Shameless self-promotion: CBS is running a promotion where you can get SportsLine's gambling info for $1 for the first month. Sign up here and use promo code AXISA (all caps). I don't gamble but I know the guy who does SportsLine's NFL content and he seems to nail everything. If you sign up, cool. If not, that's cool too. No hard feelings, even though there's a prize for having the most used promo code. Anyway, enough Co...

Was that a fun weekend in Los Angeles or what? That was no ordinary series. That was a postseason atmosphere and I'm glad the Yankees won two of three, and very nearly won all three games. Pretty great. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as John Goodman rocks a Low-A Charleston RiverDogs hat.
1. Players Weekend jerseys. Wow were the white Players Weekend uniforms terrible. ...

Everyone ready for the World Series preview in Los Angeles this weekend? It's Players Weekend too. Gonna be a lot of fun (I hope). Here are today's thoughts as the annual nightmare West Coast trip moves to Tinseltown.
1. RISP woes. It took four months, but the Yankees are finally having what is really their first bad week with runners in scoring position this season. It was bound to happen. That it didn't happen until mid-August is wild. Since the start of the Indians s...

The Yankees won their 82nd game last Friday, clinching their 27th consecutive winning season. That is the second longest such streak in history behind the 1926-64 Yankees (39 years). If this current streak goes on to match that streak, Gleyber Torres will be 34 years old when it happens. Crazy. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as banging stuff in the dugout suddenly becomes an ejectable offense.
1. Gardner's ejection. For real though, since when do players get ejected ...

We are firmly in the dog days of summer now. The series are kinda starting to blend together, especially because the Yankees have a big AL East lead and we don't have to sweat every single game. Just counting down the days until rosters expand, the Yankees clinch, and the postseason begins. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as 2013 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year Mike Ford takes the mound at Yankee Stadium.
1. Rehab timetables. The Yankees are finally providing positive ...

I ran into some laptop trouble over the weekend (trouble as in it no longer boots up), so I've been getting by on my old backup computer. Brings back memories of the old RAB days when this was my primary laptop. It's also driving me up the wall because it's slow and clunky. Forgive me for today's post being a little shorter than usual. The new laptop is coming soon. Here are today's thoughts as Gleyber Torres hits another homer against the Orioles.

For the 12th time in franchise history (and only the second time in the last 58 years), the Yankees have won 76 of their first 115 games. They are on a rampage right now. What a fun season this has been. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as we all race to the bat rack to get some swings in against the Orioles.
1. Orioles dominance. The Yankees' dominance of the Orioles this season is absolutely comical. They are 12-2 against the O's and have outscored them 104-60. They'...

The dog days of summer have arrived. The Yankees have 50 games remaining this year -- is it really only 50? -- and FanGraphs puts their AL East odds at 98.0%. More importantly, their World Series odds are 12.8%. Only the Astros (27.5%) and Dodgers (17.8%) are higher. I'll take it. Here are today's thoughts as Bob Costas complains about people complaining he complains about baseball too much.

I've tried to embrace #ZenBaseball in recent years and I'm mostly over the trade deadline inactivity. (More like trade dudline amirite?) I have no control over it so I'm not going to let me bother me anymore. Hopefully it all works out in the end. Here are today's thoughts as we get into the dog days of summer.
1. Post-deadline trades. So it turns out teams can still make trades after July 31st. Who knew?

I'm going to start with a positive: Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told Chris Smith he didn't make any additional moves at the trade deadline because the Yankees have buried them in the AL East. "If we were closer to first place, I would have been more open-minded," he said. Music to my ears. Anyway, here are my post-trade deadline thoughts as I wonder when the Yankees ...

Goodness, what a week. It is a minor miracle the Yankees went 3-4 on that road trip despite historically awful starting pitching. Let's pretend this past week never happened and enjoy the rest of the season, okay? Sounds good to me. Anyway, the trade deadline is Wednesday, so I figured I'd run Tuesday's post a day early in case a trade goes down and I'm inclined to post immediate reaction, and also ...

