Puffin in Melbourne

While I was in Melbourn, Australia I got to meet and work with the incredible Puffin.  We spent two days exploring some fairly far away locations that I really fell in love with.

Our first day trip Nicole, Puffin and I made it out to Half Moon Bay where we found some amazing sand stone formations to shoot in.  Despite the fact that it was a very sunny day I loved the location.  We hiked up to the top where the shade gave us the best light to work with, and then slowly worked our...

Nicole Vaunt in The Timbers

We always find a cute and cheap hotel in Denver.  Its just one of those cities that I love to go to, but where I don't really know anybody, or don't know anybody that can host us, but its a great town.  For me its the half way point.  It means that the flat lands of Kansas have finally come to an end.  That instead of staring dismally out the window at the unending inanity of grass and corn that I will now be looking out in wonderment at the Rockies.   I'll be frequently...

Anne Duffy and Meluxine in Sydney

Shoots can come together in the weirdest way.  Anne Duffy and I had been talking about shooting for a month or two, basically as soon as she found I was coming to Australia we started planning.

She took the bus up to Sydney, and Lee Nutter was nice enough to drive me down to the train station to pick her up.  He and his wife also were a huge help in that he suggested this amazing location called Malabar Headland National Park, which, conveniently enough,...

Nicole Vaunt and Amber Rose McConnell at Sequoia National Park

When I first started traveling and focusing on landscapes the Sequoia and Redwood trees where the most frustrating things I would come across photographically.  Putting their enormous size into scale seemed impossible.

Then I started focusing on incorporating nude in the landscape and everything has started to come together.  This trip with Amber and Nicole we stopped for a day in Sequoia National Park, and on our hikes we found a few beautiful spots to shoot.  The trees the...

Samii Ryan and Misty Mason in Malibu

Finding locations to shoot in LA can be really hard.  My favorite spots El Matador and Abalone Cove are typically over run with people, and that doesn't really work for me.  I was super nervous about working with Samii and Misty for the first time and wanted to make sure that everything would go perfectly, so I set out looking for a new location that maybe a lot of people wouldn't be at.

I searched around on google maps and found that Leo Carillo Beach was just north of El Matado...

Paige Michelle for The Jungle

I think that The Jungle sort of fell by the wayside this trip.  I think that is mostly because my favorite lens to shoot the series with died on day 1 and I didn't get it back from Sigma repair services until the day before I flew out to Australia.  That Sigma 85mm F1.4 takes lovely photos, but from what I can tell the AF Motor on it is kind of a piece of shit.  Twice now we've dealt with it failing.

But that isn't really the point of this post!

I met Paige through...

Nicole Vaunt and Ama at Bombo Quarry

Trying to keep up with editing from the past four months or even my shoots in order has been quite the endeavor.  While I was in Sydney Nicole, Ama, Lee Nutter and I road tripped down to an amazing location called Bombo Quarry.

It was a sunny day, so for the first half hour we bounced around shot in some beautifully shaded spots, and then I decided to try a few with Ama in some lingerie she had brought along, and to play around with back lighting using the 85mm F1.4.  I love how ...

Nicole Vaunt, Venom, and Amber Rose McConnell at Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs has been one of my favorite places to explore since my first trip down the California coast just a few years ago.  I'd avoided San Diego for a long time because it was two hours away and I didn't really know anyone down there, but after meeting Venom its been one of my favorite cities to hit up.

Its a sunny city so the secret to shooting there is to get up early, and hide in the shade or fog bank for photos, which is pretty easy to find.  The massive cliffs and cave...

Aniston and Skyhook for Temperance

I guess my backlog of images has gotten a little out of control.  Trying to keep up while on the road can be pretty overwhelming at times.  I'm sitting on the Oregon Coast three months of travel behind me and still a month ahead of me, missing home.  Missing Nicole, and missing shooting for Temperance.

So while I'm channeling that I figured I'd work on a post I have been neglecting for far too long now.  Skyhook and Aniston shot shortly before I built out this camper va...

I don't really know where to start with this one guys.  Two years ago I discovered the photographer Cam Attree, a year ago Nicole made a trip to Australia and they set up a shoot, somehow over the course of there shoot us all doing a workshop in New Zealand came up, winter of last year everything was finalized, and this January we planned everything out.

Fun facts its cheaper to drive across the United States, buy one way tickets from LA to Sydney to Melbourne to Queenstown to Tokyo t...

The makings of something new with Nicole Vaunt and Jaclyn

Every now and then I do something that doesn't really fit into any of the series I'm working on at the time.  Every series starts somewhere, and this one really began with Reed and Nicole back in Columbus.  We did something awesome that wasn't quite The Jungle, and I think my shoot with Jaclyb and Nicole really solidified that we are on to something.

