10 Days ago Nicole and I flew from Seattle to the east coast where we visited family for a few days. Then we got on a plane to Panama City. From Panama City we caught a plane to Santiago where we rented a car and drove for 13 hours. From there we caught a Ferry to Torres Del Paine our final destination, and more traveling than I ever imagined for photos.
Today we finally had our first day in the park, and the next 10 days we are going to have our asses handed to us by th...

Finding a location for nature in LA can be hard. I've found if I just plug "canyon" into google maps though I can usually find some place where I can escape the California sun.
My shoot with Kelly we drove to a place I very much don't remember. I was somewhere near the valley. It was an intensely hot day, and we hiked along a cliffs edge overlooking the city. I love the challenge of shooting in a new place. The challenge of creating somewhere a lot of ...

Editing a series you are no longer shooting is weird. It has already been four months since we took the wall paper down, three since I packed up the van and left for Seattle, and two since we found a new place to call home.
It doesn't entirely feel like home yet, but the people do.
I'm sitting in DC right now. Three hours from Philly where I spent a decade trying to figure out what I want to say with a camera and how to say it. Each set I finish from Temperance moves me...

The cold rain fell around us in the forest. We'd driven in the night deep into Gifford Pinchot and slept in the van at the trail head, woke up early to shoot and tried to find the dryest spot under the canopy we could.
Overcoming the obstacles nature throws at you when shooting is one of the biggest challenges anywhere. You can set a date, get to the right spot, but none of that matters if the temperature plumets and the skies let loose.
Still, even with all that cold...

We made our way out to the Olympic Peninsula for Christmas. I haven't had as much time to bounce around in the amazing nature of the North West since we moved as I would like, but we are starting to finally settle down in our new home, and have had the time to plan a few trips. I forget durring summer, spring, and fall that when winter comes the days will be so much shorter, and therefore the amount of time I have to create will be so much less as well. It makes getting motivat...

Without a doubt my hardest shoot this year was Nicole and I's shoot in South Korea for We Were Wanderers. I've done a lot of traveling across the United States, and a little bit of international travel, but none of it really prepared me for what being in South Korea was going to be like.
A lot of the things I rely on when traveling didn't really work in South Korea, which I haven't really encountered before traveling through out most of the world google maps has pretty much become my bes...

One of the beautiful things about photographing people is that, as an artist, it is impossible to create in a vaccum. I will never really be able to see my work as just my work free from the opinion of others. Every person that steps in front of my camera brings with them their own interpretation and ideas about my work. Its a give and take I talk about a lot. No photographer that works with models it out there doing it all on their own, myself included.
This cons...

We're entering the final months of work for Temperance. This winter I'll be finishing the last few sets, and then starting in January I will be working on the book with an amazing graphic designer I collaborated with all the way back when Nicole and I were doing Uncropped Magazine.
Making physical things from this work that exists predominately in the digital world is a lot of fun. There is so much I can't control about how you all experience each photo delivered over the internet....

The forest has always been my second home. I like the quiet, the moments away from everybody.
When I was 12 I was almost kicked out of the scouts for leaving the cabin and hiking as far as I could through the trees in the soaking rain. It hadn't really occured to me that the forest would end, and I would find myself in a suburban development hiking through families back yards. The forest always ends, and when it does people are there.
I don't think I'm a misanthr...

In the bay area towards the end of Summer I had the opportunity to drive down the coast and work with the incredible Astraia Espirit for Ask the Dust. She and her partner talked to me about their most intimate moments, and how they feel the closest in the bath, so we spent the afternoon shooting in the soft window light.
It was lovely. I love to capture these small moments laughter, a hand on the back, &n...

I could live in this forest forever. Gifford Pinchot is one of the most inspiring place I have been able to find and photograph in the United States. The beautiful roaring waters of Panther Creek Falls, and intensely green scenery make for amazing photos.
After following Vincent on IG for a while, and seeing her amazing talent as a model I knew I wanted to work with her and go somewhere aw...

