The Dressing Room - Sketch

Somewhere in my personal canon there's a dressing room attended by a Seamstress who has access to a variety of costumes, outfits, prosthetics, wigs, makeup and equipment.

So I decided to draw the scenario, and play 'dress up' within it.  It's been so far a great technical exercise to draw a mirror version of everything. But I kinda got carried away with what exactly to decide on for dressing up...and I asked my lovely supporters for inspiration too.

Hot Waxxx

Months ago just after having started this project I asked my wife for a suggestive-but-open-to-interpretation drawing prompt.

She simply said "Hot Wax".

That stumped me.

I couldn't work it out. I didn't want to paint something too literal or obvious.  Asking for an alternative prompt would be a failure and I promised myself I would honour the suggestion, even if it might take some time.

So I sat on it and moved ahead and painted many other works.

Sirens

After the huge undertaking that was the last commission, I decided to just dive in and paint some latex mermaids.  (And I'll admit there's a little inspiration from Michael Manning's excellent 1996 graphic novel Hydrophidian in there.)  I think I had as much fun designing and painting the characters in the background scene as I did the girls in the tank, so I may sometime have to revisit those ladies and tell their stories.

Sirens - progression & background characters

I'm working back-to-front on the current piece and was struck by the stories I'm telling in the background of the piece - they're not the focus of the painting and will likely be a little obscured by the water in the tank but I had so much fun painting them I thought I'd share. Maybe I'll visit their stories later some time.

Commission : Neon_Noir's POV

Finally I get to share this piece with you.

Earlier this month Neon_Noir got in touch to commission this piece - a host of vintage latex nurses prepping to inflict some devious torment on a helpless rubber-clad superhero.

This was a very detailed brief with a lot of specific requirements and required a LOT of planning before I could get to painting.  And there were a few revisions and additions towards the end as I got everything balanced.

Sirens - Sketch

While I'm still waiting to wrap on my most recent commission, I decided to start on a new painting for myself (and all of you shiny people) - "Sirens"

I've wanted to do a take on a mermaid (and also inspired by Michael Manning's "Hydrophidian" graphic novel - if you can find a copy, buy it)  and also do some more couture latex illustrations.  So, that's what I decided to do.

Painting Neon_Noir's POV Commission

Many apologies for not posting for a while but I've been very busy painting this BEAST of a painting for Neon_Noir.

The requirements were very specific and while they didn't quite include a cast of thousands, there were a lot of latex vintage nurse costumes to paint and a lot of planning in the environment and how to arrange every idea they wanted to incorporate in the scene.

Mistress Sidonia

Baby Doll - Last Steps

These are a couple more of the WIP steps on Baby Doll.  Having finished the main figure I painted up the various versions of head gear and breast coverings (as I always have to think of Instagram.)

With that done, I jumped into the background with the nurses, and then the arrangement of masks.

After that it was fairly straightforward to block in the bed and then the background behind, with a final balancing pass on the lighting.

Baby Doll

I decided to have a go at painting a multi-layered transparent latex outfit, so I came up with Baby Doll.  My process ended up seeing me paint each individual layer of clothing on a separate layer in Clip Studio, working from inside out so that the effect of multiple layers of transparency would stack up.

Baby Doll - Flats & Progress

As this painting is about lots of layers of transparent latex I decided to structure my flat colour layers for each item of clothing so I could work from the inside out with the painting.  So I began with a nude layer, and then layers on top for each item of clothing.

I wanted to do a quick little painting after the complex commission of Mistress Michelle Lacy and a weekend of putting together a website.  So, I thought I'd create a simple composition and go for it.

A Little Bit of Gratitude

Just a simple design to say thank you to my followers, supporters and everyone who has been cheering me on since I undertook this journey.

So very humbled by how everyone has responded to the weird things that go on inside my head.  It's wonderful to have found a place to express them and people that understand.

Mistress Michelle Lacy - Sketching & Painting

Here are the iterations along the way in this painting.

I was asked to paint something like 'Queen Takes Pawn' and decided to really push the perspective to create a more expansive scene and include more characters.

Major changes along the way were to make the background characters male, not female (I love the female form so instinctively make all my characters feminine) and tweaks and refinements to Mistress Lacy herself, because, well, drawing at that angle is kind tricky.

A Little Update

A little update - I'm just finishing off work on my first latex art commission which I'll share with you when it's all done and the client is happy for me to do so.

Nurse P

After my 'chess' piece (which turned out to be very well received) I decided to take on something a little lighter weight and paint one of my most favourite dressing-up outfits based on a delicious nurse's outfit from Westward Bound. Introducing 'Nurse P' who I decided should be featured in a scene administering some kind of 'therapy' to Nikki.

I decided to begin by painting in some of the background details before then switching to concentrate on Nurse P, and then working on Nikki.

I generally tend to work this way because firstly, I'm not a fan of painting backgrounds so by forcing myself to do a bit of work on them early saves me a slump at the end of the painting and secondly it means that while I'm painting the foreground I've got s...

Nurse P - Flats

As I'm taking you through in my process in detail on this work - here's a snapshot of how I've broken down the picture.  Each part of the picture has been separated out into its own colour layers and named (as it's easy to lose track).

Sketching - The Start of my Process

So, in order to catch up from the start of this art project to when I began my Patreon, here are the initial sketches that I made before painting each work.

Not all the sketches are complete - there are a lot of background construction lines and other layers that I used to get to this initial sketch but while building up each painting I tend to discard those or overpaint them to save on file size.

I was tagged in a post featuring a ball hood and that set me pondering how I might do something interesting featuring them.

Heavy Examination

I polled the folks on DeviantArt asking what subject they'd like to see more of - 'Heavy Rubber' was the category that won by an overwhelming margin.