When I'm on the road its impossible to shoot for Temperance, but I love eroticism and story telling in images.  Something we d...

Nicole Vaunt and Floofie at La Perouse National Park!

We made it! Right now I am writing you all from the parking lot of a department store on the west coast of New Zealand. I have learned a lot the past couple of weeks bouncing around Pacifica. Firstly free wifi is not really a thing here, and paid wifi is almost as rare.

Last week I was in Sydney for a little while and I had a couple amazing shoots! I don't know if I have actually said this before but my goal for We Were Wanderers is to shoot on every continent, so now that we have made...

Nicole and Amber in Capitol Reef

Hi from Australia everybody!  It only took my 100 hours of driving, 14 hours of flying, and a 30 minute trip through customs to get here, but I made it!

Of course I'm not one to waste the opportunity of a cross country drive, so along the way I've been trying to create as much as possible.  While I was in Denver Nicole and I picked up our good friend Amber Rose McConnell an incredibly talented model and photographer, and we took her to some of our favorite places.

Lillias Right and Alice X for Temperance

Before I left for this trip in the cold of the winter, and right around when I got really sick I had so many visitors to Philly for Temperance, and it was really amazing.  Our house sometimes feels more like a hostel for traveling creatives than a normal home, and it makes for a great time of trading stories and sometimes unexpected shoots/collaborations.

Lillias and Alice had never met before they were both staying at our place, but over the course of a few days they had excitedly de...

Damsel and Louis for Ask the Dust

Sorry for the delay everybody.  The older I get the slower I drive, the more I take my time to take everything in while I am on the road.  We drove from Phoenix to San Diego last night.  Watched the sun set just outside of Yuma and then drove until late arriving around 11pm, exhausted and ready to crawl into bed.

I used to drive faster, I used to miss a lot of the little things, or places that I try and stop to see now.

I guess I have the sam...

Nicole Vaunt for We Were Wanderers (Indiana and Colorado)

Its been an exciting couple of weeks on the road.  I wasn't really planning on doing much for the first leg of this trip aside from seeing a few friends in the Mid-West and Colorado to catch up, but my friends had other plans!

When we arrived in Indianapolis to see Chunni, she wanted to take us to one of her favorite spots in the state Cataract Falls.  We got there right around sunset, which turned out to be pretty much the perfect time for arrival as there were no leaves on the ...

Vaunt and Reed for The Jungle

We're on the road!!

Our first stop, like almost every first stop since we started traveling, had to be Columbus to catch up with our Ohio friends.  We decided it would be fun to shoot Reed and Vaunt together for The Jungle and play around with all the pieces we'd picked up from Stockroom and Love and Light Bondage.

It was a perfectly cloudy day, my favorite type of light to shoot in, so taking the photos was easy.  I picked up my trusty 5d MK II with my Sigma 85mm F1.4 ...

Tiny Voss for Temperance

It has been a busy couple of months shooting for Temperance.  Since the day I got home from my last trip in July to shoot with Mika Lovely, Brooke Eva, and Jordan Bunnniie to my most recent shoot with Tiny Voss I have been on a nearly none stop shooting spree for the series.  When I look at everything on my hard drive from the last few months I can't help but feel proud at everything I have managed to do.

I'm definitely ready for the break, but I don't feel done.  My last sh...

Lua and Ashley Chantilly for Temperance

Lua and Ashley were my second shoot for Temperance after the little rearrange of the room.  There were still some kinks to work out, mainly trying to figure out why some of my mirrors do a weird fun house thing, and make it impossible to focus at certain angles through them.

I still don't really understand.  I am guessing it has something to do with the thickness of the glass over the reflective surface underneath.  The two largest mirrors that I use I actually ripped out of...

Nova Amour for Temperance

I don't always know where I am going!  I think Temperance as a series is the best example of this.  From shoots to shoot I vacillate on what the point of the series is.  Am I trying to explore erotica, pin up, figure studies, light, reflections?  I don't really know.  I guess I am trying to do all of the above.  If I was just trying to do one I'd get bored.  Even within series that are fairly well defined I think its important that I try a lot of things to see ...

Its getting cold out again.  That means its time to turn on the fire place, bundle up, and try our best to stay warm.  It also means playing around shooting in front of the fire!

I don't really have a blank wall in the home studio anymore.  We've set up book cases, made places for guests to relax, and in doing so lost anything that a normal studio space would have.  I've never been a fan of seamless paper anyway, so our living room is sort of the space for playing aroun...