A few people have asked for an update, so I'm going to take a second to say I am doing well following my annoyingly complicated appendectomy. I was told the incision and everything else is healing well during my follow-up appointment earlier this week. Getting closer to 100% with each passing day. Thanks for your concern and thanks as always for the support. Now here are today's thoughts as I wonder who I have to petition for Ryan Ruocco to become the YES Network's full-time play-by-play guy....

A triple play, a million other runners stranded, five homers allowed, and the Yankees still only barely lost to one of the best teams in baseball last night. Frustrating, for sure, but at no point did the Yankees feel out of that game. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as I wonder how long the Yankees will play shorthanded rather than put Brett Gardner on the injured list.

Good series? Good series. The Yankees rebounded from their worst loss of the season Monday night with three straight wins over the Rays to open up a ten-game lead in the loss column in the AL East. They knocked Tampa out of the postseason picture too. The Indians and Athletics are currently in Wild Card position. Anyway, here are today's thoughts on the Savages in the Bronx.

Travis d'Arnaud? Seriously? The guy has been looking to hit everything the other way since the last series in Tampa, but sure, keep feeding him fastballs and breaking balls on the outer half. Sometimes I wonder how a team so smart can be so stupid. Anyway, here are today's thoughts as I wonder which three regulars will get tonight's game off.
1. Bigger than the division. This is probably something I should've written a few weeks ago. For the Yankees, the goal right now ...

The All-Star break is over and the second half of the 2019 regular season begins tonight. The Yankees will play 74 games in the next 80 days and they begin the second half with an eight-game lead in the loss column in the AL East. Pretty good. Pretty, pretty good. Here are today's thoughts as I wonder what I have to do to be graded on the Austin Romine curve.

Missing more time than expected after going down with a fairly routine medical issue qualifies me as a true 2019 Yankee, right? Things are (mostly) back to normal following my complicated appendectomy, fortunately. The Yankees are 57-31 (.648) with an eight-game lead in the loss column in the AL East. Pretty great. We've got a lot of catching up to do, so here are today's thoughts as I wonder why Chad Green can't throw a ...

The 2019 Yankees are starting to feel special. I don't just expect them to go out and win every game, I expect them to go out and whoop ass every game. They are very good and very fun. Flawed? For sure, but every team is flawed and the Yankees are less flawed than most. I'm really looking forward to watching the Yankees put a hurtin' on the Red Sox in London this weekend. Gonna be fun. Here are today's thoughts as I try to figure out how DJ LeMahieu didn't hit like .600 in Coors Field.

The season is 78 games old and the Yankees have received a combined 325 plate appearances and +1.8 WAR from Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton. Those four were worth +18.4 WAR last season. Somehow the Yankees are still five games up in the AL East. Pretty great. Can't wait for everyone to get locked in. Here are today's thoughts.

Folks, I am officially declaring the 2019 Yankees: Fun as hell. This team is crazy fun. The offense is going to annihilate mediocre pitching and grind down good pitching, and the pitching staff has turned things around following that recent rough patch. A season best 4.5-game lead in the AL East has a way of making a man get excited about things. Here are today's thoughts.
1. Judge's return. The Yankees have scored 49 runs and hit 13 home runs in their last six games, a...

The Yankees and Mets were rained out last night and the Yankees handled it about as poorly as possible. The rain was in the forecast for days, yet they opened the gates on time and strung fans along until announcing the postponement at 6:45pm ET. Plus the makeup game will be played as part of a doubleheader today, when many fans who had tickets to last night's game won't be able to make it. Awful. The Yankees keep losing players to injury and they keeping winning series too. They are 10-1 in their last 11 series -- the only loss was the two-game sweep in Arizona -- and they are all alone in first place in the AL East. A win tonight combined with a Twins loss would give the Yankees the best record in baseball. Pretty incredible. Pretty fun too. Here is the latest thoughts post.
