestion of her perhaps being as student at one of the academies in the world. Though what academy wouldn't have at leas...

Each day, more little yellow leafs are on the ground.
The resounding 'eee' in my head is as palpable as is the nearly vibrating excitement of a small, pumpkin-attuned and draconic-horned lorrnath.
I've been in a bit of a 'block' for the greater part of about 4 or more months now. Setting the sudden and chaotic family health situation aside, I just generally felt a big disconnect with not only the weird little world I write in, but with the entire genre of fantasy in general....

I was given the distinct pleasure of doing some artwork for Mr. Steve G (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/mrsteveg) and had the image hovering around the 'finished but needs some tweaking' mark for about 3 weeks, as my father became pretty gravely ill about mid-production.

This week, my father has a chance to be released from hospital. While they found a multitude of problems going on with him, he's doing much better, is far more alert, they still found a 'leak' he's got inside his stomach that's not staunched yet, but the hope is that they can do another 'clamp' to get the little fiend under control.

I'm really not loving the fact that I have to write another 'Bad News Bears' post after finally getting some creative juice going again this month.
The short of it: I'm going to be late starting the next patron sketch this month.

I wanted to go with a more illustrative style for this one. Something with lines left in that make their own 'texture'. I'm not good at stopping at stages like this. I tend to try and overwork it and end up just spending a week painting something, but I liked the 'rougher' look of this that still conveys the time of day.
I had a write-up on Berrand to post along with this, sadly I ended up closing the file and.. it didn't save since I'd added to it. I'll end up r...

It's been a bit of a wild month in these parts. Whatever wasn't cooking alive in obscene temperatures was on fire and billowing smoke, and we've seen so little rain that the leaves are falling off the trees and the lawn is nearly dead.
But today I got a rare chance to sketch again. I chose a bit of a nightmare idea to try and get into the swing of drawing again. An image with four people, at two distances, of very different heights. I'm not sure why I was masochi...

A preview of one of the colour works I'm trying to get done for this month. I went with a more 'dusk' setting for this, figuring it would be at the end of the workday instead of mid-day.
I may post a bit of Berrand's story when I get more of this done and post the nearer-to-finished results later on in the month. I've nearly never really talked about him outside a vague sentence or two here and there in the past.