I'm sick in bed, and can't really get anything done today, so I wanted to share a little something with all of you from my first test for what could be my new series.
We've been slowly putting pieces for a set together, which I am sure over the next few years we will add and take away from. What I love about this new place is the size of the shoot lanes I can create, but I'm also not used to all the space, so there will be a little bit of a learning curve for me to play with there.
The othe...

Quick shoots are sometimes my favorite. I'd had a rough and pretty busy week, but I found out Sierra was in town, and when somebody I love working with is around, I always am down to shoot something. We decided to do one look and just try and perfect a couple of images in the Temperance room, and then figured why not shoot in front of the fireplace as well.
Sierra is really amazing in front of the camera, and so even in a brief shoot we created a few images I really really loved fo...

Getting back on track after moving across the country has been an endeavor. I breathed a sigh of relief when all of my things arrived safely, booted up my drives, and they hummed and connected without a problem. Transporting 20 TB worth of date is a bit of a nightmare, but we're all here.
The trip I decided Seattle was where I wanted to live is the same trip that I photographed my good friends Henry an...

So this month marks two years for me on Patreon. I can't believe how much time has gone by, and how much you all have helped me accomplish. From Iceland to Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, and back to Iceland every time I look back at the trail behind me in just these two years I'm completely blown away.I've been trying to figure out what my next goal is for a little while. I was reluctant to create one until I had definitively figured everything out for Chile, but...

I'm sitting in Seattle listening to the rain outside of our new place, editing the final days of Temperance, imagining how I can bring it all together, and what I do next. The past month has been a whirlwind, not a super productive one in making art, but we have a new place, and basically that means a blank canvas to work with.
I always let the place influence my work, and I'm excited about the opportunities and ideas I have for this little craftsman we are renting. T...

What better way to celebrate our new home town than to jump back to the recent trip where I finally decided it was time to take the plunge and move to the North West.
I found T Liliy Taylor on Instagram, and I was super excited when she wanted to shoot with me while I was in Seattle. We woke up well before sunrise, and went out to one of my favorite places to hike/shoot in Washington, Rattlesnake Lake. The Weather in the North West pretty makes for perfect light all the time, s...

Despite it only being two hours from Philly, New York City has been one of the hardest places for me to get to and work in for as long as I have been taking photos. I think its the difficulty in finding a place to shoot, and when I'm home the last thing I want to do is take a four hours trip north to an even busier/bigger bustling metropolis. I like to sit at my computer and get work done, rather than adding to the pile.
This means I actually rarely work with some incredibly...

On my way to Seattle I made a bit of a detour. One of my long term internet friends, Anastasia, and I had planned to shoot on a trip down south that ended up falling through, and I didn't want to leave the east coast before we got to meet and take photos together. So, after two years of following her self portraiture on her tumblr I made the drive to Appalachia, so that we could finally make it happen, and it was amazing.
I grew up hiking the Appalachian Mountains quite...

One of the downsides about being on the road a ton is that I often miss my brethren road warriors when they come through Philadelphia. Jacs Fishburne is one of those insanely talented people that I've only managed to shoot with twice. Her presence in front of the camera is truly amazing. Her presence in general is always amazing.
What I loved about doing Temperance is how much it let me experiment with all different forms of photography from erotica, and pin up to port...

Hey! Honestly, I'm still digesting Iceland, while simultaneously trying to mentally prep for our move to the PNW. Its been an incredibly busy summer. I just finished up my last shoot ever for Temperance. Temperance is back. After 4 months on the road I have been shooting for this series in what feels like a wave of inspiration that has built over my time away. I can't honestly keep track of all of the shoots I have done for this series since I have gotten back. When I came up with the idea years ago for Ask the Dust I wasn't sure if anyone would be willing to be the subject for my series. We live in a society that still very much demonizes sexuality especially those that exercise any sort of pride, or express joy from it. Sometimes creating the photos that I do means waiting for the perfect moment, taking 5 or 6 quick photos and then leaving. I never want to force an interaction with people that do not want to see my work in its final form or during its creation, so there is often a lot of sitting and waiting for a moment to create.
I've been thinking about how to share these photos since they aren't really the same as a full shoot, and its sort of hard to fill an entire blog post with the creation of a s...
